Doubtless many over-fed and under-worked horses become difficult to manage in the hands of irresolute or timid owners; but such animals can readily be brought back to a state of discipline by a strong and determined rider. By far the greater number of really dangerous horses have been made vicious by the incompetency of those who have undertaken to prepare them for usefulness, and it is the more difficult to correct the faults of such horses, seeing that there has never been any discipline which might be re-established. To one who has had experience in the training of young horses, it is easy to imagine the steps by which a generous and spirited colt is brought to a condition of continuous and active mutiny.
