Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Time-Limited Group Psychotherapy is a basic text designed for the clinician who already has experience in individual psychotherapy. However, the breadth of perspective and discussion of therapeutic strategies should be of value to the more experienced psychotherapist as well. The book is divided into four sections. ? Section One deals with basic concepts regarding the small group. This section should aid the therapist in accurately recognizing group phenomena. ? Section Two presents the applications of the theories concerning time-limited group psychotherapy in a clinical setting. It emphasizes the importance of careful diagnostic and interpersonal assessment, group composition considerations, and pretherapy preparation in ensuring that a sense of "groupness" will emerge promptly. ? Section Three shows how to use the emerging relationships among group members as the vehicle to manage individual issues. In both Sections Two and Three, the current literature concerning brief individual therapy is applied to the group context. ? Section Four offers guidelines for integrating group psychotherapy into service and training programs. Special consideration is given to inpatient groups and long-term support groups.

This book was released on 2021-01-30 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behavioral health conditions, which include mental health and substance use disorders, affect approximately 20 percent of Americans. Of those with a substance use disorder, approximately 60 percent also have a mental health disorder. As many as 80 percent of patients with behavioral health conditions seek treatment in emergency rooms and primary care clinics, and between 60 and 70 percent of them are discharged without receiving behavioral health care services. More than two-thirds of primary care providers report that they are unable to connect patients with behavioral health providers because of a shortage of mental health providers and health insurance barriers. Part of the explanation for the lack of access to care lies in a historical legacy of discrimination and stigma that makes people reluctant to seek help and also led to segregated and inhumane services for those facing mental health and substance use disorders. In an effort to understanding the challenges and opportunities of providing essential components of care for people with mental health and substance use disorders in primary care settings, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Forum on Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders convened three webinars held on June 3, July 29, and August 26, 2020. The webinars addressed efforts to define essential components of care for people with mental health and substance use disorders in the primary care setting for depression, alcohol use disorders, and opioid use disorders; opportunities to build the health care workforce and delivery models that incorporate those essential components of care; and financial incentives and payment structures to support the implementation of those care models, including value-based payment strategies and practice-level incentives. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussion of the webinars.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Group Therapy With Children and Adolescents explores a major treatment modality often used with adult populations but rarely considered for child and adolescent treatments. With contributions from experts in the United States and abroad, this book looks at the effectiveness -- in both treatment and cost -- of group therapy as it applies to these particular age groups. As psychiatric techniques have evolved, many varieties of group therapies have been developed and applied to child and adolescent psychiatry. Included in this book is an in-depth discussion not only of the theory and practice of group psychotherapy as used with children and adolescents, but also of the many varieties that have evolved as clinicians have sought new ways of tackling old problems. Include are chapters on adolescents with eating disorders, suicidal adolescents, and adolescents with drug problems. Inpatient, outpatient, education-oriented, and more traditional groups are all considered.
