Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vaidehi, an 80s bride, takes us through a tyrannical face of patriarchy, that is her life, and how she is able to live, love and find happiness despite her often unbearable circumstances. As she becomes a mother to twins - a boy and a girl - her spirit to ensure fails, as she sees the possibility of history repeating itself with her daughter's life. As her journey of feminism starts, she often fails in the face of society, making her daughter question her, in an ironical turn of events. Maya is a millennial and revels in a sense of freedom that modern marriages commonly offer - until she is faced with a more passive-aggressive face of patriarchy and she's met with a demeaning treatment. As the silence of endurance that she has inherited from her mother and her exposure to feminism clash within her, her mind wanders outside of her marriage. As Maya and Vaidehi's lives intersect, questions and confrontations explode and die out in the generational chasm that create everlasting rifts and regrets, which women live with.

This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ancient writing systems employ logographic and logophonetic principles playing on the relationship between writing, script and scribal learning. The workshop proceedings published in this volume explore the way these relationships encode knowledge and meaning reflected in the social, historical and cultural mentality of the early peoples of East Asia (China and Japan), Anatolia, the Aegean, Egypt and Mesoamerica. The meeting was organized in the FU Berlin on the fall of 2010 by the editor and Dr. Renata Landgrafova (now Charles University, Prague) in the frame of the DFG research training group 1458 "Notational Iconicity" ("Schriftbildlichkeit") headed by Prof. Eva Cancik-Kirschbaum and Prof. Sybille Kramer. The premise of our meeting was that script and the organization of texts can reveal how knowledge is transformed and transmitted among different social groups across time and space, and eventually standardized as written tradition. Its multidisciplinary approach follows recent trends in the attempt to arouse debate between scholars of disparate systems of writing - be it Cuneiform, Hieroglyphic or Linear in nature - and to discuss their elements independent of origin or cultural context. A broad perspective on ancient writing and its visual elements was established with the contributions delving into the aspects of generating knowledge and meaning (J. Janak, M. Weeden), categorizing knowledge (E. Boot, T. W. Kwan, H. Tomas), diffusion and transformation of knowledge (Sh. Gordin, R. Landgrafova) and rationalizing knowledge (E. Birk).

The philosophical mould of the story helps to examine how a person can look inside himself and follow his heart. It takes a closer look at human life through the eyes of an eighteen-year-old college student, Siddharth, who is hollowed out by the guilt of his past. When circumstances bring him together with Maya, they embark on a journey filled with ambition, pain, and hope. This helps in transforming Siddharth’s cynical life, but an unexpected encounter with his past crimes forces him to make a choice between pursuing his dreams and clearing his conscience.

Book excerpt: Western conceptions of objectivity and individuality have resulted in a readier appreciation of the worth of the animals and nature than has been recognized. This provocative book takes issue with the popular view that the Western cultural tradition, in contrast to Eastern and Aboriginal traditions, has encouraged attitudes of domination and exploitation towards nature, particularly animals. Preece argues that the Western tradition has much to commend it, and that descriptions of Aboriginal and Oriental orientations have often been misleadingly rosy, simplified and codified according to current fashionable concepts. Animals and Nature is the result of six years' intensive study into comparative religion, literature, philosophy, anthropology, mythology and animal welfare science.
