Book excerpt: Results for the experimental determination of vaporliquid equilibrium data in argon, oxygen, and nitrogen mixtures are presented. The experimental apparatus and procedures are described. The experimental data at 26, 23, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 atmosphere levels are presented. A correlation of our experimental data is made. Plots and tables of equilibrium constants, relative volatilities and activity coefficients are presented. Experimental and calculated results are compared and a comparison of the data to the literature is made. Analytical enthalpy data is presented. The correlation reproduces the experimental data with an error less than 2.5%; being worst at 20 atmospheres and best at 6 atmospheres. (Author).

Book excerpt: Three models are used to predict vapor-liquid-equilibrium (VLE) properties of binary and ternary mixtures of nitrogen, argon, and oxygen. These models predict mixture properties using accurate wide-range equations of state for the pure-fluid components of the mixture. One model uses extended corresponding states principles to predict mixture properties. The other tow models combine coefficients of terms from the equations of state for the components in the mixture to obtain coefficients for a single equation which calculates mixture propertied directly. Iteration methods to solve the VLE constraint equations for different input combinations are presented. Equilibrium pressures and vapor phase compositions predicted by the three models are compared to experimental values from P-T-x-y data measured over a wide range of equilibrium states. The computer programs for the calculations reported in this work are listed in the appendices.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, we have collected a series of reviews that cover both experimental and theoretical work geared toward the more exact requirements of current SFE applications. While we have artificially divided the volume into experimental and theoretical sections, natural overlaps will be apparent. Many of the papers on experimental and theoretical sections, natural overlaps will be apparent. Many of the papers on experimental technique contain discussions on equation of state correlations. Indeed, a good deal of the experimental work is intimately tied to a mathematical description of fluid mixtures. The theoretical section presents reviews that cover the modern theory of critical phenomena, methods to correlate near critical experimental results and approaches to understanding the behavior of near critical fluids from microscopic theory. It is hoped that the scope of these reviews will provide the reader with the basis to further develop our understanding of the behavior of supercritical fluids.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aquacultural, oceanographic, and fisheries engineering, as well as other disciplines, require gas solubility data to compute the equilibrium concentration. These calculations, for example, can affect the output of aquacultural production or assist in environmental consulting. Until now, published solubility information has not been available in a consistent and uniform manner in one location. This book presents solubility concentrations of major atmospheric gases (oxygen, nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide), noble gases (helium, neon, krypton, xenon), and trace gases (hydrogen, methane, nitrous oxide) as a function of temperature, salinity, pressure, and gas composition in a variety of formats. Data, equations, and theory are explained so that the user is able to understand the calculations and problems. Furthermore, data and solubility information are presented in a range of units to make them accessible across disciplines. This book will help the reader to look at a problem from a quantitative viewpoint and better understand carbonate chemistry. Revised from the earlier edition to include more accurate carbon dioxide tables and separate sections on the solubility of noble gases, trace gases, and oxygen in brines to provide a single resource for gas solubility data. This book is essential for all students and practitioners working in aquatic fields. A single source for highly accurate and comprehensive tables for gas solubility in aquatic systems Information provided in tables, equations, and computer programmes Theory is presented to better understand the equations and calculations
