Education is a people-driven profession, yet there is a beauty of balancing technical leadership with adaptive leadership, which is no easy task. There is no “rule book” to leadership; however, this book is to learn about being “unsupervised” and how new age leadership can create stability and enhance professionalism throughout an ever changing educational environment. Unsupervised Leadership is a practical, tangible, entertaining and REAL way of assessing yourself as a leader, while building your confidence, facing your fears, and elevating others around you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thirty-three years and through three editions, Bass & Stogdill's Handbook of Leadership has been the indispensable bible for every serious student of leadership. Since the third edition came out in 1990, the field of leadership has expanded by an order of magnitude. This completely revised and updated fourth edition reflects the growth and changes in the study of leadership over the past seventeen years, with new chapters on transformational leadership, ethics, presidential leadership, and executive leadership. Throughout the Handbook, the contributions from cognitive social psychology and the social, political, communications, and administrative sciences have been expanded. As in the third edition, Bernard Bass begins with a consideration of the definitions and concepts used, and a brief review of some of the betterknown theories. Professor Bass then focuses on the personal traits, tendencies, attributes, and values of leaders and the knowledge, intellectual competence, and technical skills required for leadership. Next he looks at leaders' socioemotional talents and interpersonal competencies, and the differences in these characteristics in leaders who are imbued with ideologies, especially authoritarianism, Machiavellianism, and self-aggrandizement. A fuller examination of the values, needs, and satisfactions of leaders follows, and singled out for special attention are competitiveness and the preferences for taking risks. In his chapters on personal characteristics, Bass examines the esteem that others generally accord to leaders as a consequence of the leaders' personalities. The many theoretical and research developments about charisma over the past thirty years are crucial and are explored here in depth. Bass has continued to develop his theory of transformational leadership -- the paradigm of the last twenty years -- and he details how it makes possible the inclusion of a much wider range of phenomena than when theory and modeling are limited to reinforcement strategies. He also details the new incarnations of transformational leadership since the last edition. Bass has greatly expanded his consideration of women and racial minorities, both of whom are increasingly taking on leadership roles. A glossary is included to assist specialists in a particular academic discipline who may be unfamiliar with terms used in other fields. Business professors and students, executives in every industry, and politicians at all levels have relied for years on the time-honored guidance and insight afforded by the Handbook.

Book excerpt: This volume’s essays are an ecumenical ensemble of the best scholars and leading practitioners in the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements from all four corners of the world. The contributors bring together various denominational perspectives and dialogue for understanding the present momentum of these Spirit movements in the world church. Their diverse methodologies transverse the traditional and new approaches to studying these movements. Pointing the way forward, the authors highlight some of the lessons learned in their scholarly engagement with Spirit movements. These lessons offer significant insight and viewpoints for the academy in the historical analysis of these movements. They also serve as a good guide for pastoral discernment and accompaniment for God’s people in their daily lives, as well as for social ministries in the world church. This volume addresses questions of salvation and eschatology, health and healing, prosperity and poverty, suffering and death, fear and faith, despair and hope. Other topics include the conflict between charism and institution and the tension between cultic clericalism and the affirmation and use of the gifts and talents of lay members of Christ’s faithful in the church.

This book was released on 2021-02-05 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For hundreds of years, different leadership theories have been explored to try to explain exactly how and why certain people become great leaders. Research spans a discussion of personality traits, the characteristics of the situation at hand, and qualifications of the leader to try to determine what causes people to become more likely than others to take charge. This can be in various settings: CEOs, presidents and prime ministers, managing directors, governors, senators, head coaches, and more. Through the examination of first-time leadership, new theories and ideas on leadership are explored. The Handbook of Research on Innate Leadership Characteristics and Examinations of Successful First-Time Leaders is a comprehensive reference source that focuses on what qualities distinguish first-time leadership from traditional leaders, while furthering leadership theories that look at other variables such as situational factors, knowledge base, skill levels, etc. It reviews the various approaches used by first-time leadership and how each of them uniquely approaches effective leadership, key outcomes, and the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. Furthermore, it distinguishes between the traditional route for leadership, the gradual moving up of an individual over time to higher positions, and a first-time leadership in which an individual begins right away in a position without climbing the professional ladder. This book will attempt to draw lessons from existing first-time leadership experience and provide evidence for the appropriateness of such a route to leadership. Topics highlighted include transformational leadership, political leaders, ethical and unethical leadership, and leadership development. This book is ideal for young professionals, leaders, executives, managers, graduate students, practitioners, government officials, researchers, academicians, and students.

