Book excerpt: "Scripture is far from silent on the subject of baptism, yet history is strewn with such a variety of perspectives that it becomes difficult to gain a clear view of what the Bible itself actually has to say: How would the original readers of Acts, Romans, or Colossians have understood the texts concerning baptism when they read them for the very first time? How do readers of today understand the baptismal references of the New Testament if they have no particular commitment to a certain theological point of view? In thirteen chapters, Dr. Cottrell discusses the twelve major texts in the New Testament and does so by examining the meaning of the original words, the historical background, and the comparative references. The texts covered: Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-16, John 3:3-5, Acts 2:38-39, Acts 22:16, Romans 6:3-4, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Galatians 3:26-27, Ephesians 5:25-27, Colossians 2:11-13, Titus 3:5, 1 Peter 3:21"--P. Book Synopsis WALK in the Newness of LIFE by : Bob Benoit
Download or read book WALK in the Newness of LIFE written by Bob Benoit and published by . This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Romans 6 we read that because of what Christ did, we too may "walk in newness of life." What does it mean to "walk" in the newness of life? How do we walk "in the newness" of life? Who is the life? What's the opposite of walking in the newness of life? Scripture explains Scripture. So each lesson herein is a paragraph or two of scripture, in context, sorted by theme, where two or more of the words "walk, new, life, and/or in Christ Jesus" (and their various synonyms) appear in the same paragraph; followed by four questions. Each Scripture is in context, but it is best if you also read what surrounds these verses. The following are some of the Scriptures included in this Bible study on walking in the newness of life. Walking in the Life starts by knowing Jesus and what He did on the cross - for you. Jesus is the Christ, God's Son, and the Son has life in Himself. He is the life; He gives life, and that life is eternal life. The death that He died, He died to sin once for all. We were crucified with Him, and we have been made alive together with Him. By grace we have been saved. He purchased newness of life. Those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with its passions and desires, died to self, walk according to the Spirit, and live according to the will of God. The Spirit of Truth guides us into all truth. We walk in the truth, in His ways as children of light, built up in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, who gives life. We put on the Lord Jesus Christ in the likeness of God, created in righteousness and holiness. His love is perfected in us. We obey His voice. We trust in Him and put our hope in Him. We find wisdom in Him and gain understanding. He gives life to our soul and grace to our neck. The peace of God rules in our hearts, the word of Christ dwells richly in us, and whatever we do, we do in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God through Him, for we were created in Christ Jesus, to walk in good works. "It is no longer I who live, but Christ in me." The following are some other Bible studies similar to "Those who are Christ's have CRUCIFIED the FLESH" which are all part of the IN HIM series: abide IN HIM... and HIM IN us... and bear fruit... for without HIM nothing is possible... and with HIM nothing is impossible. The following books were released in 2020: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A FOLLOWER (DISCIPLE) OF JESUS CHRIST TODAY? - Follow JESUS - Part 1 (1-43) - Follow JESUS - Part 2 (44-83) - All the times JESUS said I AM (84-147) HOW DO WE ABIDE IN HIM AND HIS WORDS IN US? - Abide IN the WORD and the WORD IN YOU (1-59) - DO the WORD (coming soon) - PREACH the WORD (coming soon) WHAT AND WHO IS THE TRUTH? - Know the TRUTH (1-45) - Walk IN the TRUTH (46-86) HOW DO WE LIVE AND WALK IN THE SPIRIT (AND NOT THE FLESH)? - Discern SPIRIT and Flesh (1-24) - Crucify the FLESH (25-58) - Live IN the SPIRIT (59-95) - Walk IN the SPIRIT (96-153) WHY IS IT ESSENTIAL THAT JESUS ABIDE IN US? - JESUS Abiding IN YOU (1-36) - The SPIRIT of GOD IN YOU (37-70) - Abide IN JESUS and IN HIS LOVE (71-129) ABIDING AND WALKING IN THE LIGHT - Abide IN the LIGHT (1-33) - Walk IN the LIGHT (34-64) LIVING AND WALKING IN THE ABIDING LIFE - There is LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS (1-40) - Walk IN the NEWNESS of LIFE (41-86) ARE YOU FREE INDEED? - Freedom IN CHRIST (1-50) TRUST AND HOPE IN HIM; NOT OPTIONAL - Trust IN the LORD - Part 1 (1-50) - Trust IN the LORD - Part 2 (51-99) - Hope IN the LORD (100-157)

Book Synopsis The Presbyterian Philosopher by : Douglas J. Douma
Download or read book The Presbyterian Philosopher written by Douglas J. Douma and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-01-24 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of Gordon Clark (1902-85), respected philosopher and prolific writer, who held that Christianity, as a logically coherent system, is superior to all other philosophies. Clark fought no wars and conquered no kingdoms. Yet he was a leading figure in many theological wars fought for the Kingdom of God. These battles for the minds and souls of men were every bit as crucial as physical wars between nations. In an age of increasing secularization, he put up an intellectual defense of the Christian faith. This faith, he believed, was a system. All of its parts link together, a luxury of no other philosophy. His stance shows a Christianity that is in fact intellectual, not relying on appeals to emotion or experience. In propounding this view, he encountered frequent opposition, not from the secular world, but from within his own denomination. This biography helps explain why his thought was so profound, why resistance mounted against him, and how his struggles impacted American Presbyterianism. Additionally, this book calls for a reappraisal of Clark's views, which have been maligned by controversy. Understanding and applying his views could significantly fortify Christians combating irrational and non-systematic ideas prevalent in today's churches.

Book Synopsis The Newness of Life by : Stanley B. Mathurin
Download or read book The Newness of Life written by Stanley B. Mathurin and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-07-06 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Readers, you have authority over the powers of darkness that you have not yet unfolded and apprehended for yourself and therefore are not using. Well, not too long ago I discovered this truth for myself, so don't feel bad. As I searched the scriptures, I became cognizant of the power that I possess in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. I had been defeated countless times, using the wrong means to try to overcome my defeats. I was being tossed to and fro by the enemy of my soul. It took me a long time to learn and acknowledge who I am and my purpose for being here on earth, but thanks be to God, He has given me the victory through Christ Jesus. In this book you will discover that no matter what you used to be, God can bring you back to where you should be in Christ Jesus, the Messiah, and use you for HIs glory in a mighty way. Like the Apostle Paul, no matter what your past life story has to tell or what sins you committed, your slate becomes completely clean when you come to know Jesus. Yes! You are made entirely brand new. God sees you just as if you had never sinned at all. Before he was named Paul, Saul was a persecutor of those who believed in Jesus as Messiah. One day, he experienced a miraculous conversion while on a road trip to Damascus to persecute some believers, as recorded in Acts 9:3, which transformed him into a man and his life into a ministry on fire for the Lord, because of God's grace and mercy towards him. You, too, can be transformed and begin walking in The Newness of Life and serving Him in the newness of the Holy Spirit. 1 Samuel 14:6 assures us that "... nothing restrains the LORD from saving by many or by few."
