Book Synopsis Variability and Antifungal Activity of Botrytis Cinerea by : Md. Iqbal Hosen
Download or read book Variability and Antifungal Activity of Botrytis Cinerea written by Md. Iqbal Hosen and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The genus of Botrytis is a fungus that causes botrytis blight or gray mold fungal disease in much herbaceous plant. Botrytis has a several species and Botrytis cinerea is the most common among them. It can be epidemic when rainy, drizzly weather continues several days. It causes botrytis gray mold in chickpea resulted crop loss up to 95%. B. cinerea isolates were characterized in terms of cultural, morphological, physiological and pathogenic aspects and showed significantly variations on media. B. cinerea grew well at 20°C and pH 4.5, respectively. Luxuriant growth and the quickest sclerotia initiation were obtained on CDA medium. B. cinerea exhibited different reaction of highly susceptible to resistant to a set of chickpea cultivars. Among the 7 tested fungicides, Bavistin, CP-Zim, Sunphanate and Rovral were the most effective to inhibit the radial growth of B. cinerea at a lower concentration. This book would be helpful for the professional researchers, undergraduate and graduate students to determine the cultural, morphological, physiological and pathogenic variability of B. cinerea isolates and to make them some suggestions to the field levels for its appropriate management.
Book Synopsis A New Botrytis Species and Fungicide Resistance in Botrytis Cinerea by : Xingpeng Li
Download or read book A New Botrytis Species and Fungicide Resistance in Botrytis Cinerea written by Xingpeng Li and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The control of gray mold of small fruits, including blackberry, is caused primarily by Botrytis cinerea in commercial fields and is largely based on fungicide applications. The high risk of fungicide resistance development due to the single-site modes of action of many fungicides combined with the extraordinary genetic diversity of B. cinerea encouraged us to survey populations in South Carolina and neighboring states. A new species, Botrytis caroliniana, as well as the fungicide resistance profile and molecular resistant mechanism was discovered and described in this book.
Book Synopsis B. Cinerea Studies on Morphology and Resistance by : Ramzi Kazzi
Download or read book B. Cinerea Studies on Morphology and Resistance written by Ramzi Kazzi and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twelve Botrytis cinerea isolates were collected from three different hosts growing in different locations. Six of these isolates were collected from tomatoes, three from strawberries and one from squash, all crops growing under greenhouses. Two isolates were collected from squash, grown in open fields. The isolates were tested for their resistance to eight fungicides. Their mor-phological characteristics as produced on PDA amended with carbendazim, vinclozolin, thiometon; permethrin, lamdacyhalothrin, tribluralin, and metribuzin at various concentrations and on PDA fungicide-free media were recorded. The isolates showed some variations in their morphological characteristics when grown on PDA fungicide-free medium in comparison to those on PDA amended with fungicides. However, all variations in characteristics produced were within the limits of Botrytis cinerea species. A light intensity of 860 foot candles enhanced sporulation of all isolates incubated under light-dark conditions (12 hours on and 12 hours off) for a period of 12 days. In sensitivity screening tests, nine of the isolates were found to be resistant to the benzimidazoles benomyl and carbendazim-at 1,10 and 100 ppm, and the rest were sensitive. All the twelve isolates, however, were resistant to thiophanate methyl at 1,10 and 100 ppm. In vitro studies showed that all the isolates tolerated the dicarboximides iprodione, vinclozolin and procymidone .at 1 ppm but were inhibited at 10 and 100 ppm concentrations of the fungicide Similar results were obtained when testing the isolates on PDA amended with dicloran and chlozolinate at 1,10 and 100 ppm. Most of the resistant isolates produced high visual rating of sporulation on PDA amended with 1,10,100 and 1000 ppm carbendazim. On the other hand, low ratings were observed for formation of sclerotia especially with an increase in the conƠcentration of carbendazim. Growth of the isolates on media amended with sublethal concentrations of vinclozolin f 0.1, 0.01, 0.001 ppm) showed also high visual ratings of sporulation and low ratings of sclerotial formation, whereas sclerotia formation was completely inhibited on 1 ppm vinclozolin. Similarly, most of the twelve isolates showed high visual sporulation ratings and lower sclerotial formation ratings when grown on PDA amended with the insecticides permethrin, thiometon and lamydacyhalothrin or the herbicide trifluralin. The herbicide metribuzin had no major effect on the morphological characteristics of the pathogen.

This book was released on 2022-01-07 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gray mold or Botryotinia fuckeliana (de Bary) Whetzel (syn. Sclero-tinia fuckeliana (de Bary) Fuckel) (anamorph B. cinerea Pers.), ac-cording to taxonomic characteristics, belongs to the genus Botry-otinia (family Sclerotiniaceae) is a plant disease that is widespread wherever the vine is grown as an agricultural crop. This cosmopolitan fungus is a pathogen attacking over 200 plant species, including the grapevine (Jarvis, 1980). Members of Botrytis genus are generally necrotrophic pathogens they induce host cell death and lysis to access cellular nutrients.

Download or read book Fungal Pathology written by J.W. Kronstad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together twelve chapters on fungal pathogens with the goal of presenting an overview of the current areas of activity and the common themes that pervade research on these important organisms. The timing of the book is appropriate because we have gained sufficient insight from molecular genetic analyses to begin to make some comparisons between different fungal pathogens and to discuss the key advances that have been made. The chapters provide a broad survey of the important topics in fungal pathogenesis including morphogenesis, virulence, avirulence, and signaling. The reader also will fmd clear discussions of parasitism, mutualism, symbiosis, evolution, phylogeny and ecology for those fungi where these issues are especially important. Finally, many of the chapters in this book illustrate the fact that we are on the verge of a revolution in our understanding of fungal pathogens because of the application of genomics to these organisms and their hosts. The fungi included in this book represent many of the most intensively investigated fungal pathogens of plants; in this regard, a chapter is also included for pathogens in the Phytophthora group, even though these organisms are no longer classified as fungi. It is appropriate to include Phytophthora for historical reasons and, in addition, the insights in terms of pathogenesis and host-specific interactions are important to keep in mind when considering fungal pathogens. Chapters are also included on pathogens of insects and humans, as well as endophytic fungi.
