Come Home, to where the Pyre incinerates what remains. Come Home, to where you belong. The year is 2035. It has been roughly two years since the Advent Virus infected every human on Earth. Most are asymptomatic carriers—they display no symptoms and are unhurt by the virus. Variants, on the other hand, are genetically enhanced by the virus and given almost supernatural abilities, previously considered to be only possible in comic books or cartoons. Meanwhile, a large minority of the world's population is ruthlessly killed by the virus, falling into comas and passing away. Alex Westsmith was abused as a child, alongside his younger brother, and his mother, at the hands of his father. The legal system failed Alex and his family, over and over, again and again. So, the teenager, armed with his Variant abilities, does what he must, scouring the city by night, hunting and killing those who abuse others. As the vigilante Pyre, alongside his best friend and computer hacker, Richard Caperno—who operates under the alias Reforger—Alex fights for those who would otherwise fall through the cracks of society. But when a ruthless new faction of radicals and terrorists abducts one of their classmates, will the Variant vigilante and his hacker ally be able to save her? Or will he have to helplessly watch abuse go unpunished yet again?

Nathan Farrugia is in a class by himself. You can’t help but enjoy this adventure." ★★★★★ "What an amazing series. Plenty of action, thrills, gut-wrenching pace, cool weapons/gadgets and well written story." ★★★★★ "Can I give this book 10 stars? It kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last!" ★★★★★ "The Fifth Column series is a tour de force. This amazing series deserves a 5 star review." ★★★★★ "Really humorous, lots of action and the characters are so much fun. Loved it. Fast-paced, entertaining read." ★★★★★ "I picked up a copy of The Chimera Vector thinking it would be a standard adventure novel. I was wrong. From the sands of the Middle East to the streets of New York, Nathan Farrugia has taken the techno-action/spy novel pioneered by David Morrell and given it steroids." ★★★★★ "Farrugia weaves an amazing tale of power, deceit and double crosses. Espionage at its finest, intrigue that will tighten your gut and light every nerve on fire, The Chimera Vector goes far beyond science fiction and becomes a fast-paced mystery-thriller that defies early detection of where we are headed." ★★★★★ "This is going down as one of the best series I've read. And that's saying something. Filled with intense action with enough sci-fi and thriller to make me grin like I found the girl of my dreams." ★★★★★ "Loved it. High paced action thriller it definitely is. You think you know where it is going then the plot twists again. It really kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next." ★★★★★ "An excellent fast paced series that merges science, science fiction and adventure in one well written read that will make it impossible to put down." ★★★★★ "Oh. Wow. What a book. I found The Chimera Vector to be well written, thoroughly entertaining, and at times unbearably suspenseful. I was literally holding my breath." ★★★★★ "All the action that I really enjoyed in the first one and hoped would continue... the sequel blew that out of the ballpark. Amazing book, even better than the first, if that's possible! Love all the characters.” ★★★★★ “Be warned! This series is totally addictive. Don’t start this unless you’re ready for a wild action-packed ride." About the author Nathan M. Farrugia is an Australian technothriller writer, and author of the USA Today bestselling Helix and Fifth Column series. Nathan is known for placing himself in dangerous situations, including climbing rooftops in Russia and being hunted by special forces trackers in the United States. He studies Systema, a little-known martial art and former secret of Russian special forces. Beyond his army training, Nathan has trained under USMC, SEAL team, Spetsnaz and Defence Intelligence instructors, and the wilderness and tracking skills of the Chiricahua Apache scouts and Australian Aboriginals. Nathan is currently in Malta, co-writing the sequel to the critically acclaimed video game Metro Exodus by 4A Games. Also by Nathan M. Book excerpt: One of the first priority areas among joint East/West research programs is the rational use of natural resources and sustainable development of regions. In the boreal zone of North America and Eurasia forests are economically very important and, at the same time highly vulnerable to disturbances. Because of its size and ecological functions the boreal forest zone and its most dynamic disturbance factor - fire - play an important role in ecosystem processes on global scale. Interest within the global change research community in Northern Eurasia (Fennoscandia, European Russia, Siberia, and the Far East of Russia) has grown dramatically in the last few years. It is a vast area about which very little is known. It is a region where temperature rise due to anthropogenic climate forcing is predicted to be the greatest, and where the consequent feedbacks to the atmosphere are potentially large. In addition, it is poised to undergo rapid economic development, which may lead to large and significant changes to its land cover. Much of this interest in Northern Eurasia, as in the high latitude regions in general, is centerd on its role in the global carbon cycle, which is likely to be significantly affected under global change. New research initiatives between Western and Eastern countries have been designed to address a series of phenomena, problems and management solutions.

