Dazu geht er auf die verschiedenen Erscheinungsformen, Risiken, der kulturellen Tradition - speziell bei türkischen Migrantinnen - und den Auswirkungen auf das Opfer ein und erläutert am Ende die Inanspruchnahme von institutioneller Hilfe und Unterstützung. Seit Bestehen der Menschheit gehört die Gewalt zu einem etablierten Bestandteil unserer Gesellschaft und ist gleichzeitig ein gesellschaftlich hoch brisantes Thema. Dabei werden gesellschaftliche Reaktionen und politische Maßnahmen über die Berichterstattung der Medien beeinflusst und nehmen wiederum Einfluss auf die familien-, gesellschafts-, kriminal- und genderpolitischen Diskurse. So wandelte sich auch das Phänomen „häusliche Gewalt“ erst durch die öffentliche Thematisierung von der Privatsphäre zu einem öffentlichen/sozialen Problem. Zuvor herrschte die heute unvorstellbare Selbstverständlichkeit, dass Männer einen Machtanspruch auf ihre Frauen und Kinder völlig legitim ausüben konnten. Erst mit der Frauenbewegung Anfang der 70er Jahre setzte ein Umdenken ein; die Gesellschaft nahm Gewaltanwendungen im familiären Kontext nicht mehr länger hin. Gewalt ist heute nicht nur ein strafrechtlicher Tatbestand, sondern auch gesellschaftlich unerwünscht. Sie stellt zudem einen Verstoß gegen das Grundrecht in Bezug auf die Würde, Gleichheit und den Zugang zur Justiz dar. Erst 1997 wurde u. a. die Vergewaltigung in der Ehe gemäß § 177 StGB unter Strafe gestellt. Dennoch wurden 2012 laut dem Führungs- und Informationssystem der Polizei 29.021 Fälle im Zusammenhang mit häuslicher Gewalt zu einer Strafanzeige gebracht.

Wissenschaftliche Studien belegen, dass allein in Deutschland jede vierte Frau mindestens einmal in ihrem Leben von ihrem Partner sexuell oder körperlich misshandelt wurde. Die Bundesregierung stellte bereits im Jahr 1990 fest, dass Gewalt in Familien die am häufigsten ausgeübte Gewalt in unserer Gesellschaft ist. Gerade deshalb gibt es mittlerweile mehr als 350 Frauenhäuser in Deutschland. Diese geben an, dass dort jährlich etwa 45.000 Frauen mit ihren Kindern Zuflucht suchen. Sie suchen Zuflucht vor ihren Ehemännern. Die Polizei geht von einem großen Dunkelfeld im Bereich der häuslichen Gewalt aus, denn viele Frauen wenden sich nicht an die Polizei oder andere Hilfsorganisationen. Frauen werden in ihrem eigenen Zuhause von ihren Lebenspartnern auf massive Art und Weise unterdrückt und misshandelt. Doch selten finden die betroffenen Frauen einen Ausweg aus dieser Situation. In den 90er Jahren kam es zu gesetzlichen Änderungen, die fortan körperliche Gewalt gegen Frauen nicht mehr als hausherrliche Gewalt behandelten, sondern künftig strafrechtlich verfolgten. Unter anderem wurde in das Recht auf sexuelle Selbstbestimmung im Jahre 1997 auch die Ehe eingeschlossen. Der Gesetzgeber nahm die Vergewaltigung innerhalb der Ehe in den §177 Strafgesetzbuch auf und stellte sie der Vergewaltigung außerhalb der Ehe in einem Straftatbestand gleich. Vor dem Hintergrund dieses Sachverhaltes stellt sich die Frage, auf welche Ursachen zurückgeführt werden kann, dass Frauen so häufig über Jahre hinweg in einer Beziehung leben können, in der sie beinahe täglich Gewalt erfahren, ohne sich aus dieser Situation zu befreien. Ebenso stellt sich die Frage, welche Phasen die Frau durchlebt, bis sie letztendlich als Opfer von häuslicher Gewalt bezeichnet werden kann. Dies soll das Thema dieser Bachelorarbeit darstellen. Die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit sollen dazu dienen, Polizeibeamte, andere Interessierte und ebenso Betroffene für das Handeln oder auch Nicht-Handeln dieser Frauen zu sensibilisieren. Es soll die Möglichkeit geschaffen werden die facettenreichen Gründe für ihre Situation zu verstehen und dadurch entsprechend sensibel und mit „geöffneten Augen“ den Dienst zu versehen und Signale aus dem näheren Umfeld zu erkennen, um so sachgerecht, gründlich und sensibel intervenieren zu können.
