This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the exploitation of unconventional fossil fuels such as shale oil and gas becoming both economically and technically more feasible, and developments of great importance occurring in the pursuit of other unconventional resources, we are today witnessing what some have termed a “revolution” in the means of hydrocarbon extraction. Such developments will undoubtedly have major impacts on the dynamics of global energy supply and demand, energy markets and prices, and on the relative status of traditional producers and consumers. The promise of a greater abundance of unconventional hydrocarbon resources has also raised a number of pressing questions and issues relating to the environmental effects of the continued exploitation of fossil fuels. These include the potential for – and consequences of – further legislation to lower carbon emissions implemented by concerned nations around the world, as well as the fate of related legislative and economic incentives for the development of renewable energy technologies. Based on the proceedings of the ECSSR 19thAnnual Energy Conference, Unconventional Fossil Fuels: The Next Hydrocarbon Revolution? brings together a group of distinguished experts drawn from industry and academia to provide a strategic outlook for forthcoming developments in the field of unconventional hydrocarbon energy sources. The resultant papers compiled in this volume provide both professional and academic perspectives on these highly significant developments in the exploitation of unconventional fossil fuel resources, as well as their potential consequences for both producers and consumers.
Book Synopsis Cooper Basin Architecture and Lithofacies by : L. S. Hall
Download or read book Cooper Basin Architecture and Lithofacies written by L. S. Hall and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Cooper Basin is a PennsylvanianMiddle Triassic intracratonic basin in northeastern South Australia and southwestern Queensland. In conjunction with the overlying Eromanga Basin, the basin is Australia's largest onshore producer of gas and oil. Exploration activity in the region has recently expanded with explorers pursuing a range of newly identified unconventional hydrocarbon plays. These include extensive tight gas accumulations in the Gidgealpa Group, deep dry coal seam gas associated with the Patchawarra and Toolachee formations, the less extensive shale gas plays in the Roseneath and Murteree shales and mixed lithotype hybrid plays (Goldstein et al., 2012; Menpes et al., 2013; Greenstreet, 2015). The Australian Petroleum Source Rocks Mapping project is a new study to improve our understanding of the petroleum resource potential of Australia's sedimentary basins."--Online abstract.
Book Synopsis Onshore Basin Inventory Volume 2 by : Takehiko Hashimoto
Download or read book Onshore Basin Inventory Volume 2 written by Takehiko Hashimoto and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A large proportion of Australia's onshore sedimentary basins remain exploration frontiers. Industry interest in these basins has recently increased due to the global and domestic energy demand, and the growth in unconventional hydrocarbon exploration. In 2016, Geoscience Australia released an assessment of eight central Australian basins that summarised the current status of geoscientific knowledge and petroleum exploration, and the key questions, for each basin. This publication provides a comprehensive assessment of the geology, petroleum systems, exploration status and data coverage for additional three basins in western and central Australia: the Canning, Perth and Officer basins. The Perth and Canning basins are producing petroleum basins, however, they may be regarded as frontier basins for unconventional hydrocarbon resources. The Officer Basin is a large, unproven frontier basin which has seen little exploration to date."--Online abstract.
Book Synopsis Global Impact of Unconventional Energy Resources by : Manochehr Dorraj
Download or read book Global Impact of Unconventional Energy Resources written by Manochehr Dorraj and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2018-11-26 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters in this volume represent the latest thinking on the development and exploration of unconventional energy resources in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Europe, Russia, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Latin America, and Africa and shed light on its potential and future prospects in these respective regions. The diversity of thinking about the “shale revolution” is also evident in our case studies. Throughout many countries in Europe for example, there is a strong preference for investment in renewable sources of energy over the fossil fuels. In addition to environmental concerns, the falling price of renewables, have also made them more attractive financially. Consequently, global investment in renewables is outpacing that of fossil fuel two to one. Watching this trend, in 2017, the Chinese government has pledged to invest $360 billion on renewable energy. This would make China the largest investor in development of renewables in the world. Other obstacles to development of shale oil and gas in other parts of the world include, lack of adequate shale resources (Africa), the abundance of conventional energy resources (Middle East and North Africa), high cost of production (Russia, China, Japan) and political opposition to hydraulic fracturing (France and Poland). Despite these sentiments the economic imperatives (providing employment) also play a significant role in determining the future prospects for unconventional energy resources globally.

Download or read book Gas Shale Potential of the Amadeus and Georgina Basins, Australia written by Thi Anh Tiem Vu and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Twenty-four samples provided by Geoscience Australia were analysed using screening methods to provide a preliminary insight into the gas shale potential of the Amadeus and Georgina Basins, Australia. Eleven samples from the Amadeus Basin include the Bitter Springs Formation (Late Neoproterozoic), Lower Giles Creek Dolomite (Middle Cambrian), Goyder Formation (Middle Cambrian) and Horn Valley Siltstone (Early Ordovician). Thirteen samples of core from the Georgina Basin are from the Middle Cambrian, and most of them from the "hot shale" of the Arthur Creek Formation. Results indicate that samples from both the Amadeus and Georgina basins have high potential for gas shale."--Abstract (p. 1)

Book Synopsis Regulating Water Security in Unconventional Oil and Gas by : Regina M. Buono
Download or read book Regulating Water Security in Unconventional Oil and Gas written by Regina M. Buono and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-31 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the need for deeper understanding of regulatory and policy regimes around the world in relation to the use of water for the production of ‘unconventional’ hydrocarbons, including shale gas, coal bed methane and tight oil, through hydraulic fracturing. Legal, policy, political and regulatory issues surrounding the use of water for hydraulic fracturing are present at every stage of operations. Operators and regulators must understand the legal, political and hydrological contexts of their surroundings, procure water for use in the fracturing and extraction processes, gain community cooperation or confront social resistance around water, collect flow back and produced water, and dispose of these wastewaters safely. By analysing and comparing different approaches to these issues from around the globe, this volume gleans insights into how policy, best practices and regulation may be developed to advance the interests of all stakeholders. While it is not always possible to easily transfer ‘good practice’ from one place to another, there is value in examining and understanding the components of different legal and regulatory regimes, as these may assist in the development of better regulatory law and policy for the rapidly growing unconventional energy sector. The book takes an interdisciplinary approach and includes chapters looking at water-energy nexus security in general, along with issue-focused and geographically-focused case studies written by scholars from around the world. Chapter topics, organized in conjunction with the stage of the shale gas production process upon which they touch, include the implications of hydraulic fracturing for agriculture, municipalities, and other stakeholders competing for water supplies; public opinion regarding use of water for hydraulic fracturing; potential conflicts between hydraulic fracturing and water as a human right; prevention of induced seismic activity, and the disposal or recycling of produced water. Several chapters also discuss implications of unconventional energy production for indigenous communities, particularly as regards sustainable water management. This volume will be of interest to scholars and students of energy and water, regulators and policymakers and operators interested in ensuring that they align with emergent best global practice.
