Book Synopsis Atmospheric and Biological Environmental Monitoring by : Young Kim
Download or read book Atmospheric and Biological Environmental Monitoring written by Young Kim and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-04 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The extent of harmful effects of pollution on atmospheric, terrestrial and aquatic environments can be translated into extreme temperature changes, dirty air, clean water shortages, and increased incidence of toxicity that harms every life on earth. Within a lifetime, our environment is changing drastically. Much of the information of environmental pollution impacts needs to be studied, from the mechanism of toxic nanoparticles on the molecular level to the detection of trace gases on the satellite perspective. It is therefore essential to develop advanced monitoring techniques, e- cient process technologies and health impact assessment tools to ?ll the gaps in our scienti?c knowledge. This edition of “Atmospheric and Biological Environmental Monitoring” is a handful of recent developments and techniques from environmental scientists in well-diversi?ed ?elds. These collections of manuscripts are extracts from the recently concluded “7th International Symposium on Advanced Environmental Monitoring” organized by the ADvanced Environmental Monitoring and Research Center (ADEMRC), Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Korea and held on February 25–28, 2008 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The three parts highlight important aspects of emerging environmental monitoring technologies: Atmospheric Environment, Contaminants Control Process, and Environmental Toxicity Asse- ment. Observational tools presented in the ?rst part ranges from in-situ measurements to satellite remote sensing for atmospheric monitoring. Highlighted in the second part is the recently developed water quality monitoring system for lake strati?cation and membrane technologies for detection and removal of contaminants. Lastly, toxicity monitoring of endocrine disruptors and nanoparticles are highlighted in the third part with new discoveries.

Book Synopsis If Youre Reading This by : Siân Price
Download or read book If Youre Reading This written by Siân Price and published by Frontline Books. This book was released on 2012-02-29 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this brilliant and profoundly moving collection of farewell letters written by servicemen and women to their loved ones, Siân Price offers a remarkable insight into the hearts and minds of some of the soldiers, sailors and airmen of the past three hundred years. Each letter provides an enduring snapshot of an impossible moment in time when an individual stares death squarely in the face. Some were written or dictated as the person lay mortally wounded; many were written on the eve of a great charge or battle; others were written by soldiers who experienced premonitions of their death, or by kamikaze pilots and condemned prisoners. They write of the grim realities of battle, of daily hardships, of unquestioning patriotism or bitter regrets, of religious fervor or political disillusionment, of unrelenting optimism or sinking morale and above all, they write of their love for their family and the desire to return to them one day. Be it an epitaph dictated on a Napoleonic battlefield, a staunch, unsentimental letter written by a Victorian officer, or an email from a soldier in modern day Afghanistan, these voices speak eloquently and forcefully of the tragedy of war and answer that fundamental human need to say goodbye.
Book Synopsis Highlander Imagine - Code Name: Immortal by : Wendy Lou Jones
Download or read book Highlander Imagine - Code Name: Immortal written by Wendy Lou Jones and published by RK Books. This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Code Name: Immortal’ is the third story in the Highlander Imagine series. It continues the adventure only a short time after ‘Beyond Infinity’ ends. Duncan has taken a very powerful Quickening, from a very old Immortal in Central America. Now, he needs time to get it and himself under control. But for a man who is himself an Immortal, time isn’t a luxury that he has. Tessa has just started a new job in Paris under the direction of an ancient Immortal priest who is now working as a library antiquity director. Soon she discovers that there is another Immortal working near her with a similar objective. This leaves the already stressed Duncan feeling a bit uneasy knowing that Tessa is working near an Immortal he’s never met. With demands on his attention pulling him in several directions all at once, even an Immortal’s strength of character can be strained to its limits. When Annelise, Connor MacLeod’s latest girlfriend, suddenly appears on Duncan’s doorstep with a fantastic story of kidnapping, murder, and intrigue – all which seem to have Connor’s name attached to it somehow – Duncan is quick to act. While Tessa is plagued with doubts about what she has heard Annelise say, she is reluctant to stand in Duncan’s way when the life of his cousin may be at risk. Duncan and Annelise board a train in Paris believing that it will be only a short ride before they reach their destination and unravel the mystery of Connor’s disappearance. But instead, their trip – on Europe’s most luxurious train – turns into the most deadly ride of their lives
