Book Synopsis Understanding Money Mechanics by : Robert Murphy
Download or read book Understanding Money Mechanics written by Robert Murphy and published by Ludwig von Mises Institute. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding Money Mechanics provides the intelligent layperson with a concise yet comprehensive overview of the theory, history, and practice of money and banking, with a focus on the United States. Although the author considers himself an Austrian school economist, most of the material in this book is a neutral presentation of historical facts and an objective description of the mechanics of money creation in today's world. This book is intended to be a reference for all readers, whether "Austrian" or not, and to bridge the gap by providing a crash course in the necessary theory and history while keeping the discussion tethered to current events. Understanding Money Mechanics covers numerous topics, including the classical gold standard, the Fed's open market operations, changes in central bank policy since the coronavirus, the economics of Bitcoin, and a critique of Modern Monetary Theory (MMT).

Book Synopsis Modern Monetary Theory by : Eduardo Garzón Espinosa
Download or read book Modern Monetary Theory written by Eduardo Garzón Espinosa and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-03-05 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a rigorous, detailed, and balanced analysis of the various contributions to the Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) debate, incorporating both the arguments of proponents and those who point to its limitations and obstacles. Modern Monetary Theory has soared in popularity, particularly in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent impacts on the economy which have led to deeper discussions about monetary and financial systems, fiscal and monetary policies, inflation, and employment. The main characteristic of Modern Monetary Theory is that it offers a revolutionary way of thinking about all these issues, allowing us to abandon many of the myths that conventional economic theory installed in the collective imagination. Breaking down these false beliefs is an essential requirement for thinking and devising economic policy proposals that allow full employment to be achieved without suffering worrying inflation rates. However, this approach has also attracted many criticisms and it is also instructive to consider these in more detail to reach a fully rounded conclusion about the potential or merits of MMT. Written to be accessible to the non-economist, this book will be of great interest to readers from across the social sciences, and outside of academia who want to gain a fuller understanding of the Modern Monetary Theory phenomenon.
Download or read book Blind Robbery! written by Philipp Bagus and published by FinanzBuch Verlag. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Money does not come from the state! Actually, no one believes that statement. But they should. That is because America, like every other country in the world, has a pure paper money system, in which new money is created out of thin air. Andreas Marquart and Philipp Bagus show you how money arises and why our current money is bad money. You will learn how important good money is for an economy and what influence bad money has on everyone in society. What role does the state, government, and politics play in redistribution in favor of the super-rich? Why is a naive faith in the state anything other than a good strategy for the future for each individual citizen? Anyone who has never really trusted politicians — even if it started out as only a gut feeling — will find confirmation in this book that this gut feeling was right all along. An easy to understand introduction to the question of why money is responsible for so many problems in our society.

Book excerpt: Murray Rothbard was known as the state's greatest living enemy, and this is his most succinct and powerful statement on the topic, an exhibit A in how he came to wear that designation proudly. He shows how the state wrecks freedom, destroys civilization, and threatens all lives and property and social well being. This gives a succinct account of Rothbard’s view of the state. Following Franz Oppenheimer and Albert Jay Nock, Rothbard regards the state as a predatory entity. It does not produce anything but rather steals resources from those engaged in production. In applying this view to American history, Rothbard makes use of the work of John C. Calhoun How can an organization of this type sustain itself? It must engage in propaganda to induce popular support for its policies. Court intellectuals play a key role here, and Rothbard cites as an example of ideological mystification the work of the influential legal theorist Charles Black, Jr., on the way the Supreme Court has become a revered institution.

Download or read book Deep Freeze written by Philipp Bagus and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LARGE PRINT EDITION! More at LargePrintLiberty.com It was a modern thriving economy one day, and then, suddenly, the food disappeared from the shelves, the banks closed, and the ships stopped arriving. Iceland in 2008 experienced an unprecedented economic meltdown that struck fear in the hearts of people all over the world. If it could happen here, it could happen anywhere. The economic crisis led to a political crisis, with resignations galore. The whining and wailing about the disaster continues to this day, with most commentators blaming deregulation and the free market. In Deep Freeze, economists Philipp Bagus and David Howden demonstrate that the real cause of the calamity was bad central bank policy. Rates were way too low, banks were too big to fail, housing was implicitly guaranteed, and banks were borrowing short term from abroad to finance long term bonds. The authors discuss the implications of this maturity mismatching and zero in on the central bank policies that encouraged unsound practices. They demonstrate the cause and effect without a shadow of a doubt, using vast amounts of data and a detailed sector-by-sector look at the economy of Iceland. What they find is another instance of the Austrian Theory of the Business Cycle, working itself out in a way that is customized for a time and place. Toby Baxendale writes the introducton to this story that reads like a great novel. It serves as a reminder that central banking policies aren't just about monetary arcana. They affect our lives in profound and sometimes catastrophic ways. The Iceland Freeze is one of the great historical cases that makes Mises's point. Let it always serve as a reminder of what happens when the laws of the market are papered over by politicians and central bankers. This account is likely to remain the definitive one for many years.
