The idea behind this collection of videos was to delve into some of the basics of English pronunciation, moving aside from those explanations which involved repetitions of sounds and words as well as explanations which can be too technical for second language learners to understand. In this sense, the explanations which can be found in these videos are based on articulatory phonetics and how sounds are produced. Following Adrien Underhill’s approach to teaching pronunciation, the authors attempted to bring the characteristics of English sounds closer by focusing on factors such as point of articulation, tongue movement, air release, mouth and lip position, and voiced or voiceless sounds. This approach attempted to unlock the grip of the L1 as regards L1 phonetics in order to improve students’ perception and production of English sounds. Furthermore, examples of words containing these sounds together with animations representing the sound production organs were used.
