Book Synopsis VLSI Implementations for Image Communications by : P. Pirsch
Download or read book VLSI Implementations for Image Communications written by P. Pirsch and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past few years have seen a rapid growth in image processing and image communication technologies. New video services and multimedia applications are continuously being designed. Essential for all these applications are image and video compression techniques. The purpose of this book is to report on recent advances in VLSI architectures and their implementation for video signal processing applications with emphasis on video coding for bit rate reduction.Efficient VLSI implementation for video signal processing spans a broad range of disciplines involving algorithms, architectures, circuits, and systems. Recent progress in VLSI architectures and implementations has resulted in the reduction in cost and size of video signal processing equipment and has made video applications more practical. The topics covered in this volume demonstrate the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of VLSI implementation of video signal processing applications, involving interactions between algorithms, VLSI architectures, circuit techniques, semiconductor technologies and CAD for microelectronics.

Book Synopsis Discrete Geometry for Computer Imagery by : Serge Miguet
Download or read book Discrete Geometry for Computer Imagery written by Serge Miguet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-11-06 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on Discrete Geometry for Computer Imagery, DGCI'96, held in Lyon, France, in November 1996. Computer imaging essentially depends on discrete models for coding, processing, recognition, representation, etc. The volume presents 24 revised full papers selected from 41 submissions together with 3 invited contributions and a tutorial paper, which bridges the gap between theory and practice. The issues addressed are topology, geometry, shape representation, 3D surfaces and volumes, models for discrete space, image transformation and generation.

Book Synopsis Vector Quantization and Signal Compression by : Allen Gersho
Download or read book Vector Quantization and Signal Compression written by Allen Gersho and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 737 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Herb Caen, a popular columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, recently quoted a Voice of America press release as saying that it was reorganizing in order to "eliminate duplication and redundancy. " This quote both states a goal of data compression and illustrates its common need: the removal of duplication (or redundancy) can provide a more efficient representation of data and the quoted phrase is itself a candidate for such surgery. Not only can the number of words in the quote be reduced without losing informa tion, but the statement would actually be enhanced by such compression since it will no longer exemplify the wrong that the policy is supposed to correct. Here compression can streamline the phrase and minimize the em barassment while improving the English style. Compression in general is intended to provide efficient representations of data while preserving the essential information contained in the data. This book is devoted to the theory and practice of signal compression, i. e. , data compression applied to signals such as speech, audio, images, and video signals (excluding other data types such as financial data or general purpose computer data). The emphasis is on the conversion of analog waveforms into efficient digital representations and on the compression of digital information into the fewest possible bits. Both operations should yield the highest possible reconstruction fidelity subject to constraints on the bit rate and implementation complexity.
Book Synopsis Numerical Methods in Approximation Theory, Vol. 9 by : D. Braess
Download or read book Numerical Methods in Approximation Theory, Vol. 9 written by D. Braess and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-03-11 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the official proceedings of a conference on Numerical Methods in Approximation Theory which was held at the Mathematisches Forschungs institut in Oberwolfach during the week of November 24~30, 1991. It contains refereed and edited papers by 20 of the 49 participants. The book is dedicated to the memory of Prof. Lothar Collatz who main tained a long and active interest in numerical approximation. It is the ninth in a series of volumes published by Birkhiiuser resulting from conferences on the subject held at Oberwolfach, and co-organized by Prof. Collatz. We now briefly describe the contents of the book. The paper of BASZEN SKI, DELVOS and JESTER deals with blending using sine double series expan sions of functions defined on the unit square. In addition to giving explicit error estimates for partial sums and for interpolating sine polynomials, they also show that Boolean sums yield almost the same asymptotic error estimates as the conventional tensor-product approach, but with a reduced number of terms. The paper of BEATSON and LIGHT discusses approximation by quasi interpolants which are sums of scaled translates of a one-parameter family of functions. They do not require reproduction of low degree polynomials, but nevertheless are able to give error bounds and analyze quasi-interpolation based on Gaussians and exponentials. BINEV and JETTER deal with multivariate interpolation using shifts of a single basis function. They treat both gridded data and scattered data. As examples, they consider box splines and certain radial basis functions.
