Book excerpt: This can be your turning point. God can take the hardest places in your life - the things you never thought you’d overcome - and heal you and set you free so you can use your story to help other people discover their own abundant life. The message of this book is simple: You can be healed and overcome. You can walk in freedom. Through the power of the Holy Spirit and the work that Jesus did at the cross, you don’t have to stay trapped in your pain and heartache. No person is doomed to repeat the cycles of the past. You can choose, as I did so many years ago, to start your own journey to healing and freedom and start really living the abundant life Jesus has for you. Are you ready? Let’s get started.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays takes as its starting point Arthur Ripstein's Force and Freedom: Kant's Legal and Political Philosophy, a seminal work on Kant's thinking about law, which also treats many of the contemporary issues of legal and political philosophy. The essays offer readings and elucidations of Ripstein's thought, dispute some of his claims and extend some of his themes within broader philosophical contexts, thus developing the significance of Ripstein's ideas for contemporary legal and political philosophy. All of the essays are contributions to normative philosophy in a broadly Kantian spirit. Prominent themes include rights in the body, the relation between morality and law, the nature of coercion and its role in legal obligation, the role of indeterminacy in law, the nature and justification of political society and the theory of the state. This volume will be of interest to a wide audience, including legal scholars, Kant scholars, and philosophers with an interest in Kant or in legal and political philosophy.

Book excerpt: What do you say to someone who is hurting? How many times in everyday conversation do we struggle to comfort others in a troubled world? Christians should be "first responders," say Andy Reese and Jennifer Barnett, yet we lack the tools and confidence to reach out. We end up frustrated by our own inability to connect meaningfully and make a difference. But what would happen if we had the ability and courage to speak out in love? In these pages Andy and Jennifer give you the practical understanding and simple tools to do just that. You can fill even your casual conversations with the gentle yet transforming power of Jesus Christ. Here is what you need to confidently step out to bring peace, give grace and help others experience renewal. Visit www.freedomprayer.org for more information. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using cultural theory, author R. Bruce Brasell investigates issues surrounding the discursive presentation of the American South as biracial and explores its manifestation in documentary films, including such works as Tell about the South, bro•ken/ground, and Family Name. After considering the emergence of the region's biraciality through a consideration of the concepts of racial citizenry and racial performativity, Brasell examines two problems associated with this framework. First, the framework assumes racial purity, and, second, it assumes that two races exist. In other words, biraciality enacts two denials, first, the existence of miscegenation in the region and, second, the existence of other races and ethnicities. Brasell considers bodily miscegenation, discussing the racial closet and the southeastern expatriate road film. Then he examines cultural miscegenation through the lens of racial poaching and 1970s southeastern documentaries that use redemptive ethnography. In the subsequent chapters, using specific documentary films, he considers the racial in-betweenness of Spanish-speaking ethnicities (Mosquitoes and High Water, Living in America, Nuestra Communidad), probes issues related to the process of racial negotiation experienced by Asian Americans as they seek a racial position beyond the black and white binary (Mississippi Triangle), and engages the problem of racial legitimacy confronted by federally non-recognized Native groups as they attempt the same feat (Real Indian).

Book excerpt: Life is full of ups and downs and round and rounds often having nothing to do with what we have or have not done; it's just life on planet Earth. That being said, when these things happen, we become paralyzed and the freedom Christ gave us disappears from our sight. When that happens, we begin a series of bad decisions of our own volition causing us to go further into imprisonment in our minds and hearts. It isn't God's freedom has been removed; rather our mind tells us it was never available, it isn't for us, or we're so deeply into our conundrum it is no longer attainable. This short book is written for the sole purpose of aiding people to both attain and maintain freedom no matter how bleak things look or feel. One must always keep in mind feelings are just that - a vapor that waxes and wanes but holds little to no truth. When we can purpose to lock on to truth from God's Kingdom, we will be better equipped to attain God's free gift of the liberty that seems to elude most people.
