Download or read book Christentum und Judentum im Wandel der Zeiten written by Kurt Schubert and published by Böhlau Verlag Wien. This book was released on 2003 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines the attitudes of Christiantiy toward Judaism throughout the ages, focusing on the Christian roots of antisemitism. Argues that Christianity served as topsoil for an anti-Christian biological antisemitism which turned into a violent hatred of Jews in the 19th and 20th centuries. Wonders if the antagonism is rooted in the lack of comprehension by antisemites of the religious and cultural values of Jews and Judaism. Aims to teach non-Jews to comprehend Judaism from a Jewish perspective, and to teach Jews why they are so often and so greatly misunderstood. Discusses antagonism between pagans and Jews, anti-Judaism in the New Testament and in early Christian and medieval Christian polemics, accusations in the medieval period and after - e.g. blood libels, host desecration, well-poisoning, attacks against the Talmud and against usury, disputations, forced conversions and the problem of the Conversos. Deals with problems of assimilation and antisemitism in the early modern and modern periods. Traces the progression in Germany from racial hatred to the Holocaust.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Jews and Christians – Parting Ways in the First Two Centuries CE? by : Jens Schröter
Download or read book Jews and Christians – Parting Ways in the First Two Centuries CE? written by Jens Schröter and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2021-08-23 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is based on a conference held in October 2019 at the Faculty of Theology of Humboldt University Berlin as part of a common project of the Australian Catholic University, the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the Humboldt University Berlin. The aim is to discuss the relationships of “Jews” and “Christians” in the first two centuries CE against the background of recent debates which have called into question the image of “parting ways” for a description of the relationships of Judaism and Christianity in antiquity. One objection raised against this metaphor is that it accentuates differences at the expense of commonalities. Another critique is that this image looks from a later perspective at historical developments which can hardly be grasped with such a metaphor. It is more likely that distinctions between Jews, Christians, Jewish Christians, Christian Jews etc. are more blurred than the image of “parting ways” allows. In light of these considerations the contributions in this volume discuss the cogency of the “parting of the ways”-model with a look at prominent early Christian writers and places and suggest more appropriate metaphors to describe the relationships of Jews and Christians in the early period.

Book Synopsis Juden und Christen in der Antike by : Jacobus van Amersfoort
Download or read book Juden und Christen in der Antike written by Jacobus van Amersfoort and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 1990 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book opens with an impressive article by Georg Kretschmar. The relationship and the increasing difference between Jews and Christians are determined by the way Jews and Christians have defined themselves against one another. Christians saw Jews as those who rejected Jesus, and therefore identified themselves in opposition to the Jews. The one and only Church, in origin Jewish and gentile became - by definition - anti-Jewish. One of the consequences was Auschwitz, for Jews a never-ending experience. The distinction between Jews and Christians is still present in modern definitions of Church. The problem remains: how can Jews and Christians be defined differently, and both be successors to the same tradition? Other contributions are: Legem statuimus, on rhetorical aspects in the discussion (Johannes S. Vos - Amsterdam), Wie steht es um den judischen Einfluss auf den christlichen Martyrerkult? (Willy Rordorf - Neuchatel), Die Epistula Anne ad Senecam (Wolfgang Wischmeyer - Heidelberg), Juden und Christen in Georgien (Tamila Mgaloblishvili - Tbilisi), Juden und Christen in Alexandrien (Roelof van den Broek - Utrecht), Juden und Christen im Heiligen Land (Adolf M. Ritter - Heidelberg), Juden und Christen in Aphrodisias (Pieter W. van der Horst - Utrecht). The book is written in German.

Download or read book Juden, Christen, Muslime written by Karl-Josef Kuschel and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Jesus und das Judentum written by Martin Hengel and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2007 with total page 782 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English summary: The first volume of this history of early Christianity, which will be published in four volumes, describes the path Jesus took and the work he did against the backdrop of contemporary Judaism in Palestine. Martin Hengel and Anna Maria Schwemer begin with a study of Jesus' Galilean origins and then deal with his relationship to John the Baptist and the historical context of his work. This is followed by the form of his preaching as well as its content, which was determined by the beginning kingdom of God, the will of God and the love of the Father. The authors also focus on Jesus as a miracle worker and the problem of his messianic claim, which must not be limited to the question of the title itself. At the end of the book, they deal with the last struggle in Jerusalem, his passion and the appearances of the Risen One.
