Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a treatise on vigilance; compliance and anti-corruption. It is based on empirical and realistic approach to the subject; with some interpretations from ancient wisdoms. The book will be of interest to bureaucrats and senior managers in government; public and private sectors; and to political practitioners and policy-makers. Vigilance is founded on the premise that honesty is the best policy. But; at times; it appears counter intuitive and not borne out from the real-life experiences. If vigilance were so easy to comprehend and unconditionally acceptable; then perhaps there would have been no need to teach vigilance; or write any book on it. It would have been instinctive. All of us would have just followed the dogma. There are four types of corruption: 1. Tribute 2. Coercive corruption 3. Collusive corruption 4. Mass indoctrination Vigilance authorities concentrate on curbing tributes and coercive corruptions; but collusive corruptions and mass indoctrinations are far more lethal and damaging. The book emphasizes on these two later forms of corruption.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of immigration in Britain has become a dark minefield especially for asylum-seekers and irregular migrants. This is as a result of arbitrary changes in legislation and probably the politics of Brexit. Unsettled migrants, it seems, are completely at the mercy of the Home Office decision-makers - because the Home Office simply change the immigration rules when it does not like the answers the courts are giving. The current bureaucracy is hostile, cynical and hardened to every sob story under the sun. Arbitrary policies tear apart families and ruin lives. The treadmill of unfair bureaucratic decisions is a direct result of a relentless drive towards unrealistic migration caps that don't take real lives into account. Indeed, there are ever so many ways in which these faceless bureaucrats ride roughshod over the rights and legitimate expectation of migrants. It is hoped that this essay will do something to lessen the heavily tilted playing field on which migrants and their representatives must contend.

This book was released on 2018-04-03 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access monograph provides sociological insight into governmental action on the administration of asylum in the European context. It offers an in-depth understanding of how decision-making officials encounter and respond to structural contradictions in the asylum procedure produced by diverging legal, political, and administrative objectives. The study focuses on structural aspects on the one hand, such as legal and organisational elements, and aspects of agency on the other hand, examining the social practices and processes going on at the frontside and the backside of the administrative asylum system. Coverage is based on a case study using ethnographic methods, including qualitative interviews, participant observation, as well as artefact analysis. This case study is positioned within a broader context and allows for comparison within and beyond the European system, building a bridge to the international scientific community. In addition, the author links the empirical findings to sociological theory. She explains the identified patterns of social practice in asylum administration along the theories of social practices, social construction and structuration. This helps to contribute to the often missing theoretical development in this particular field of research. Overall, this book provides a sociological contribution to a key issue in today's debate on immigration in Europe and beyond. It will appeal to researchers, policy makers, administrators, and practitioners as well as students and readers interested in immigration and asylum.
