Book excerpt: "What do I want to be when I grow up?" It's the question children love to ponder (and act out) at an early age. Here's a question we parents might want to ask ourselves: "How can I gently and lovingly help my children discern what God is calling them to be?" And here's a beautiful answer: Read So Many Ways to Be Holy: A Child's Book about Vocations with your child. Charming pictures of children playing dress-up capture the joy that is to be found in all kinds of lives of service -- from being an artist, a doctor, or an astronaut to becoming a priest, a brother, or a nun, and more! For each occupation, your child will learn the patron saint who would protect and guide them to use their talents for the glory of God! Did you know that the patron saint of scientists is St. Albert the Great? And what about the patron saint of ... farmers? dancers? cooks? or fire fighters or truck drivers or ...? After sparking childish imaginations, the book closes with this sweet prayer.
Book Synopsis Being Priest in India: A Manifesto by : George Thadathil
Download or read book Being Priest in India: A Manifesto written by George Thadathil and published by George Thadathil. This book was released on 2023-08-15 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Priesthood is the mainstay of all major religions. Religious Practices are the prerogative of the ordained ministers or those considered of a priestly class/community. Being Priest in India is an exploration into the contours of 'self-understanding' that revolves around Roman Catholic Priesthood exercised in Indian culture specific context. The integration of a philosophical and theological understanding of 'being priest' with the context-specific realities - cultural diversity, income disparity, and community consciousness leading to stratification along ethnic, linguistic and regional identities. The work is intended as a personal manifesto of a choice one makes to 'serve society' to create harmony by widening the notion of 'being human'. In times of 'boundary demarcations' between communities, the project of creating Basic Human Communities is the call/duty/responsibility that challenges a priest.

Book Synopsis The Vocation Lectures by : Max Weber
Download or read book The Vocation Lectures written by Max Weber and published by Hackett Publishing. This book was released on 2004-03-12 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published separately, Weber's 'Science as a Vocation' and 'Politics as a Vocation' stand as the classic formulations of his positions on two related subjects that go to the heart of his thought: the nature and status of science and its claims to authority; and the nature and status of political claims and the ultimate justification for such claims. Together in this volume, these newly translated lectures offer an ideal point of entry into Weber's central project: understanding how, as Weber put it, "in the West alone there have appeared cultural manifestations [that seem to] go in the direction of universal significance and validity."

Book Synopsis Proclaiming the Gospel to the Indians and the Metis by : Raymond J.A. Huel

This book was released on 1996-07 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since their arrival in Red River in 1845, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate have played an integral role in the history of Canada's North West. The Oblates followed the Hudson's Bay Company trade routes into western Canada. They believed ardently in the importance of bringing the word of Christ to natives of what - to the Oblates - was a new land. Competition with Protestant missionaries added pressure to the missionary work of the Oblates. In recent years, the Oblates have acknowledged that their converts - radically torn from traditional native worship and spirituality - made a sometimes troubled embrace of Christianity. Guided by their vision of Christian society and norms, the Oblates went on to work with the Government of Canada to provide health care and education to treaty Indians on the prairies. Their strong identity as both French and Catholic helped shape both native and non-native communities throughout Canada's North West.

Book Synopsis International Priests in America by : Dean R. Hoge
Download or read book International Priests in America written by Dean R. Hoge and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreign-born priests have always played a significant role in America. Only from 1940 to 1960 did the church produce enough native-born priests to serve its parishes. In the past, those priests usually came from Europe, most notably Ireland. In the future, most of the world will be served by priests from Asia, Africa, and Latin America, particularly India and Nigeria. Sixteen percent of the priests serving in the United States since 1985 are foreign-born and the number is rising. But many Americans prefer not to have them in their churches, saying the language and cultural differences are too great, and the screening isn't sufficient. International Priests in Americastudies this phenomenon from the perspective of parishioners, lay ministers, diocesan leaders, and priests. This groundbreaking book is guided by two questions: Should the Catholic Church in the United States bring in more international priests? If so, how should this be done?

Download or read book Metanoia: A Catholic Book Series, Book Number Three: Vocation: Common Priest by Baptism written by Cecil Donald Leighton, Jr. and published by Cecil Donald Leighton, Jr.. This book was released on 2023-09-23 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metanoia: A Catholic Book Series, Book Number Three: Vocation: Common Priest by Baptism is the author’s third publication in a series of Catholic books. In Vocation: Common Priest by Baptism, the author sets forth his personal experience in discerning whether Jesus Christ is calling him to share or participate in The Eternal Priesthood of Christ, as a common priest by Baptism or as a ministerial priest by Holy Orders. In answering this question, the author recounts 25 years of priestly misidentifications and associations made by strangers, parishioners, family, friends, and neighbors, connecting them with the irrevocable and inseparable gifts and call of a true Catholic priest (i.e., Sacerdos alter Christus). He is publishing this book in hopes that other Catholic men formally in discernment may find it instructive. Finally, this book is part of the author’s lay apostolate of Roman Catholic witness to the reality, power, and transforming/saving love of God, as well as the author’s response to and promotion of the Church’s “universal call to holiness” (Lumen Gentium) and the “new evangelization” (Novo Millenio Ineunte), in the electronically and globally connected virtual world of the Internet.
Download or read book Christianity written by John Chathanatt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-08 with total page 773 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in the Series Encyclopedia of Indian Religions, this volume is devoted to Christianity in India, where it has had a long presence, going back to the time of the apostles of Jesus Christ. Divided into two parts, this volume focuses on the history, origin, organizations and local engagements, belief system, worship practices, Rites, Rituals, Christian life, Contributions, Spirituality and a few of the main doctrinal items. The Second Part covers the doctrinal and theological arena. It examines the earlier phase of the history of Christianity starting with the traditional belief of the arrival of St. Thomas in AD 52, moving to the periods of its association with the Chaldean church, the Portuguese, the Dutch, English and so on. This volume highlights the missionary activities of persons like St. Francis Xavier, the creative contributions made to the inter-religious dialogue by such people as Roberto de Nobili (1577-1656) and Swami Abhishiktananda (1910-1973), the linguistic and educational contributions of some of the pioneers like the German Jesuit Johanne Ernst Hanxleden (known as Arnos Padiri) (1681-1732), Herman Gundert (1814-1893), St. Elias Kuriakos Chavara (1805-1871), and, a fortiori, the enormous contributions in the healthcare area throughout the country. Caring for and serving the socio-economically marginalized ones, the peripheralized people formed an integral part of the Christian activity In India, as it is done even today. This is highlighted very much in the volume. It, further, explores the contact India had with European Christianity, showing that European Christianity proved to have wider influence in the Norther part of India, unlike India’s early episodic encounters with Palestinian and Persian forms of Christianity, which had deep influence in the Southern part of India. The volume also highlights the inner struggle among the followers resulting even in its division originating at the Synod of Diamper in 1599 manifesting, by and large, the Church-state ‘love and hate’ relationships. In fine, in spite of the drawbacks of putting the herculean task of two thousand years of history in eight hundred pages or so, this volume gives a rather comprehensive view of Christianity in India especially to those who are unfamiliar with its life and dynamics in the Indian context. The wide range of photographs, especially of the churches revealing the architectural beauty and multiplicity along with the ensample of art and paintings and pilgrimage centers adds to the enrichment of the volume.