There are many leadership positions in the fire service, but not all of them are held by leaders. Leadership has very little to do with the color of your helmet, the bling on your collar, the stripes on your sleeve, the title on your door, the order of march, or the crease in your pants. Full-contact leadership is a commitment to drawing out the very best within others and allowing the very best in others to be expressed as excellence. Full-contact leadership is a career-long, ever-challenging, never-ending, self-initiated, self-sustained personal research, development, and improvement program. Full-contact leadership is never about you; it’s always about them. In Full-Contact Leadership, Chiefs Flood and Avillo examine what makes a leader and, more importantly, what makes a leader effective in today’s fire service. This text discusses the various types of leaders, how they communicate, discipline, delegate, motivate, and set expectations for the people they lead. Flood and Avillo also take a hard look at what hinders or blocks effective leadership and what steps to take to foster and instill leadership in your department.

Book excerpt: Designed specifically to develop students' understanding of leadership in a variety of contexts, and assuming no prior experience of leadership in the business world, this book is a must-read for students embarking on their study of leadership, while thinking ahead to their own future employment. The book is divided into two clear parts to logically guide the reader through the key theoretical models of leadership, as well as the issues and themes that surround the subject. Part 1 examines the main theories in the field, including situational and contingency theories, behavioural models, and trait theory, while Part 2 draws on a number of different themes to add depth to the theoretical ideas discussed, such as diversity, power, and ethics. To help to interpret the key theories, the book also illustrates leadership in action using a wealth of diverse case studies, 50% of which are new for this third edition. Examples have been carefully selected to highlight the practical application of leadership theory, both in a formal business context and in everyday life, and to dispel the common misconception for students new to leadership that it is only for the 'great and good'. A broad variety of case studies are included from the world of politics, entertainment, food and sport; these include Boris Johnson, the Spice Girls, Cadbury, and Lance Armstrong. These case studies explore leadership across a variety of contexts and cultures, giving students the broad perspective they need to consider the subject critically. Pause for thought boxes and self-test questionnaires encourage students to reflect on the theories and practices they've learned about and how such concepts and issues might apply in their own approach to leadership. Together with the lively writing style, stimulating case studies, and further learning features, this allows students to fully engage with the subject and use the book as an essential tool in their leadership studies.New to this editionAdded coverage on technological developments (such as virtual treams, AI, Big Data, VR/AR) and the impact on leadership practice.Revised case studies include contemporary figures and events such as PewDiePie, Jacinda Arden, the Spice Girls and Boris Johnson. The content is now further balanced to reflect both 'good' and 'bad' leadership styles, with new coverage on the negative or 'dark side' of leadership included in chapters 2, 6 and 11.A new online test bank resource increases the variety of ways in which lecturers can assess student knowledge. This title is available as an eBook. Book excerpt: Most economists agree that AI is a general purpose technology (GPT) like the steam engine, electricity, and the computer. AI will drive innovation in all sectors of the economy for the foreseeable future. Practical AI for Business Leaders, Product Managers, and Entrepreneurs is a technical guidebook for the business leader or anyone responsible for leading AI-related initiatives in their organization. The book can also be used as a foundation to explore the ethical implications of AI. Authors Alfred Essa and Shirin Mojarad provide a gentle introduction to foundational topics in AI. Each topic is framed as a triad: concept, theory, and practice. The concept chapters develop the intuition, culminating in a practical case study. The theory chapters reveal the underlying technical machinery. The practice chapters provide code in Python to implement the models discussed in the case study. With this book, readers will learn: The technical foundations of machine learning and deep learning How to apply the core technical concepts to solve business problems The different methods used to evaluate AI models How to understand model development as a tradeoff between accuracy and generalization How to represent the computational aspects of AI using vectors and matrices How to express the models in Python by using machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn, statsmodels, and keras
