Mas não é o jogo somente pela sua característica lúdica que assegura essa aprendizagem. é preciso que esse lúdico mobilize o interesse e o desejo de jogar. A ação lúdica e os seus 0efeitos sobre a aprendizagem e o desenvolvimento são algo que precisa ser planejado e intencional. Não se quer neste livro defender o jogo como uma panaceia, o remédio que pode "curar" os males que atingem o ensino de matemática. A proposta é de que, partindo dessas considerações sobre o jogo, possa-se ampliar a análise para outros recursos didáticos que auxiliem na organização educativa de modo geral.

O jogo possibilitou, de forma lúdica e prazerosa, identificar dúvidas e dificuldades que os alunos tinham em relação ao processo desses conteúdos. O primeiro critério considerado ao propor essa atividade foi o de ensinar Matemática de maneira lúdica aos alunos, visando despertar neles o gosto e o prazer em aprender e estudar essa ciência. Escolheu-se trabalhar com jogos justamente pelo fato de estes poderem proporcionar um ambiente diferente, um ambiente de competição, fator importante que estimula os alunos a se empenharem e se dedicarem, visando à vitória. Foram necessárias algumas considerações antes da escolha do projeto a ser desenvolvido, como levar em conta os conteúdos a serem trabalhados no período em que ele foi realizado. Mediante a leitura dos PCNs que trazem orientações para o ensino de Matemática, encontramos indicações que levam a refletir sobre o que temos planejado; uma delas apresenta a ideia de entender "aspectos novos no estudo dos números e operações, privilegiando o desenvolvimento do sentido numérico e a compreensão de diferentes significados das operações" (BRASIL, 1998, p. 60). E a outra mostra que os PCNs "destacam a importância do desenvolvimento do pensamento indutivo e dedutivo e oferecem sugestões de como trabalhar com explicações, argumentações e demonstrações" (BRASIL, 1998, p. 60). Frente a essas indicações, ao fim de muitas análises e reflexões, chegamos aos temas que seriam abordados, as operações básicas, resolução de problemas e alguns conteúdos específicos vistos até o sexto ano do ensino fundamental. Para executar essa ideia, foi utilizado como recurso didático um jogo conhecido como Jogo Planeta Matemático 2013, que posteriormente foi adaptado antes de ser proposto aos alunos em sala de aula, e nomeado como Jogo Missão Matemática.
