Book Synopsis Intelligent Multimedia Processing with Soft Computing by : Yap Peng Tan
Download or read book Intelligent Multimedia Processing with Soft Computing written by Yap Peng Tan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-09-15 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soft computing represents a collection of techniques, such as neural networks, evolutionary computation, fuzzy logic, and probabilistic reasoning. As - posed to conventional "hard" computing, these techniques tolerate impre- sion and uncertainty, similar to human beings. In the recent years, successful applications of these powerful methods have been published in many dis- plines in numerous journals, conferences, as well as the excellent books in this book series on Studies in Fuzziness and Soft Computing. This volume is dedicated to recent novel applications of soft computing in multimedia processing. The book is composed of 21 chapters written by experts in their respective fields, addressing various important and timely problems in multimedia computing such as content analysis, indexing and retrieval, recognition and compression, processing and filtering, etc. In the chapter authored by Guan, Muneesawang, Lay, Amin, and Lee, a radial basis function network with Laplacian mixture model is employed to perform image and video retrieval. D. Androutsos, P. Androutsos, Plataniotis, and Venetsanopoulos investigate color image indexing and retrieval within a small-world framework. Wu and Yap develop a framework of fuzzy relevance feedback to model the uncertainty of users' subjective perception in image retrieval.
Book Synopsis The Mojette Transform by : Jeanpierre Guédon
Download or read book The Mojette Transform written by Jeanpierre Guédon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied sciences in the 20th century have developed and used unitary transforms for concentrating energy. Now, the challenge lies in the expression and use of redundancy to build redundant systems. The Mojette transform is a very simple transform using only additions but with strong properties that break this challenge. The first part of the book gives the basics of the Mojette transform both mathematically and the corresponding optimal algorithms. The second part exemplifies its use through different fields: image representation, watermarking, medical imaging, distributed storage, information and cryptography. This book about a discrete exact Radon transform explains how to usefully produce and cope with redundancy for solving 21st century problems

Download or read book Vision Chips written by Alireza Moini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-10-31 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This chapter presents a set of introductory material, which in addition to providing a general view on the topic, highlights the importance of research in this area. It also presents a short history of the design of smart vision sensors, and points out some of the fundamental issues in the design of such sensors. 1. 1 A General Overview Machine vision is one of the main branches of artificial intelligence. The richness of information present in images makes them the first choice as an input to an artificial system which tries to interact with its environment. A large proportion of the brain of many advanced species is dedicated to visual information processing, which illustrates the importance of visual information in biological systems. Biological visual systems have evolved over millions of years, and each specie has developed a specialized visual system tailored for the essential tasks of survival, such as catching a prey, or escaping a predator. Implementing electronic hardware for image processing, therefore, may benefit from the underlying fundamental aspects of biological vision, though in no respect should this be regarded as a solid framework for electronic vision systems. Traditionally, computer vision algorithms are performed on images captured by conventional cameras, and processing is accomplished by means of general purpose digital computers. More advanced systems utilize dedicated hardware to speed up the processing stage.
