Book Synopsis Photomedicine in Gynecology and Reproduction by : Pius Wyss
Download or read book Photomedicine in Gynecology and Reproduction written by Pius Wyss and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2000 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The photodynamic technique involves the administration of a photosensitizer followed by application of laser light. When light interacts intracellularly with the photosensitizer, the photon energy absorbed by the sensitizing molecule mainly generates photooxidation for tissue destruction or fluorescence for diagnostics. Photomedical techniques provide a minimally invasive, ambulatory procedure in gynecology, not needing anesthetics. A history of photomedicine explains the main elements and mechanisms of photomedical techniques. One of the main chapters is dedicated to the biochemical and biophysical aspects of photomedicine such as characterization of photosensitizers, their interaction with light, their destruction, the optical dosimetry and optical properties of tissues. The clinical part of this book summarizes the state-of-the-art activity in all major gynecologic applications, from cervix to breast, and provides the reader with an understanding of photodynamic therapy and basic mechanisms. Photon-assisted reproduction, e.g. laser-assisted fertilization, embryo hatching and prenatal diagnosis, makes up the final chapters. Belonging in every hospital or university library, this book underscores why photomedicine appeals to such a broad spectrum of students, basic scientists, clinicians, and members of the corporate world.

Book Synopsis Plant-derived Bioactives by : Mallappa Kumara Swamy
Download or read book Plant-derived Bioactives written by Mallappa Kumara Swamy and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-11 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plants produce a vast number of bioactive compounds with different chemical scaffolds, which modulate a diverse range of molecular targets and are used as drugs for treating numerous diseases. Most present-day medicines are derived either from plant compounds or their derivatives, and plant compounds continue to offer limitless reserves for the discovery of new medicines. While different classes of plant compounds, like phenolics, flavonoids, saponins and alkaloids, and their potential pharmacological applications are currently being explored, their curative mechanisms are yet to be understood in detail. This book is divided into 2 volumes and offers detailed information on plant-derived bioactive compounds, including recent research findings. Volume 1, Plant-derived Bioactives: Chemistry and Mode of Action, discusses the chemistry of highly valued plant bioactive compounds and their mode of actions at the molecular level. Volume 2, Plant-derived Bioactives: Production, Properties and Therapeutic Applications, explores the sources, biosynthesis, production, biological properties and therapeutic applications of plant bioactives. Given their scope, these books are valuable resources for members of the scientific community wishing to further explore various medicinal plants and the therapeutic applications of their bioactive compounds. They appeal to scholars, teachers and scientists involved in plant product research, and facilitate the development of innovative new drugs.

Book Synopsis The Spectra and Structures of Simple Free Radicals by : Gerhard Herzberg
Download or read book The Spectra and Structures of Simple Free Radicals written by Gerhard Herzberg and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Authoritative and clearly written."—Applied Optics The direct observation of short-lived free radicals and the consequent study of their structure and reactions have led to important developments in almost every branch of chemistry as well as in other areas. This volume by a Nobel laureate offers an excellent introduction to the essentials of molecular spectroscopy. The introductory chapter discusses experimental methods and illustrates the observed spectra of various molecules and free radicals. Subsequent chapters explore rotational, vibrational, and electronic energy levels of diatomic molecules and ions; radiative transitions; linear and nonlinear polyatomic radicals and ions; continuous and diffuse spectra; predissociation and pre-ionization; and recombination. The well-illustrated text features more than 100 figures and spectra. A distilled version of the author's monumental three-volume study, Molecular Spectra and Molecular Structure, it constitutes a superb resource for anyone wishing a concise but complete treatment of the fundamentals of molecular spectroscopy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall composition of the atmosphere is very consistent all around the world as a result of the high degree of mixing that takes place inside the atmosphere. This is due to the high quantity of mixing that occurs constantly throughout the atmosphere. The rotation of the Earth, which contributes to the mixing, causes the mixing to occur in a manner that may be thought of as horizontal. This is because the rotation of the Earth adds to the mixing. The warming of the surface of the Earth, which is generated by the radiation that comes from the sun, is the primary contributor to the phenomenon that is known as vertical mixing. Even though the rate of mixing in the oceans is much slower than the rate of mixing in the atmosphere, even this rate is sufficient to ensure that the overall composition of the seas stays essentially the same. Even though the rate of mixing in the atmosphere is much faster than the rate of mixing in the oceans, A parallel may be drawn between this and the way the atmosphere works. Having said that, certain regions of the atmosphere are not as well mixed as others, and it is in these areas that comparatively large variations in the bulk composition may be observed. These regions are comprised of: Convection, which occurs in the troposphere (Fig. 1.2), is responsible for the vast mixing of gases and particles that takes place there. This mixing is made possible by the fact that the troposphere is the lowest layer of the atmosphere. Convective driving forces are always present in the atmosphere, and the most evident representation of these forces is in the form of thunderstorms. The surface of the Earth is heated by solar radiation, which in turn warms the air directly above it, which in turn produces convective mixing. Temperatures fall with increasing height in the troposphere

Download or read book Aromatic C-nitroso Compounds written by Hrvoj Vančik and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to collect and review the research covering main directions in investigations of aromatic nitroso compounds in last decades, and to present both, the academic aspects of this chemistry, as well as the open field of its applicability. The book is divided in five chapters. The basic structural properties of the nitroso aromatic molecules are described in the first chapter. The second chapter is an overview of the methods of preparations of aromatic nitroso and polynitroso compounds, including classical synthetic methods and some new preparative approaches. The third part deals with the physico-chemical properties of nitroso aromates and azodioxides, its structure, crystallography, quantum chemical calculations, spectroscopy, typical reactions, and especially it is focused on the dimerizations in the solid-state. In the fourth chapter is represented organometallic chemistry of nitroso aromatic molecules and its applications in catalysis. The last part of the book deals with the behavior of this class of compounds in the biological systems, reactions with biomolecules and the use in toxicology.
