Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of the well-known basic principle of mechanics, the principle of Jourdain, to problems of the theory of the boundary layer leads to an equation from which the equations of Von Karman, Leibenson, and Golubev are derived as special cases. The given equation may be employed in other integral methods. The present paper deals with the method of the variation of the thickness of the boundary layer. A number of new approximate formulas valuable in aerodynamic calculations for the fristion distribution are derived from this procedure. The method has been applied only to laminar boundary layers, but it seems probable that it may be generalized to include turbulent layers as well.

Download or read book Critical Study of Integral Methods in Compressible Laminar Boundary Layers written by Paul A. Libby and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of the most promising integral methods for soliving approximately the compressible-laminar-boundary-layer equations are investigated in order to determine a convenient and accurate method of calculating boundary-layer characteristics. The chief methods considered are the one-parameter Karman-Pohlhausen method with three different assumptions for the velocity profiles and the two-parameter method with two different assumptions for the velocity profiles. Comparison of the results is made with those of known exact solutions for skin-friction and heat-transfer coefficients, velocity profiles, velocity derivatives, and especially laminar-boundary-layer stability. From this comparison, it is found that Karman-Pohlhausen method with the sixth-degree polynomial as the velocity is the most suitable for many practical purposes.

Book Synopsis A Parametric Method of Integrating Laminar-boundary Layer Equations by : Victor Klein
Download or read book A Parametric Method of Integrating Laminar-boundary Layer Equations written by Victor Klein and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The article is divided into four parts: (1) The universal equation of the laminar boundary layer; (2) One-parameter solution; (3) Representation of the solution in the form of a series in powers of formparameters; (4) An example of calculating a boundary layer. Conclusion. A new method for solving the problems in the theory of the laminar boundary layer is presented. The fundamental equations of a two-dimensional isothermal laminar boundary layer are reduced to a 'universal' partial differential equation in terms of a reduced stream function containing certain boundary-layer parameters (called 'formparameters'), which express the influence of the velocity profile at the outer interface of the boundary layer on its characteristics. The numerical integration of the universal equation is carried out once and for all and is followed by a tabulation of the stream function, the skin-friction factor, and other characteristic quantities. These tables can be used to determine the required parameters for any other particular boundary-layer problem (after deriving a universal equation for it) by relatively simple calculations which do not require the use of electronic computers. Book Synopsis Handbook of Wind Energy Aerodynamics by : Bernhard Stoevesandt
Download or read book Handbook of Wind Energy Aerodynamics written by Bernhard Stoevesandt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 1495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides both a comprehensive overview and deep insights on the state-of-the-art methods used in wind turbine aerodynamics, as well as their advantages and limits. The focus of this work is specifically on wind turbines, where the aerodynamics are different from that of other fields due to the turbulent wind fields they face and the resultant differences in structural requirements. It gives a complete picture of research in the field, taking into account the different approaches which are applied. This book would be useful to professionals, academics, researchers and students working in the field.

Book Synopsis Boundary Layer Computation by an N Parameter Integral Method Using Exponentials by : Hartmut H. Bossel
Download or read book Boundary Layer Computation by an N Parameter Integral Method Using Exponentials written by Hartmut H. Bossel and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new integral method is presented for the accurate calculation of laminar boundary layer flows. The method is written for unspecified order N of approximation and permits rapid qualitative solutions for low N (1 or 2), and very accurate solutions for high N (3 to 5). Exponentials are used in the velocity approximation and as weighting functions. The resulting integral relations and a simple method for obtaining initial profile parameters are given. Results are presented for continuous and discontinuous external flow and suction conditions and for favorable and adverse pressure gradients covering the spectrum of boundary layer flows from stagnation point to separation.
