Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I've written this book to help you – the soldier – kill the enemy when you get the chance and, most importantly, come back home in one piece. To achieve this aim I've covered combat training from boot camp up to the level required of a Special Forces soldier. And then gone on to add a few tricks of my own. I've done a bit of soldiering (Northern Ireland, SAS deployments, Bush Wars in Africa, life as a merc) and been in my fair share of fire-fights. I've only been wounded twice and learnt from both occasions. I'm going to use my experience to teach you to play the game. I'm not going to teach you how to survive in snowy mountains for a month with only one tea-bag or how to kill a room full of people with only a toothpick. There are plenty of books that do that already. This book will teach you how to fight and survive war in the 21st century from the tools of the trade, to avoiding getting shot or blown-up, from surviving an interrogation to defending a position This is a book not for the faint hearted. But then neither is war.

Malinda finds solace with the handsome family doctor, whom she discovers is the only person she can trust, however guarded. The secrets in this deceptive hall of mirrors run deeper and darker than she imagined. Now, while seeking the truth in a mansion haunted by lies, twisted memories, and ruined lives, she must also fight for her sanity—and her life. Book excerpt: The question of how we communicate is at the heart of On Dialogue. This revised and expanded edition is the most comprehensive documentation to date of best-selling author David Bohm's dialogical world view. Whilst the exercise of dialogue is as old as civilization itself, in recent times a profusion of practices, techniques and definitions has arisen around the term 'dialogue'. None of these approaches can claim to be the correct view, but it is possible to distinguish between them and to clarify the intention of each. To this end, the current edition of On Dialogueilluminates the underlying meaning, purpose and uniqueness of David Bohm's work in this field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An eleven-year-old Navajo boy is taken by force from his Arizona reservation home and bussed to Fort Sill Indian School near Lawton and Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in 1949. The U.S. law requires the Navajo children to attend school in a federally operated boarding school. The boy is treated roughly at his capture and on the bus trip. He vows to escape from the school and walk/run back the eight hundred miles back to his home, realizing he has no money and does not trust the white man. He is forced to rely on his survival skills. He makes several friends at the school. However, in the spring, he leaves at night and starts his journey home. The challenges he faces at the school and also his journey and how he overcomes those challenges are detailed. When he finally reaches his home area, he hears crying from several people and creeps through the sagebrush to see what is happening. The same government agents who seized him are trying to wrestle an eight-year-old girl from her mother and grandmother and put her on the bus. But while that happens, the boy slips unnoticed on to the bus and invites all the children to follow him, and he will hide and protect them until the agents have gone and stopped looking for them. Twenty-one of the children come with him, and he hikes for two days, covering his trails, until he reaches an old unknown cliff dwelling that he and his family had stayed at many times. It is well hidden. For close to a year, the children survive in the cliff dwelling, learning Indian skills from the boy and school skills from a twelve-year-old girl. Meanwhile, a large political battle takes place for many months, and finally, the law is changed so the Navajo children can stay on the reservation to learn the white mans ways and education. When all the papers have been signed by the Congress and the president, the childrens group is able to return home. A large dinner is planned by the tribal council for their return. At this dinner, the boy, Jeff White Cloud, has his name formally changed by the tribal leaders to Nasha Bi Hoga, He Who Walks Alone.

Book excerpt: One of the rules of being a police officer is to not allow your emotions to overpower your common sense and moral character. The growing drug problem in Covington was eating at me; I wanted to know more about Ace and the person I had never met called Slim, I knew they were not from Covington or the local area. I had been lucky enough to work the two cases inside the city limits of Covington that brought the drug-dealing mess to my attention, and it was driving me crazy, because no one was doing anything about it, so I decided I would.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harmony Wilde is a unique kind of superhero. She operates as Eclipse in a small town in Ohio instead of the big city, on her own instead of on a team, and in near-complete anonymity. For the most part, she’s satisfied with using her ability—manipulating light—to bust drug dealers and prevent drunk drivers…until Conn Parsons comes to town. Conn has been a superhero all over the world. Dissatisfied with the little bit of good she can do in comparison, Harmony asks Conn to train her. He refuses, feeling responsible for superhero and civilian deaths in big-city incidents. He doesn’t want to risk the same thing happening here. But the attraction between them is hard to fight, and so is her determination. Then small-town problems get bigger, and it looks like both Eclipse and Conn are being targeted by CASE, the Citizens Against Superhero Existence, who are responsible for those city disasters. When her town seems destined to become collateral damage and the stakes get personal, Harmony must tap undeveloped powers and convince Conn to work with her to stop their mutual enemy. The only problem is that when they succeed, it may give Conn the redemption he needs to move on, away from Pilton…and away from Harmony.

Book excerpt: This is a story for the "Baby Boom" generation and for their progeny as well. This is a tale for anyone who has wistfully dreamed of personal fulfillment. For those who contemplate the shedding of the shackles of conformity, of repetitive task completion, of living to satisfy the expectations of others, Michael Campbell is a man well worth meeting. Michael defi nes his own, "Castle in Spain", his statement of individual dream fulfillment and he works tirelessly to achieve it. Michael's singular focus becomes a beacon to others. Some raft together with him to his immense benefit while others become steadfast in their attempts to sink him. Capistrano, a club for gentlemen in the heart of Metro Manila, rises to become the premier night spot in a city famous for its ability to gratify the nocturnal, nefarious desires of those who enjoy the embrace of business success. And those, as well, in sequined splendor, whose agenda it is to satisfy those needs, to achieve their own goals. Capistrano is, in microcosm, South East Asia in the late 1980's. At once a bastion of sensual overload, it houses the unholy alliance of those with means and those who trade in their desires. Capistrano will make you laugh out loud, it will make you cry, and, in the process make you think about your own present and what possibilities lie untapped within.
