This book was released on 1999-12-01 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper surveys the types of models producing multiple equilibria in financial markets. It argues that such models are consistent with observed phenomena, such as the greater volatility of financial asset prices than of macroeconomic fundamentals. Alternative explanations are compared with the stylized facts concerning capital flows, portfolio shifts, and exchange rate crises. Implications for crisis prediction and prevention are then discussed.
Book Synopsis Lectures In International Finance: Crisis, Coordination, Currency Unions, And Debt by : Paul R Masson
Download or read book Lectures In International Finance: Crisis, Coordination, Currency Unions, And Debt written by Paul R Masson and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2007-03-12 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a good basis for a graduate course in international finance. It also serves as a reference source for professional economists. Though other good surveys and handbooks are available, they are too extensive to serve as a graduate textbook. In many cases they are outdated, as there has been an explosion of work on the issues over the last decade, stimulated by events such as the Asian crises of 1997 and 1998, the creation of the Euro zone in 1999, and Argentina's 2001 default. This book covers up-to-date developments on these issues.

Book Synopsis The Political Economy of Financial Crises by : Roy E. Allen
Download or read book The Political Economy of Financial Crises written by Roy E. Allen and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important and timely two-volume collection presents the key issues and processes that surround recent large-scale financial crises - in Asia, Latin America, and elsewhere - and identifies procedures that will help to avoid and manage crises. The articles are drawn from leading journals in political economy, international relations, political science and economics. The reconstruction of the international financial architecture is identified as a working compromise which brings together neo-Keynesian and neo-liberal principles but which, in itself, cannot fully answer the challenges of systemic risk. Globalization processes contribute to systemic risk and complicate the efforts of the IMF and other international financial institutions to create order and stability. The Political Economy of Financial Crises will be invaluable to a broad interdisciplinary audience as a reference source to support teaching and research.

Book Synopsis The Determinants of Cross-border Equity Flows by : Richard Portes
Download or read book The Determinants of Cross-border Equity Flows written by Richard Portes and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We apply a new approach to a new panel data set on bilateral gross cross-border equity flows between 14 countries, 1989-96. The model integrates elements of the finance literature on portfolio composition and the international macroeconomics and asset trade literature. Gross asset flows depend on market size in both source and destination country as well as trading costs, in which both information and the transaction technology play a role. Distance proxies some information costs, and other variables explicitly represent information transmission, an information asymmetry between domestic and foreign investors, and the efficiency of transactions. The remarkably good results have strong implications for theories of asset trade. We find that the geography of information is the main determinant of the pattern of international transactions, while there is little support in our data for diversification and return-chasing motives for transactions."--Authors.
