This book was released on 2003 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the various policy options open to the ten countries of the region for improving and diversifying their financial resources. The Asian financial crisis exposed the vulnerabilities of Southeast Asia’s bank-based finance sector, and illustrated the pressing need to develop a more robust and multi-faceted financial infrastructure across the region. Looking ahead, sustained economic development in Southeast Asia will be constrained unless the region can embrace new sources of capital. Authored by experts in their respective fields, the chapters of this book examine such issues as the region’s current debt burden, the region’s banking sector since the 1997–98 crisis, micro-financing efforts in the region, new opportunities in project financing, developing venture capital capabilities, reviving foreign direct investment inflows, creating bond markets, developing the region’s lacklustre equity markets, and the potential benefits of financial integration.

Entrepreneurship refers to the dynamic process of creating a new business venture. Small business management addresses various issues of organizing and operating a small business. The goal of this textbook is to provide a package covering all of the issues related to business start-up and those arising from running a small business within the Australasian and South-East Asian contexts. The geographic markets for the book are Australasia (Australia and New Zealand) and South-East Asia (Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore). An increasing amount of goods, capital and people are moving between these two regions and this text provides the reader with a better regional understanding of this environment. Features The 'What would you do? feature presents a scenario in which an entrepreneur/small business manager needs to respond to a problem or situation. The "Entrepreneur profile' in every chapter profiles Australian, New Zealand and Asia-Pacific entrepreneurs and small business leaders. The end-of-chapter case study profiles an entrepreneurial approach and/or small business management issue in the pacific Rim.

This book was released on 2015-12-31 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part I of this report assesses trends and developments in regional trade and investment flows and policies in an attempt to provide the insights and information necessary to separate the cyclical from the structural aspects. Part II analyses the participation of Asia-Pacific economies in global and regional value chains. By observing how economies at different levels of development have integrated into supply chains at different speeds and to varying extents, we can cast light on those policies that influence and shape value chain participation, and hence influence future patterns of trade and investment. The particular features of participation in value chains also have an impact on the ability of countries to access foreign technology and build innovative capacity, which in turn influences structural change and future development options.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the role of employment relations in the context of economic development in some of the key Asian economies: China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, the Phillipines, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. In recent years, these Asian economies have become increasingly more open and export-driven, and there is strong interest all over the world in the Asian economic `miracle' among practitioners and scholars alike. Although much has been written on this region, few books have concentrated on the human resource aspects of this growth. The authors build on the basic premise that the initial success of these countries has lain in low wages and suppression of workers' rights. However, they point out that as employment relations evolve enterprises will either pull out due to rising wages, or stay and prosper by adapting to higher wages. Cases are provided to illustrate both of these features. The evidence in the book suggests that unless a synergy is created between firm-level and state-level human resource policies in areas such as skill formation and workers' need for voice, economic growth is unlikely to be sustainable.