Book excerpt: "In the dark, bewildering, trap-infested jungle of misinformation and opaque riddles that is the world of investment, JL Collins is the fatherly wizard on the side of the path, offering a simple map, warm words of encouragement and the tools to forge your way through with confidence. You'll never find a wiser advisor with a bigger heart." -- Malachi Rempen: Filmmaker, cartoonist, author and self-described ruffian This book grew out of a series of letters to my daughter concerning various things-mostly about money and investing-she was not yet quite ready to hear. Since money is the single most powerful tool we have for navigating this complex world we've created, understanding it is critical. "But Dad," she once said, "I know money is important. I just don't want to spend my life thinking about it." This was eye-opening. I love this stuff. But most people have better things to do with their precious time. Bridges to build, diseases to cure, treaties to negotiate, mountains to climb, technologies to create, children to teach, businesses to run. Unfortunately, benign neglect of things financial leaves you open to the charlatans of the financial world. The people who make investing endlessly complex, because if it can be made complex it becomes more profitable for them, more expensive for us, and we are forced into their waiting arms. Here's an important truth: Complex investments exist only to profit those who create and sell them. Not only are they more costly to the investor, they are less effective. The simple approach I created for her and present now to you, is not only easy to understand and implement, it is more powerful than any other. Together we'll explore: Debt: Why you must avoid it and what to do if you have it. The importance of having F-you Money. How to think about money, and the unique way understanding this is key to building your wealth. Where traditional investing advice goes wrong and what actually works. What the stock market really is and how it really works. Why the stock market always goes up and why most people still lose money investing in it. How to invest in a raging bull, or bear, market. Specific investments to implement these strategies. The Wealth Building and Wealth Preservation phases of your investing life and why they are not always tied to your age. How your asset allocation is tied to those phases and how to choose it. How to simplify the sometimes confusing world of 401(k), 403(b), TSP, IRA and Roth accounts. TRFs (Target Retirement Funds), HSAs (Health Savings Accounts) and RMDs (Required Minimum Distributions). What investment firm to use and why the one I recommend is so far superior to the competition. Why you should be very cautious when engaging an investment advisor and whether you need to at all. Why and how you can be conned, and how to avoid becoming prey. Why I don't recommend dollar cost averaging. What financial independence looks like and how to have your money support you. What the 4% rule is and how to use it to safely spend your wealth. The truth behind Social Security. A Case Study on how this all can be implemented in real life. Enjoy the read, and the journey!

Book excerpt: Neufert's Architects' Data is an essential reference for the initial design and planning of a building project. It provides, in one concise volume, the core information needed to form the framework for the more detailed design and planning of any building project. Organised largely by building type, it covers the full range of preliminary considerations, and with over 6200 diagrams it provides a mass of data on spatial requirements. Most illustrations are dimensioned and each building type includes plans, sections, site layouts and design details. An extensive bibliography and a detailed set of metric/ imperial conversion tables are included. Since it was first published in Germany in 1936, Ernst Neufert's handbook has been progressively revised and updated through 39 editions and many translations. This fourth English language edition is translated from the 39th German edition, and represents a major new edition for an international, English speaking readership. Reviews of the Previous Edition: "Neufert's Architects' Data was the first book I bought when I started my studies in architecture. It was invaluable for me then and it is still a useful aid in my designs." —Cesar Pelli "With this thorough rewrite Neufert has produced yet again an invaluable reference book." —The Architects' Journal

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A highly illustrated study of the T-10 Heavy Tank that served from the 1950s through to the end of the Soviet Union. When it was introduced into service in 1953, the T-10 represented a return to the “classic” Soviet heavy tank. Although considered a major threat to NATO tank forces, it also represented the end of an era. All gun heavy tanks like the T-10 would eventually be made effectively redundant by later models like the T-62 which had powerful next generation armament and new ammunition types. The tank was gradually withdrawn from service in the 1970s, though the last tanks would only leave Russian service, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, in 1997. As such the T-10 outlived the Soviet state that had created it. Never exported outside of the Soviet Union and rarely used in combat, the T-10 has remained a mysterious tank, with many of its variants unknown in the West until very recently. This study, written from original Russian and Ukrainian primary source documents that have only recently been made available, uncovers the history of this enigmatic tank using 130 stunning contemporary and modern photographs of the T-10 as well as full colour side-view artwork.

Book excerpt: This book sets out the urgent changes to practices and behaviours required to build a new building safety regime in the UK and prevent a similar tragedy to the fire at Grenfell Tower from reoccurring. The inquiry into the fire and the independent Hackitt Review revealed deep-rooted and unpalatable truths about the current state of the UK construction industry. Dame Judith Hackitt was scathing in her assessment of the construction industry denouncing it as "an industry that has not reflected and learned for itself, nor looked to other sectors" and defining the key issues as ignorance, indifference, lack of clarity on roles and responsibilities and inadequate regulatory oversight and enforcement tools. Invaluable for all construction professionals who wish to take greater responsibility for the safety of residents in their buildings, this book explains why these major safety reforms are required, how they are to be achieved and the progress towards them to date.
