Book Synopsis Migration and Urbanization: Local Solutions for Global Economic Challenges by : Ushakov, Denis

This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International migration and urbanization as economic processes can provide great opportunities to solve local and regional economic and social problems and lead to the leveling of global economic unfairness and multi-complexity. However, uncontrolled migration and urbanization can easily destroy market stability and create many new social and economic problems both in developed (due to migration) and developing (due to urbanization) countries. Migration and Urbanization: Local Solutions for Global Economic Challenges is a collection of innovative research that sets basic rules and patterns for state regulation of urbanization and international migration and for increasing the economic efficiency of developed and developing countries. Additionally, the book evaluates the economic impact of urbanization and international migration at the global, national, and regional levels. While highlighting topics including economic security, modern mechanisms, and migration policy, this book is ideally designed for government officials, economists, educators, policymakers, industry leaders, business managers, academicians, researchers, and students.

Book excerpt: Besides the difficult personal transitions involved in growth from childhood to adulthood, immigrant adolescents face difficult transitions to school as well, as they move from their native cultures to the U.S. culture, through the structures and gateposts of secondary school, and into higher education and work. This book discusses four specific principles that can be applied by secondary school staff to facilitate these reconceptualizations and promote students' transitions are proposed: (1) cultivating organizational relationships with and among health and social service agencies, community-based organizations, and higher education institutions; (2) providing access to information, about U.S. schools and culture, available resources and support services, workplaces and career preparation, and higher education; (3) cultivating human relationships, between immigrant students and adults, between students, among school staff, and between educators and families; and (4) providing multiple and flexible pathways into U.S. schooling and culture, into the mainstream, and beyond secondary school. With discussion of each of the principles, a list of questions is offered for school staff to ask in establishing practices based on the principle. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the arrival and development of Muslim immigrant communities in Britain and Germany during the post-1945 period through the case studies of Newcastle upon Tyne and Bremen. It traces Newcastle’s South Asian Muslims and Bremen’s Turkish Muslims from their initial settlement through to the end of the twentieth century, and investigates their behaviour and performance in the areas of employment, housing and education. At a time at when Islam is sometimes seen as a barrier to integration and harmony in Europe, this study demonstrates that this need not be the case. In what is the first comparison of Muslim ethnic minorities in Britain and Germany at a local level, this book reveals that instances of integration have been frequent. It is essential reading for both academics and students with an interest in migration studies, modern Britain and Germany, and the place of Islam in contemporary Europe.
