Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the year 2042, Captain Stan Rhodes returns to planet Mars with a fresh crew and resumes exploring a region called the Cydonia Complex. Investigating architectural wonders from an ancient civilization, they revisit a magnificent five-sided pyramid discovered on the first mission and survey its subterranean passageways. When searching for the ruins of a city called Gaugamar forever buried in the sand, the team is asked by mission planners to penetrate the outer shell of another monument. This leads to them breaching a burial shrine from an older kingdom built for a monarch named Nemnasu. Within the funerary chamber of this monument, they encounter an extraordinary life force, and a text explains how this entity, comprised of a mass of energy, came to be interned in the tomb. The mission is further threatened when one of the team contracts an ancient disease. Coping with horrifically monstrous changes in this individual's physiology causes this crewmember to become mentally deranged, and in this altered state, this person is soon no longer recognized as human, but is seen as something entirely different. Come and join this crew of five as they make new discoveries while struggling to survive on the red planet. This book is the second in a series by David Gatesbury and is preceded by Walking on Mars: A Journey to the Red Planet. Click here to check out the first book in this series!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Award-winning journalist Stephen Petranek says humans will live on Mars by 2027. Now he makes the case that living on Mars is not just plausible, but inevitable. It sounds like science fiction, but Stephen Petranek considers it fact: Within twenty years, humans will live on Mars. We’ll need to. In this sweeping, provocative book that mixes business, science, and human reporting, Petranek makes the case that living on Mars is an essential back-up plan for humanity and explains in fascinating detail just how it will happen. The race is on. Private companies, driven by iconoclastic entrepreneurs, such as Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Paul Allen, and Sir Richard Branson; Dutch reality show and space mission Mars One; NASA; and the Chinese government are among the many groups competing to plant the first stake on Mars and open the door for human habitation. Why go to Mars? Life on Mars has potential life-saving possibilities for everyone on earth. Depleting water supplies, overwhelming climate change, and a host of other disasters—from terrorist attacks to meteor strikes—all loom large. We must become a space-faring species to survive. We have the technology not only to get humans to Mars, but to convert Mars into another habitable planet. It will likely take 300 years to “terraform” Mars, as the jargon goes, but we can turn it into a veritable second Garden of Eden. And we can live there, in specially designed habitations, within the next twenty years. In this exciting chronicle, Petranek introduces the circus of lively characters all engaged in a dramatic effort to be the first to settle the Red Planet. How We’ll Live on Mars brings firsthand reporting, interviews with key participants, and extensive research to bear on the question of how we can expect to see life on Mars within the next twenty years.

Soul-searching while being deeply troubled, like many looking to start a new life and pursuing a dream, he joined a cattle drive and journeyed westward. In his travels, he became a drover and, later, joined a wagon train moving west. In Colorado, on the open range, he discovered farmers who’d acquired land through the Homestead Act. Book excerpt: While large numbers of aeroplanes had been produced In America for the war effort overseas at the Western Front, it was found that that the British, French and Germans were far ahead of them when it came to flight technology, which led to a huge surplus of aeroplanes in the United States. The government’s solution to recover some of the money was to sell the surplus stock off for as little as $200 dollars each. With no licence being required to fly a plane, the offer attracted many ex-fighter pilots as well as civilians, who developed a new American pastime known as barnstorming. Part entertainers, part thrill-seekers, the barnstormers made their way across the country as solo acts and in groups called 'Flying Circuses'. The American flier Ormer Locklear wowed the crowds by climbing out of his aeroplane and walk along the wing, and it wasn’t long before flying circuses held less appeal for spectators if it didn’t have a wing-walking act. Handstands, jumps across planes, and even the odd game of tennis were attempted by barnstormers to attract larger paying audiences. In 1936, the US Government banned wing-walking under 1,500 ft, which doomed aerial stunting, and while a few wing-walking teams operated in the 1970s, it wasn’t until barnstormer Vic Norman founded his famous AeroSuperBatics wing-walking team in the early 1980s that the sight of daredevils hand-standing and flying upside down on the wing was seen in Europe. Several teams around the world subsequently formed using aeroplanes such as the Boeing Stearman or the Curtiss 'Jenny' biplanes to wow crowds as a part of regular air displays, and their appeal has continued to rise since the 2000s.

Book excerpt: This study, commissioned by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), examines the role of robotic exploration missions in assessing the risks to the first human missions to Mars. Only those hazards arising from exposure to environmental, chemical, and biological agents on the planet are assessed. To ensure that it was including all previously identified hazards in its study, the Committee on Precursor Measurements Necessary to Support Human Operations on the Surface of Mars referred to the most recent report from NASA's Mars Exploration Program/ Payload Analysis Group (MEPAG) (Greeley, 2001). The committee concluded that the requirements identified in the present NRC report are indeed the only ones essential for NASA to pursue in order to mitigate potential hazards to the first human missions to Mars.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Ancient Aliens on Mars II, New York Times bestselling author Mike Bara returns the reader to Mars to examine the enduring mysteries of the Red Planet. Building on the case made in Ancient Aliens on Mars and using data acquired from sophisticated new scientific instruments like the Mars Odyssey THEMIS infrared imager, Bara shows that the region of Cydonia overlays a vast underground city full of enormous structures and devices that may still be operating. He peels back the layers of mystery to show images of tunnel systems, temples and ruins, and exposes the sophisticated NASA conspiracy designed to hide them and discredit the researchers that discovered these exotic ruins. Bara also tackles the enigma of Mars’ hollowed out moon Phobos, and exposes evidence from over 30 years of observations that it is artificial. Long-held myths about Mars, including claims that it is protected by a sophisticated UFO defense system, are examined and illuminated. Data from the Mars rovers Spirit, Opportunity and Curiosity is examined; everything from fossilized plants to mechanical debris is exposed in images taken directly from NASA’s own archives. Finally, the author offers his take on the secret history of the Red Planet and what happened to the highly advanced civilization that once flourished there.
