Download or read book Water Logic written by Laurie J. Marks and published by Small Beer Press. This book was released on 2007-06-01 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Elemental Logic series continues with its third novel in the series, Water Logic, where the patterns of history are made and unmade. Laurie Marks’ Elemental Logic series introduced readers in Fire Logic to the realm of Shaftal, an intricately imagined land whose people operate within the boundaries of their basic natures—here defined as logics—which sometimes bequeath them with access to magical, elemental powers and sometimes embroil them in unsolvable internal conflicts. Readers will discover inside Water Logic that amid assassinations, rebellions, and the pyres of too many dead, a new government has formed in Shaftal—a government of soldiers and farmers, scholars and elemental talents, all weary of war and longing for peace. But some cannot forget their losses, and some cannot imagine a place for themselves in an enemy land. Before memory, before recorded history, something happened that now must be remembered. Zanja na’Tarwein, the crosser of boundaries, born in fire and wedded to earth, has fallen under the ice. Now, by water logic, the logic of patterns repeated, of laughter and music, the lost must be found—or the found may forever be lost.

Book Synopsis I Am Right, You Are Wrong by : Edward de Bono
Download or read book I Am Right, You Are Wrong written by Edward de Bono and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2017-09-07 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I Am Right, You Are Wrong is THE classic work about choice in business and in life from world-renowned writer and philosopher Edward de Bono. Most of our everyday decision-making tends to be confrontational. Whether in large meetings, one-to-one or even in our own heads, opposite view points are pitted against each other. Ultimately, there must be a winner and a loser. In I Am Right,You Are Wrong, lateral-thinking guru Edward de Bono challenges this 'rock logic' of rigid categories and point-scoring arguments which is both destructive and exhausting. Instead he reveals how we can all be winners. Clearer perception is the key to constructive thinking and more open-minded creativity. In overturning conventional wisdom, Edward de Bono will help you to become a better thinker and decision maker. 'An inspiring man with brilliant ideas. De Bono never ceases to amaze with his clarity of thought' Sir Richard Branson

Download or read book Think! written by Edward de Bono and published by Random House. This book was released on 2009-07-28 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is full of problems and conflicts. So why can we not solve them? According to Edward de Bono, world thinking cannot solve world problems because world thinking is itself the problem. And this is getting worse: we are so accustomed to readily available information online that we search immediately for the answers rather than thinking about them. Our minds function like trying to drive a car using only one wheel. There's nothing wrong with that one wheel - conventional thinking - but we could all get a lot further if we used all four... De Bono examines why we think the way we do from a historical perspective and uses some of his famous thinking techniques, such as lateral thinking, combined with new ideas to show us how to change the way we think. If we strengthen our ability and raise our thinking level, other areas of our life - both personal and business success - will improve. De Bono is the master of the original big 'concept' book and his enticement to us to use our minds as constructively as possible should appeal to a whole new generation of fans.

Book Synopsis Where the River Ends by : Shaylih Muehlmann
Download or read book Where the River Ends written by Shaylih Muehlmann and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2013-05-23 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living in the northwest of Mexico, the Cucapá people have relied on fishing as a means of subsistence for generations, but in the last several decades, that practice has been curtailed by water scarcity and government restrictions. The Colorado River once met the Gulf of California near the village where Shaylih Muehlmann conducted ethnographic research, but now, as a result of a treaty, 90 percent of the water from the Colorado is diverted before it reaches Mexico. The remaining water is increasingly directed to the manufacturing industry in Tijuana and Mexicali. Since 1993, the Mexican government has denied the Cucapá people fishing rights on environmental grounds. While the Cucapá have continued to fish in the Gulf of California, federal inspectors and the Mexican military are pressuring them to stop. The government maintains that the Cucapá are not sufficiently "indigenous" to warrant preferred fishing rights. Like many indigenous people in Mexico, most Cucapá people no longer speak their indigenous language; they are highly integrated into nonindigenous social networks. Where the River Ends is a moving look at how the Cucapá people have experienced and responded to the diversion of the Colorado River and the Mexican state's attempts to regulate the environmental crisis that followed.

Book Synopsis The Journey to Enterprise Agility by : Daryl Kulak
Download or read book The Journey to Enterprise Agility written by Daryl Kulak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-05 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to seriously address the disconnection between nimble Agile teams and other groups in the enterprise, including enterprise architecture, the program management office (PMO), human resources, and even business executives. When an enterprise experiments with practice improvements, software development teams often jump on board with excitement, while other groups are left to wonder how they will fit in. We address how these groups can adapt to Agile teams. More importantly, we show how many Agile teams cause their own problems, damaging scalability and sustainability, by requiring special treatment, and by failing to bridge the gaps between themselves and other groups. We call this phenomenon “Agile illth.” Adopting a set of “best practices” is not enough. All of us, Agile teams and the corporate groups, must change our intentions and worldviews to be more compatible with the success of the enterprise. Join us on the journey to enterprise agility. It is a crooked path, fraught with danger, confusion and complexity. It is the only way to reach the pinnacles we hope to experience in the form of better business value delivered faster for less cost.
