Download or read book Mathematical and Numerical Aspects of Wave Propagation WAVES 2003 written by Gary Cohen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-06-17 with total page 896 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings include articles of the Sixth International Conference on Mathematical and Numerical Aspects of Wave Propagation (WAVES 2003), held in Jyviiskylii, Finland, from June 30 to July 4, 2003. As in the previous five conferences in this series, its program covered a broad range of topics related to the mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of wave phenomena. Topics of specific interest included various areas of acoustics, electromagnetics, elasticity, and related optimization and inverse problems. In addition to the nine invited presentations, we selected for this confer ence 152 high-level papers from over 20 countries, especially from Europe. Most of them are contained in this book. They provide an extensive overview on the recent developments in the theoretical and applied wave propagation. The conference was organized by the University of Jyviiskylii and the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) in cooperation with Jyviiskylii Congresses. The editors would like to thank the organizing institutions and the in ternational scientific committee for their efforts in the preparation of this conference. We are also grateful to all the authors of the papers for their contributions to these proceedings. Special acknowledgment is due to Ms. Dominique Potherat, to Ms. Helene Chanut and to Ms. Marja-Leena Ranta lainen for their valuable assistance in the preparation of this proceedings volume. Book Synopsis Wave Propagation and Time Reversal in Randomly Layered Media by : Jean-Pierre Fouque
Download or read book Wave Propagation and Time Reversal in Randomly Layered Media written by Jean-Pierre Fouque and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-06-30 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The content of this book is multidisciplinary by nature. It uses mathematical tools from the theories of probability and stochastic processes, partial differential equations, and asymptotic analysis, combined with the physics of wave propagation and modeling of time reversal experiments. It is addressed to a wide audience of graduate students and researchers interested in the intriguing phenomena related to waves propagating in random media. At the end of each chapter there is a section of notes where the authors give references and additional comments on the various results presented in the chapter.

Book Synopsis Wave Scattering from Statistically Rough Surfaces by : F. G. Bass
Download or read book Wave Scattering from Statistically Rough Surfaces written by F. G. Bass and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave Scattering from Statistically Rough Surfaces discusses the complications in radio physics and hydro-acoustics in relation to wave transmission under settings seen in nature. Some of the topics that are covered include radar and sonar, the effect of variations in topographic relief or ocean waves on the transmission of radio and sound waves, the reproduction of radio waves from the lower layers of the ionosphere, and the oscillations of signals within the earth-ionosphere waveguide. The book begins with some fundamental idea of wave transmission theory and the theory of random processes as used to rough surfaces and to wave fields. This discussion is followed by an analysis of the average fields of sound and electromagnetic waves. A section on spatial correlation characteristics in the approximation of small perturbations is then given. Another chapter of the text explains the Kirchhoff method. The book will provide useful information to physicists, mechanical engineer, students, and researchers in the field of acoustics.

Book Synopsis Quantum Chaos Y2K by : Karl-Fredrik Berggren
Download or read book Quantum Chaos Y2K written by Karl-Fredrik Berggren and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum chaos is becoming a very wide field that ranges from experiments to theoretical physics and purely mathematical issues. In view of this grand span, Nobel Symposium 116 focused on experiments and theory, and attempted to encourage interplay between them. There was emphasis on the interdisciplinary character of the subject, involving a broad range of subjects in physics, including condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, atomic physics and elementary particle physics. The physics involved in quantum chaos has much in common with acoustics, microwaves, optics, etc., and therefore the symposium also covered aspects of wave chaos in this broader sense. The program was structured according to the following areas: manifestations of classical chaos in quantum systems; transport phenomena; quantal spectra in terms of periodic orbits; semiclassical and random matrix approaches; quantum chaos in interacting systems; chaos and tunneling; wave-dynamic chaos. This important book constitutes the proceedings of the symposium.
