Proper diagnosis of such problems is important for rehabilitation planning. Projective drawings are often used in clinical assessment, but their validity for this indication remains uncertain. This pilot study was conducted at a juvenile correctional facility in Southern Maine. The intent is to show that Koppitz's (1968) Human Figure Drawing (HFD) assessment correlates positively with problem behaviors as measured by Achenbach's Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL). Book excerpt: Controversy about the projective techniques specifically the Draw-a-person test has existed for many decades. Even currently some researches continue to be critical of human figure drawings as an assessment approach, suggesting that the majority of human figure drawings features appear to posses negligible validity. Despite the negative results of past studies and researchers of clinical drawing test, it remains to be surprisingly popular among mental health practitioners. This research was conducted to further validate the Draw-a-person test. Adolescents were administered three Psychometric test that measure anxiety and aggression. Twenty five respondents who got the highest scores and lowest scores on both tests were chosen as the subjects of the study. Protocols were scored by four psychologist based on the scoring index of Karen Machover. Result shows a high mean score concurrence of the five raters for the projective scoring. Findings reveal that there are elements in the DAP significantly correlated to high and low aggression and anxiety of psychometric test. Result shows that highly significant Machover aggression index includes "Strong and projecting chin", "Long and thin nose", "Arms are folded", "Fingers without hands", "Large figure", "Fists", "Pointed peaks in hair", "Pointed Shoes", and "Pointed hands". Moreover, Machover anxiety index that are highly significant includes "Shaded hair", "Small figure", 'Concealed hands/no hands", "Design in dress", "Lines in dress", and "Single line mouth". The DAP has long been considered an easy psychometric assessment of personality for children, adolescents, and adults. In the desire to include this test as additional tool, researchers continue to pursue investigations.
