Book Synopsis Ventura County Veterans by : Jannette Jauregui
Download or read book Ventura County Veterans written by Jannette Jauregui and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ventura County's military history encompasses much more than the strategic naval bases that have occupied the shorelines and flatlands of the Pacific Coast from Point Mugu to La Conchita. Individuals from Oxnard, Ventura, Port Hueneme, Camarillo, Santa Paula, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Simi Valley, Fillmore, Ojai, Piru, and the other cities, towns, and neighborhoods in the county proudly served their country in times of war. The images in this book pay homage to some of those individuals--men and women who sacrificed so much to preserve freedom. From the European and Pacific fronts of World War II , to the snowy winters in Korea, through the tribulations of the Vietnam era, this book goes beyond the broad scope of war and into the personal experiences of Ventura County's heroes.

Book Synopsis My God and My Story by : David Wilson
Download or read book My God and My Story written by David Wilson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every Christian has a story, or should. It is a story of what God had done in their lives. The man born blind narrative in the Gospel of John, chapter 9, is the best illustration of this principle. The religious leaders of his day wanted to argue theology about Jesus. The blind man never saw Jesus and knew nothing about him, except as he was begging a discussion about why he was born blind arose, someone put mud in his eyes and told him to wash his face, someone named Jesus, and as he washed, he received his sight. The religious leaders tried to discredit the man, but he stood by his story: "I was once blind, but now I see, and the man's name who did this is Jesus." This is what My God and My Story is all about. Some may want to argue about the existence of God and who Jesus is. They want to want to argue about the Bible, whether or not it is the Word of God or just a book about God. I know God is real. I know Jesus Christ is his only Begotten Son and my Lord and Savior. I know the Holy Spirit is active today. How do I know? My God and My Story tells how I know. A witness in court can only tell what they have personally seen and heard. All else is considered hearsay. Jesus commanded us as Christians to be his witness. I can only testify to what I have personally seen and heard. It is my story.

Book Synopsis Narrative Productions of Meanings by : Donileen R. Loseke
Download or read book Narrative Productions of Meanings written by Donileen R. Loseke and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-04-08 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Narrative Productions of Meanings: Exploring the Work of Stories in Social Life, Donileen R. Loseke examines the importance of stories in an anti-science, anti-fact era where a multitude of personal, social, and political problems surround meaning. This book’s basic argument is that, within such a world, narrative productions of meaning are particularly important because stories can appeal simultaneously to thinking, feeling, and moral evaluation, and because they can do this in ways that have cultural, interactional, and personal dimensions. This bookdevelops a framework for social science examinations of narrative; it outlines relationships between stories, storytelling, and culture; and it explores the characteristics of several types of stories including self stories, stories that persuade mass audiences that public resources are required to resolve intolerable conditions, and stories that justify the contents of public policy. It concludes with relationships between stories and democratic politics. In multiple ways, this analysis crosses common divides: It draws from literature spanning multiple disciplines; it treats thinking, feeling, and moral evaluation as inseparable; it bridges cultural and social psychological perspectives; and it demonstrates relationships between story structure and the work people do with stories.

Book Synopsis Mexican Americans with Moxie by : Frank P. Barajas
Download or read book Mexican Americans with Moxie written by Frank P. Barajas and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2021-08 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Mexican Americans with Moxie Frank P. Barajas argues that Chicanas and Chicanos of the 1960s and 1970s expressed politics distinct from the Mexican American generation that came of age in the decades prior. Barajas focuses on the citrus communities of Fillmore and Santa Paula and the more economically diversified and populated rurban municipalities of Oxnard, Simi Valley, and Ventura, illustrating Ventura County's relationship to Los Angeles and El Movimiento's ties to suburbanization, freeway construction, and the rise of a high-tech and defense-industry corridor. Mexican Americans with Moxie devotes particular attention to cross-cultural dynamics that transcended space and generation. The residents of Ventura County became involved with national issues such as the Vietnam War, school desegregation, labor, and electoral politics. The actions of Black students at the community colleges of Moorpark and Ventura and other area universities inspired Mexican American youth of Ventura County to assess their own activism. Mexican Americans with Moxie situates the Chicana-Chicano movement within the nation's struggle to achieve social justice. From this history, readers will gain a new appreciation for how leadership development spans generations and contributes to the identity formation of communities.

Many other suggested adventures refer to sights where ghosts of movie stars like Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift, and Howard Hughes have been seen. There are also numerous anecdotes and leads for exploring more obscure supernatural entities like the “murdered waitress,” the “ghost protester,” “indigenous ghosts,” and many other seemingly anonymous spirits around the Los Angeles area. The appendix is full of references for further exploration, including a list of local ghost tours, historical societies and museums, and an exhaustive list of suggested books, Internet resources, films, and national organizations relating to ghostly communications. A handy sighting report form is included to assist witnesses in the case of an encounter. “Jeff Dwyer has done it again. Easily one of the best Ghost Story writers working today.
