Sono stati creati degli strumenti metodologici per raccogliere le impressioni degli allievi sul rapporto valutazione sommativa/motivazione. I dati analizzati hanno mostrato che in generale i bambini vivono positivamente la nota, anche se chi ha delle difficoltà d'apprendimento la "teme" maggiormente. Per quel che riguarda il rapporto tra valutazione sommativa e motivazione, in generale si è rilevato che per gli allievi con un buon rendimento, esso influisce solo in parte sulla motivazione. I bambini più "deboli", sembrano invece influenzati negativamente forse perché con la valutazione sommativa vengono messe in risalto le loro lacune o incapacità. A partire da questa ricerca, è fondamentale continuare a interrogarsi sulla qualità della scuola, per poter garantire a tutti gli allievi di "vivere" in questo ambiente con motivazione. Si potrebbe scegliere un indicatore di qualità sulla valutazione formativa e vedere se quest'ultima ha un riscontro positivo sulla motivazione degli allievi, oppure si può focalizzare la propria ricerca su altri indicatori di qualità (stile d'insegnamento ). Un metodo per apportare adeguate modifiche è l'autovalutazione degli istituti scolastici. Questo processo permette di verificare la soddisfazione di tutti gli attori del sistema (allievi, docenti, genitori e società). A questo proposito la ricerca chiede agli allievi di una quinta elementare, per mezzo di 4 questionari e di alcune interviste, di spiegare se preferiscono una valutazione sommativa o formativa e per quale motivo. Una stretta maggioranza di allievi è soddisfatta della valutazione formativa perché permette di diventare consapevoli delle proprie competenze e di poterle migliorare. Tuttavia una buona parte di allievi preferisce una valutazione sommativa, soprattutto quelli che hanno un rendimento scolastico basso, perché questa è più semplice e comprensibile. Inoltre si constata che in generale i bambini vogliono ricevere le note poiché la valutazione sommativa è parte della tradizione. Per far sì che la valutazione formativa porti una qualità maggiore nel processo d'insegnamento-apprendimento è auspicabile, in veste di docente, praticarla correttamente e controllare continuamente i propri gesti quotidiani. Un possibile svilluppo di questo lavoro sarebbe quello di chiedere l'opinione, su questo argomento, anche agli altri attori della scuola. [Abstract a cura dell'autrice].

They are used to evaluate schools, to assign students to tracks within schools, and to identify weaknesses in student knowledge. The GED is an achievement test used to grant the status of high school graduate to anyone who passes it. GED recipients currently account for 12 percent of all high school credentials issued each year in the United States. But do achievement tests predict success in life? The Myth of Achievement Tests shows that achievement tests like the GED fail to measure important life skills. James J. Heckman, John Eric Humphries, Tim Kautz, and a group of scholars offer an in-depth exploration of how the GED came to be used throughout the United States and why our reliance on it is dangerous. Drawing on decades of research, the authors show that, while GED recipients score as well on achievement tests as high school graduates who do not enroll in college, high school graduates vastly outperform GED recipients in terms of their earnings, employment opportunities, educational attainment, and health. The authors show that the differences in success between GED recipients and high school graduates are driven by character skills. Achievement tests like the GED do not adequately capture character skills like conscientiousness, perseverance, sociability, and curiosity. These skills are important in predicting a variety of life outcomes. They can be measured, and they can be taught. Using the GED as a case study, the authors explore what achievement tests miss and show the dangers of an educational system based on them. They call for a return to an emphasis on character in our schools, our systems of accountability, and our national dialogue.
