Book Synopsis Problemi di estetica e di teoria musicale by : Giovanni Piana
Download or read book Problemi di estetica e di teoria musicale written by Giovanni Piana and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-01-19 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book The Work of Art written by Gérard Genette and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What art is--its very nature--is the subject of this book by one of the most distinguished continental theorists writing today. Informed by the aesthetics of Nelson Goodman and referring to a wide range of cultures, contexts, and media, The Work of Art seeks to discover, explain, and define how art exists and how it works. To this end, Gérard Genette explores the distinction between a work of art's immanence--its physical presence--and transcendence--the experience it induces. That experience may go far beyond the object itself.Genette situates art within the broad realm of human practices, extending from the fine arts of music, painting, sculpture, and literature to humbler but no less fertile fields such as haute couture and the culinary arts. His discussion touches on a rich array of examples and is bolstered by an extensive knowledge of the technology involved in producing and disseminating a work of art, regardless of whether that dissemination is by performance, reproduction, printing, or recording. Moving beyond examples, Genette proposes schemata for thinking about the different manifestations of a work of art. He also addresses the question of the artwork's duration and mutability.

Download or read book 2021 written by Günter Berghaus and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-01-19 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the fraught relationship between Futurism and the Sacred. Like many fin-de-siècle intellectuals, the Futurists were fascinated by various forms of esotericism such as theosophy and spiritualism and saw art as a privileged means to access states of being beyond the surface of the mundane world. At the same time, they viewed with suspicion organized religions as social institutions hindering modernization and ironically used their symbols. In Italy, the theorization of "Futurist Sacred Art" in the 1930s began a new period of dialogue between Futurism and the Catholic Church. The essays in the volume span the history of Futurism from 1909 to 1944 and consider its different configurations across different disciplines and geographical locations, from Polish and Spanish literature to Italian art and American music.

Book Synopsis Architecture and the Novel under the Italian Fascist Regime by : Francesca Billiani
Download or read book Architecture and the Novel under the Italian Fascist Regime written by Francesca Billiani and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-14 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architecture and the Novel under the Italian Fascist Regime discusses the relationship between the novel and architecture during the Fascist period in Italy (1922-1943). By looking at two profoundly diverse aesthetic phenomena within the context of the creation of a Fascist State art, Billiani and Pennacchietti argue that an effort of construction, or reconstruction, was the main driving force behind both projects: the advocated “revolution” of the novel form (realism) and that of architecture (rationalism). The book is divided into seven chapters, which in turn analyze the interconnections between the novel and architecture in theory and in practice. The first six chapters cover debates on State art, on the novel and on architecture, as well as their historical development and their unfolding in key journals of the period. The last chapter offers a detailed analysis of some important novels and buildings, which have in practice realized some of the key principles articulated in the theoretical disputes.

Book Synopsis Apocalypsis cum figuris by : Claudio Parmiggiani
Download or read book Apocalypsis cum figuris written by Claudio Parmiggiani and published by Umberto Allemandi. This book was released on 2007 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details the most recent installations by the great artist and also his relationship with Luzzara (Reggio Emilia) the village where Parmiggiani was born; the source of the universal within his work, a sort of personal 'Spoon River Anthology' that explains the way his art evolved. This is an unusual book that contains a number of eminently literary and pertinent essays which show the different ways of interpreting his richly meaningful art. One of the artist's most impressive and esteemed achievements is that the theatrical 18th century Palazzo Fabroni is reopening (after several years of restoration), to host this exhibition. Twelve rooms house the same number of new installations which through a series of subtle connections and relationships create a single work- a true inner voyage- where the huge variety of materials such as milk, blood, iron, glass, marble, paper, ashes and wax are capable of becoming a conduit to the imagination. Text in English, French and Italian.
