This book was released on 1992 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a new proof of the identities needed to exhibit an explicit [bold]Z-basis for the universal enveloping algebra associated to an affine Lie algebra. We then use the explicit [bold]Z-bases to extend Borcherds' description, via vertex operator representations, of a [bold]Z-form of the enveloping algebras for the simply-laced affine Lie algebras to the enveloping algebras associated to the unequal root length affine Lie algebras.

This book was released on 1992 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is concerned with an algebraically completely integrable Hamiltonian system whose solutions may be used to describe the finite gap solutions of the AKNS spectral problem, a first order two-by-two matrix linear system. Trace formulas, constraints, Lax paris, and constants of motion are obtained using Krichever's algebraic inverse spectral transform. Computations are carried out explicityly over the class of spectral problems with square matrix coefficients.
Book Synopsis Continuous Images of Arcs and Inverse Limit Methods by : Jacek Nikiel
Download or read book Continuous Images of Arcs and Inverse Limit Methods written by Jacek Nikiel and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1993 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuous images of ordered continua are investigated. The paper gives various properties of their monotone images and inverse limits of their inverse systems (or sequences) with monotone bonding surjections. Some factorization theorems are provided. Special attention is given to one-dimensional spaces which are continuous images of arcs and, among them, various classes of rim-finite continua. The methods of proofs include cyclic element theory, T-set approximations and null-family decompositions. The paper brings also new properties of cyclic elements and T-sets in locally connected continua, in general.
Book Synopsis Intersections of Thick Cantor Sets by : Roger Kraft
Download or read book Intersections of Thick Cantor Sets written by Roger Kraft and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1992 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of thickness assigns to every Cantor set in the real line a number from 0 to [infinity symbol]. It was known that for some pairs of numbers the intersection of Cantor sets with such numbers as thicknesses may be just one point and that, in some other cases, with certain conditions, the intersection must contain a Cantor set. The author gives a complete answer to the problem of determining all pairs of thicknesses for which the intersection may be a single point and all the pairs of thicknesses for which the intersection must contain a Cantor set. He also considers the problem of how often, as one Cantor set is being translated over another one, the intersection of the two Cantor sets contains a Cantor set.

This book was released on 1993 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir investigates a method that generalizes the Chern-Federer kinematic formula to arbitrary homogeneous spaces with an invariant Riemannian metric, and leads to new formulas even in the case of submanifolds of Euclidean space.
Book Synopsis Vertex Operator Algebras and the Monster by : Igor Frenkel
Download or read book Vertex Operator Algebras and the Monster written by Igor Frenkel and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1989-05-01 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is motivated by and develops connections between several branches of mathematics and physics--the theories of Lie algebras, finite groups and modular functions in mathematics, and string theory in physics. The first part of the book presents a new mathematical theory of vertex operator algebras, the algebraic counterpart of two-dimensional holomorphic conformal quantum field theory. The remaining part constructs the Monster finite simple group as the automorphism group of a very special vertex operator algebra, called the "moonshine module" because of its relevance to "monstrous moonshine."
Book Synopsis Loop Groups, Discrete Versions of Some Classical Integrable Systems, and Rank 2 Extensions by : Percy Deift
Download or read book Loop Groups, Discrete Versions of Some Classical Integrable Systems, and Rank 2 Extensions written by Percy Deift and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1992 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors show how to interpret recent results of Moser and Veselov on discrete versions of a class of classical integrable systems, in terms of a loop group framework. In this framework the discrete systems appear as time-one maps of integrable Hamiltonian flows. Earlier results of Moser on isospectral deformations of rank 2 extensions of a fixed matrix, can also be incorporated into their scheme.
Book Synopsis Lie Algebras, Vertex Operator Algebras, and Related Topics by : Katrina Barron
Download or read book Lie Algebras, Vertex Operator Algebras, and Related Topics written by Katrina Barron and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the conference on Lie Algebras, Vertex Operator Algebras, and Related Topics, celebrating the 70th birthday of James Lepowsky and Robert Wilson, held from August 14–18, 2015, at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana. Since their seminal work in the 1970s, Lepowsky and Wilson, their collaborators, their students, and those inspired by their work, have developed an amazing body of work intertwining the fields of Lie algebras, vertex algebras, number theory, theoretical physics, quantum groups, the representation theory of finite simple groups, and more. The papers presented here include recent results and descriptions of ongoing research initiatives representing the broad influence and deep connections brought about by the work of Lepowsky and Wilson and include a contribution by Yi-Zhi Huang summarizing some major open problems in these areas, in particular as they pertain to two-dimensional conformal field theory.

Book Synopsis Higher Spinor Classes by : J. F. Jardine
Download or read book Higher Spinor Classes written by J. F. Jardine and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work defines the higher spinor classes of an orthogonal representation of a Galois group. These classes are higher-degree analogues of the Fröhlich spinor class, which quantify the difference between the Stiefel-Whitney classes of an orthogonal representation and the Hasse-Witt classes of the associated form. Jardine establishes various basic properties, including vanishing in odd degrees and an induction formula for quadratic field extensions. The methods used include the homotopy theory of simplicial presheaves and the action of the Steenrod algebra on mod 2 étale cohomology.

Book Synopsis Diagram Cohomology and Isovariant Homotopy Theory by : Giora Dula
Download or read book Diagram Cohomology and Isovariant Homotopy Theory written by Giora Dula and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Obstruction theoretic methods are introduced into isovariant homotopy theory for a class of spaces with group actions; the latter includes all smooth actions of cyclic groups of prime power order. The central technical result is an equivalence between isovariant homotopy and specific equivariant homotopy theories for diagrams under suitable conditions. This leads to isovariant Whitehead theorems, an obstruction-theoretic approach to isovariant homotopy theory with obstructions in cohomology groups of ordinary and equivalent diagrams, and qualitative computations for rational homotopy groups of certain spaces of isovariant self maps of linear spheres. The computations show that these homotopy groups are often far more complicated than the rational homotopy groups for the corresponding spaces of equivariant self maps. Subsequent work will use these computations to construct new families of smooth actions on spheres that are topologically linear but differentiably nonlinear.
