Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on water management in industry ia a modest effort to bring awareness of this vital subject to engineers and technicians working in various industries for the conservation of this scarce resource essentially required for the economic development of the country and for improving the quality of life of people in general. Conservation of water and prevention of pollution of natural sources of water should be a concern for all, especially in the arid climate of India with limited water resources and ever-increasing water demand in all sectors of its use. A viable scheme for the collection and treatment of rainwater falling on the vast area of plant premises has been included in the book to augment the available water resources of the plant, an area which has so far been neglected by planners and designers. Further, the book describes comprehensive techniques for the implementation of zero-discharge of effluents from the plant premises by reclaiming usable water using appropriate technology for reuse in the plant operation as well as for prevention of pollution of natural sources of water. Data and information included in the book would provide ready aid to the engineers and technicians working in water management of the industry in general. The book written in lucid language is comprehendible to the lay population as well.

Book Synopsis Selective Salt Elimination and Valorisation for Sustainable Water and Facility Management in the Steel Industry (SELSA) by :
Download or read book Selective Salt Elimination and Valorisation for Sustainable Water and Facility Management in the Steel Industry (SELSA) written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the project was to develop sustainable concepts for water and facility management in the steel industry on basis of selective salt elimination and valorisation. The objectives involved reduction of fresh water consumption, decrease of salt output into the environment, prolongation of pipe service life and ensuring of high product quality. Management concepts for process water circuits with detected corrosion or scaling damages and waters with high salt concentrations were developed on basis of operational tests. Reuse of the blow-down water with reverse osmosis in blast furnace gas scrubbing circuit can reduce fresh water consumption by 76% and prolong pipe service life. Pre-treatment of the make-up water with reverse osmosis in hot rolling mill cooling circuit results in 66% reduction of fresh water consumption and eliminates the risk of hot strip corrosion during storage. In pickling lines, descaling with high pressure water jet and acid regeneration with ion exchange can reduce acid consumption considerably. Fresh water consumption for rinsing in sulphuric acid pickling lines can be reduced by 90% using microfiltration, magnetic scale separation and reverse osmosis. The developed management concepts are technically and economically feasible. The application of salt elimination techniques results in increased CO2 impact. For the valorisation of the concentrate several concepts were considered but none of them was viable. The developed management concepts are transferable to the existing and new plants. To facilitate their implementation a decision guidance matrix and step by step guidelines were developed.
