Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People have differing beliefs about the existence of a sovereign God. For most of us, the belief in a God gives assurance in spite of questions about our life that we could never answer. The belief in a God also helps most of us live better lives; treat others and nature with more respect; and stay hopeful when times get tough. This desire to believe in something greater than humanity is common to most of us, regardless of the difference in our personal beliefs, religious practices, or cultural traditions. And more specifically, for about a quarter of the world's population, Christianity is the religion that facilitates this connection with God. But why is Christianity so popular? How did the humble beginnings of a carpenter's son from over 2000 years ago grow to be the worldwide religious following that it is today? And what is the basis of this popular faith? These are just some of the questions that will be addressed in this book. For anyone considering becoming a Christian, this book is a great place to start finding answers and learning what it takes to convert into Christianity. So whether you're just curious to understand the religion better, or you've already decided to convert, this book will give you the information you're looking for.

Book excerpt: This is the modern English translation of Demonologie by King James. Editor's Preface: The reason I translated this text into modern English is because most people wouldn’t bother to read this text in archaic English. I think it’s important to know the contents of this booklet as it can give a great insight into the things we see happening today and what we should be aware of. Although modern science, which in the Bible is said to be “falsely so called” (1 Timothy 6 20) got many convinced that such things as spirits don’t exist, my personal experience absolutely proves such claims to be wrong, and I’m not alone in this. Many other people were also saved by Jesus from such dangerous occult practices like Hinduism and meditation after their realization that these are the traps set by Satan to get one totally demonized and sent to hell - just check YouTube Jesus testimonials for a proof. Because of my own experiences I know that what King James writes about is true. I’m not saying I have experienced everything he describes, but the things that he writes about which I have personally experienced are absolutely true, so it’s very likely that the rest of what he says about Satan and evil spirits is true also. For most people the claims of this booklet will be too fantastic to believe, and I understand this. But for those who got burnt by the occult, whether being engaged in reiki, palmistry, astrology, Wicca, chanting or any other such practices, and know the reality of spirits, this booklet will, I believe, be very helpful indeed, as it describes the operation of evil spirits and their master Satan. Lastly, I hope you won’t be put off by several references to the lesser intelligence of women in this booklet. This booklet was written in 1597, and at that time women weren’t employed but were destined to become housewives; so like I see in India today (where I live) many women are less intelligent than men due to their lack of education and their focus being only on family and marriage; so I understand why such prejudice was common at that early time in England and Scotland. From the text it’s easy to tell that King James was influenced by Calvinism which I don’t support, just to let you know. For example, he was of the opinion that only the elect could be saved. So I’m highlighting this fact so as to make you aware that I’m of a different opinion, yet I still support this work as it contains much useful information, though it doesn’t mean that I agree with everything it has to say about Christianity. To make it easier to understand this work I’ve modernized the language, simplified certain sayings, shortened some sentences, divided some long paragraphs, and researched more into particular spirits and their actions so that you understand better what King James means in certain passages. (My notes are distinguished from the main work.) Since this document was written in archaic English and Scottish languages, it took me a while to understand some sentences and phrases, but I hope that I’ve translated everything correctly; when I really didn’t understand what was meant by some phrase (which happened a few times), I simply left the phrase as it was, so that not to accidentally change the meaning. Finally, you can read the original work in several online resources out of which I’ve found this most convenient: http://www.sacred-texts.com/pag/kjd/kjd04.htm. Kindest regards, Simona Rich

Book excerpt: How does the Jesus of the New Testament compare to the Jesus we think we know so well? Join bestselling author Philip Yancey as he conducts an enlightening biblical and historical investigation into the real Jesus. From the manger in Bethlehem to the cross in Jerusalem, Philip Yancey presents a complex character who generates questions as well as answers--a disturbing and exhilarating Jesus who wants to radically transform your life and stretch your faith. In The Jesus I Never Knew, Yancey: Cuts through existing views and preconceptions of Jesus, citing experts from church history, modern history, and popular culture Discusses how different people and cultures view Jesus Dissects popular quotes about Jesus Points us back to the Bible The Jesus I Never Knew will engage your heart, mind, emotions, and senses, preparing you for a new, life-changing encounter with the real Jesus described in the Gospels. Praise for The Jesus I Never Knew: "This is the best book about Jesus I have ever read, probably the best book about Jesus in the whole century. Yancey gently took away my blinders and blazed the trail through my own doubting fears, pious know-it-all, and critical balderdash until I saw the Savior anew and thought I heard him ask me, 'Now whom do you say that I am?' and I understood the question as I never had before." --Lewis B. Smedes, Senior Professor, Fuller Seminary "Philip Yancey takes the reader with him on his very personal journey to Jesus. In The Jesus I Never Knew, I became convinced that the Jesus I met--in some ways for the first time--has known me all along. This book is destined to become a favorite--to recommend to those still seeking Jesus and to pass along to those who've met him, but long to know him more." --Elisa Morgan, President Emerita, MOPS International

Book excerpt: Being a Christian is being conformed to the image of Christ. It is having that intimate relationship with Christ resulting in your character and behavior becoming so identical to that of his, that when people look at you, they see Christ. As Christians, Christ is our standard and we are all being conformed (present-continuous, not past) to his image but most of us don't even know the image we are being conformed to because we don't actually know Christ. We don't know who we are meant to be because we don't actually know the standard we are to be living up to. That is why, as a Christian, you cannot be transformed without following Christ. My prayer and hearts desire for all men is that each and every one of us would come to know Jesus Christ personally and more intimately. That we may all come to experience the greatest love ever known, that we may love Him with all our hearts and eventually be with Him for eternity.

County homicide detective and former atheist, Cold-Case Christianity examines the claims of the New Testament using the skills and strategies of a hard-to-convince criminal investigator. Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity. A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As many--young people especially--leave the traditional church in droves, they often still long for a genuine Christian community in which to practice their faith and share their spiritual journeys with others. They want to be faithful but struggle to find a place where they flourish. Whether they've already left the church behind or are merely considering it, readers will find here both heartfelt encouragement and practical steps for finding or creating a community of faith that honors God and offers rest, love, and communion with other believers. Author Kelly Bean broadens our definition of church to include many alternative forms of Christian community. With true stories of those who have given up on church and what they're doing now, this book is also helpful for pastors and churchgoers to help them understand why people leave the church--and what might be done to help them stay.
