They talked about their visits, phone calls and the letters they share with their mom. Mahiya spoke about how uncomfortable she was discussing her mom with others. She said they were teased at school when their mom first went to prison. I promised them I would continue to stay in touch and was very happy they were in my life. We continued to communicate over the summer and the rest is history! The stigma that a child carries when their parent is incarcerated, is far too much for any child to deal with.
