This book was released on 2006-05-26 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical guide to semiconductor manufacturing from processcontrol to yield modeling and experimental design Fundamentals of Semiconductor Manufacturing and Process Controlcovers all issues involved in manufacturing microelectronic devicesand circuits, including fabrication sequences, process control, experimental design, process modeling, yield modeling, and CIM/CAMsystems. Readers are introduced to both the theory and practice ofall basic manufacturing concepts. Following an overview of manufacturing and technology, the textexplores process monitoring methods, including those that focus onproduct wafers and those that focus on the equipment used toproduce wafers. Next, the text sets forth some fundamentals ofstatistics and yield modeling, which set the foundation for adetailed discussion of how statistical process control is used toanalyze quality and improve yields. The discussion of statistical experimental design offers readers apowerful approach for systematically varying controllable processconditions and determining their impact on output parameters thatmeasure quality. The authors introduce process modeling concepts, including several advanced process control topics such asrun-by-run, supervisory control, and process and equipmentdiagnosis. Critical coverage includes the following: * Combines process control and semiconductor manufacturing * Unique treatment of system and software technology and managementof overall manufacturing systems * Chapters include case studies, sample problems, and suggestedexercises * Instructor support includes electronic copies of the figures andan instructor's manual Graduate-level students and industrial practitioners will benefitfrom the detailed exami?nation of how electronic materials andsupplies are converted into finished integrated circuits andelectronic products in a high-volume manufacturingenvironment. An Instructor's Manual presenting detailed solutions to all theproblems in the book is available from the Wiley editorialdepartment. An Instructor Support FTP site is also available.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1970s, Japan supplanted the United States as the world leader in steel production, automobile manufacturing, and consumer electronics. Are the Japanese poised to repeat these successes in the semiconductor industry? This question has vast potential significance, because semiconductor technology holds the key to competitiveness in high technology, one of America's last bastions of industrial supremacy. This book, the product of years of joint research by a multidisciplinary team of American and Japanese scholars, analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of each country's semiconductor industry with reference to three major areas: technological innovation; the role of government, not only in specific policies directed toward the semiconductor industry, but also in the broader context of industrial policy, government-business relations, and the two political systems; and the influence of financial institutions, ties between banks and businesses, and corporate financing. The book provides, in short, a broad yet in-depth analysis of emerging industrial competition in high technology between the world's two largest market economies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Having learned hard lessons about the consequences of critical supply chain disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States government is even more emboldened to strengthen the microelectronics supply chain. As President Biden stated on February 24, 2021, when addressing U.S. supply chain security, "The United States must ensure that production shortages, trade disruptions, natural disasters and potential actions by foreign competitors and adversaries never leave the United States vulnerable again." The manufacturing of semiconductors is deeply entwined in complex, global supply chains. This puts the U.S. at risk of an overreliance on overseas production for these critical components - in particular, on Taiwanese and other Asian manufacturers. Foreign adversaries like China and Russia are increasingly persistent and creative in their efforts to exploit our economic and national security vulnerabilities. Thankfully, the lack of semiconductor manufacturing capacity in the U.S. is both explainable and addressable. To attract new fabrication plants to the U.S., Congress has introduced legislation containing new incentives to counter subsidies provided in competing countries. Additionally, incentives would provide domestic, leading-edge foundries the ability to supply our Department of Defense, critical infrastructure, and essential commercial needs. Lobbyists and interest groups have been engaging Congress in hopes to carve out a piece of the more than $50 billion in potential funding. The U.S.'s outsized reliance on foreign semiconductor production presents an unacceptable supply chain vulnerability. Such reliance poses an undue risk to the national security and resiliency of United States' critical infrastructure."--Abstract.
