Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My journey is documented in this two-volume book numbers 14th and 15th of my series “Christianity and the Human Brain”. My journey is a testimony to Lord Jesus who took me by the hand from being a dismal soul to a renown neurosurgeon and anesthesiologist through a dream I had in 1974 with his words: “Son study all these books in my hand and I shall bless you and bless your patients”. Today, 35 years later, I continue to dedicate my life to my Lord, my patients and the residents I mentor. The fulfillment of my joy is when my Almighty helps me to care for my patients and guides my hand in both neurosurgery and the teaching of coming generations. There are many stories and reflections to share with you. Lessons learned in various topics. It is my honor to share with you my journey and my Joy. The two volume books contain 181 chapters, distributed in twenty sections (ten in each volume) covering major highlights in my life journey. In addition to deep reflections from my own life stories in faith and medicine, topics include Jesus, love, patient care, the human brain, neurosurgery, illness, residents, healthcare crises, meditations and memories over four decades. I hope you, the reader, to take the positives of my journey and find it useful to your own journey as a participant sojourning in this world with me. Blessed are those striving early on in their life to serve our Savior Jesus Christ, to him is the glory for ever and ever, Amen.

How choices made for the wrong reason can affect our lives forever. It is about the division between ego and spirit or human and soul, for it is our ego that makes us human and our spirit that makes our soul. Only when our ego dies can unconditional love be fulfilled as our spirit takes its place. It is the story of two ego-based humans who broke down their egos and found their souls with divine intervention. A love that exists here and there. How the signs are there waiting for you to see them. How when you do begin noticing them, you will get more and more assurance that we never end and the only thing that dies is the ego.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How is human love deformed in sexual addiction? How can human love be transformed? David Bellusci considers three signs of addiction and then, by looking at neurotic tendencies within a psychoanalytical framework, as well as the neurobiological nature of sexual pleasure, explores the causes of sexual addiction. Behavioral expression of addiction is examined in pornography, masturbation, cybersex, and multiple sexual partners. Working within a Christian anthropology drawn from Thomas Aquinas, Bellusci considers the morality of pleasure; how pleasure suggests an antinomy of satisfaction-dissatisfaction. He explores how the fallen human condition effects the will, and the consent to sin. He concludes with a focus on how the addict may be supported, at the psychological, relational, and spiritual levels.

Book excerpt: From Jacqueline Jackson, wife of Jesse Jackson, role model, and civil rights veteran, comes an inspiring gift of love to a child in his darkest hour—and a lesson to everyone who has been touched by the scourge of mass incarceration. Jacqueline Jackson promised her son, Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr., that she would write him every day during his incarceration in prison while he served his thirty-month sentence. This book is an inspiring and moving selection of the letters she wrote him. Together, they comprise a powerful act of love—nurturing and ministering to her son's heart, health, and mind and maintaining his essential connection with home. Frank, anecdotal, imbued with faith, and sometimes humorous, they offer intimate details from the family’s daily life, along with news of friends and the community and glimpses of such figures as Nelson Mandela, Winnie Mandela, and Mayor Marion Barry. They also touch eloquently on issues of social justice, politics, and history, as when Mrs. Jackson recalls growing up in Jim Crow Florida, and they reflect the qualities, instilled by her own mother, that made her a role model for much of her life. Ultimately, these letters offer a blueprint for why we have to support our families not just as they elevate but when they fall. This collection is Mrs. Jackson's contribution to healing during a time when our prisons are full and our communities are suffering. She provides the road map for ensuring that the individuals serving sentences understand that prison is where they are, not who they are and for helping them sustain the courage to keep hope alive.

Book excerpt: How many Christian "school teachers" are fully familiar with God's biblical mandates for their vocation? School teachers inherently hold a powerful influence over students, for good or bad. This sobering reality should motivate all school administrators, especially in Christian schools, to ensure that their teachers are spiritually qualified. Academic qualifications for teachers are essential, but spiritual qualifications are critical for meeting the biblical goals of education. In fact, it is the spiritual motivation and qualification of teachers that should be the greatest area of concern during the process of selecting faculty members to serve in Christian schools. Veteran teacher and Christian counselor Hooper offers twenty-one defining principles that separate Christian teachers from those who are not Christian. Do today's school teachers make the grade? This book is a must read for all who aspire to serve God effectively in the school classroom. Duane Hooper is a school teacher, principal, ordained minister, and board certified Christian counselor. His ministry was providentially redirected from the pastorate to education in 1990 when he began serving as teacher at Bay Area Christian School in League City, Texas. While serving as teacher and junior high principal, his passion for Christian education intensified. Concerning the influence held by teachers, especially in light of Christ's love for children, Duane was burdened regarding the need for Christian teachers to model not just Spiritual fruit, but Christ's express love for children. Duane's love for students is manifested in his several nominations to Who's Who Among America's Teachers. With both masters and doctoral degrees in Christian education and a Ph.D. in Christian Counseling, Duane has an ardent passion to share what he believes to be a Bible-based vision for the ministries of Christian school teachers-whether serving in Christian or public schools.

It describes the old traditional method dog hunters of the South used to supply food for their families. It is more than just a true hunting account. It speaks about the character and love of a traditional Southern family moved from the land they loved by eminent domain to serve the nation in a time of war. It speaks about values long lost in a modern selfish and indulgent society. It speaks about the powerful influence a man of character can have for his children and his grandchildren. The book introduces this family and its setting for a memorial in the appendix.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does putting your smartphone on the dinner table impact your relationships? How does where you place your TV in your home affect your family? The Stuff of Family Life takes readers inside the changing world of families through a unique examination of their stuff. From digital family photo albums to the growing popularity of “man caves,” author Michelle Janning looks at not only what large demographic studies say about family dynamics but also what our lives—and the stuff in them—say about how we relate to each other. The book takes readers through various phases of family life, including dating, marriage, parenting, divorce, and aging, while paying attention to how our choices about our spaces and objects impact our lives. Janning has joked, “I'm not a social scientist who uses large national datasets to illustrate family life; I’m the social scientist who asks people to examine what’s in their underwear drawers to tell stories about their family life.” From underwear drawers to calendars, The Stuff of Family Life offers an illuminating and entertaining look at the complexities of American families today.

This book was released on 2023-10-11 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is common knowledge that the television series Game of Thrones and revenge go together well, but whether Game of Thrones and feminism are compatible is debatable, to say the least. This book shows how the series’ female characters in particular utilise revenge to acquire autonomy, fight objectification, and pursue equality. On the one hand, they do so by mirroring the female characters of English Renaissance Revenge Tragedies. On the other, prevailing feminist ideas of the 21st century are also incorporated. The resulting tension between models from the Renaissance and current feminist impulses allows for an interpretation of Game of Thrones as a contemporary, feminist version of a Revenge Tragedy. Thus, this book discusses gender, equality, and representation, problematising the heteronormative, binary perspective so commonly given on the series. As such, the book is for everyone interested in popular culture and its influences and developments, both fans and critics of the show, feminists, and those who aspire to educate themselves.
