Approximately 50% of chapters are authored by university faculty who are members of NEFA; approximately 25% of chapters are authored by state department of education officials and/or state school board association officials; and the remaining 25% of chapters are authored by ASBO affiliate states. Each chapter contains information about: • Each state’s aid formula background; • Basic support program description and operation (the state aid formula) including how school aid is apportioned (e.g., state appropriations, local tax contributions, cost share ratios, and more); • Supplemental funding options relating to how school districts raise funds attached to or above the regular state aid scheme; • Compensatory programs operated in school districts and how those are funded and aided; • Categorical programs operated in school districts and how those are funded and aided; • Any funding supports for transportation operations; • Any funding supports for physical facilities and operations; and • Other state aids not covered in the above list.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have long been a number of “introduction to law” textbooks (primarily aimed at non-American lawyers) and, more recently, textbooks dealing with legislation and regulation. American Legal Process is perhaps the only work since the creation of Henry M. Hart, Jr. & Albert M. Sacks’ iconic legal process materials to include extended discussions not only of those topics, but also of the judicial process. The Second Edition represents a continuation of and improvement on the first edition. There is no other law textbook quite like it. New to the 2nd Edition: Reorganization along the lines of the three branches of the U.S. government (legislative, executive, and judicial) and Articles I, II, and III of the U.S. Constitution An increase in the number of chapters from four to 13 (including an introductory chapter) to enhance readability and comprehension New/expanded discussions of current topics in Legal Process, including amicus curiae practice; the use of cameras in the courtroom; corpus linguistics; decisional methodology; sua sponte decision making; and the use of foreign law Professors and students will benefit from: Increases in content through an expanded use of notes Plain, readable text; very straightforward presentation Fascinating subject matter

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To visiting geologists, Black Rock, New Mexico, is a basaltic escarpment and an ideal natural laboratory. To hospital workers, Black Rock is a picturesque place to earn a living. To the Zuni, the mesas, arroyos, and the rock itself are a stage on which the passion of their elders is relived. William A. Dodge explores how a shared sense of place evolves over time and through multiple cultures that claim the landscape. Through stories told over many generations, this landscape has given the Zuni an understanding of how they came to be in this world. More recently, paleogeographers have studied the rocks and landforms to better understand the world as it once was. Archaeologists have conducted research on ancestral Zuni sites in the vicinity of Black Rock to explore the cultural history of the region. In addition, the Anglo-American employees of the Bureau of Indian Affairs came to Black Rock to advance the federal Indian policy of assimilation and brought with them their own sense of place. Black Rock has been an educational complex, an agency town, and an Anglo community. Today it is a health care center, commercial zone, and multiethnic subdivision. By describing the dramatic changes that took place at Black Rock during the twentieth century, Dodge deftly weaves a story of how the cultural landscape of this community reflected changes in government policy and how the Zunis themselves, through the policy of Indian self-determination, eventually gave new meanings to this ancient landscape.
