Book Synopsis Practical Guide to Thermal Power Station Chemistry by : Soumitra Banerjee
Download or read book Practical Guide to Thermal Power Station Chemistry written by Soumitra Banerjee and published by Orange Books. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the entire gamut of work which chemistry department of a power plant does. The book covers water chemistry, steam-water cycle chemistry, cooling water cycle chemistry, condensate polishing, stator water conditioning, coal analysis, water analysis procedures in great details. It is for all kinds of intake water and all types of boilers like Drum/Once-through for subcritical and supercritical technologies in different operating conditions including layup. It has also covered nuances of different cycle chemistry treatments like All Volatile / Oxygenated. One of the major reasons of generation loss in a thermal plant is because of boiler tube leakage. There is illustration and elucidation on this which will definitely make people more aware of the importance of adherence to strict quality parameters required for the adopted technology prescribed by well researched organization like EPRI. The other important coverage in this book is determination of quality of primary and secondary fuel which is very important to understand combustion in Boiler, apart from its commercial implication. The health analysis of Lubricants and hydraulic oil have also been adequately covered. I am very much impressed with the detailing of each and every issue. Though Soumitra refers the book as "Practical Guide", the reader will find complete theoretical background of suggested action and the rational of monitoring each parameter. He has detailed out the process, parameters, sampling points, sample frequency & collection methods, measurement techniques, laboratory set up and record keeping very meticulously and there is adequate emphasis on trouble shooting too. There is a nice blending of theory and practice in such a way that the reader at the end will not only learn what to do and how to do, he will also know why to do. I hope this book will be invaluable and a primer to every power plant chemist and the station management shall find it a bankable document to ensure best chemistry practices.

Book Synopsis Aqueous Systems at Elevated Temperatures and Pressures by : Roberto Fernandez-Prini
Download or read book Aqueous Systems at Elevated Temperatures and Pressures written by Roberto Fernandez-Prini and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-07-06 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) has produced this book in order to provide an accessible, up-to-date overview of important aspects of the physical chemistry of aqueous systems at high temperatures and pressures. These systems are central to many areas of scientific study and industrial application, including electric power generation, industrial steam systems, hydrothermal processing of materials, geochemistry, and environmental applications. The authors' goal is to present the material at a level that serves both the graduate student seeking to learn the state of the art, and also the industrial engineer or chemist seeking to develop additional expertise or to find the data needed to solve a specific problem. The wide range of people for whom this topic is important provides a challenge. Advanced work in this area is distributed among physical chemists, chemical engineers, geochemists, and other specialists, who may not be aware of parallel work by those outside their own specialty. The particular aspects of high-temperature aqueous physical chemistry of interest to one industry may be irrelevant to another; yet another industry might need the same basic information but in a very different form. To serve all these constituencies, the book includes several chapters that cover the foundational thermophysical properties (such as gas solubility, phase behavior, thermodynamic properties of solutes, and transport properties) that are of interest across numerous applications. The presentation of these topics is intended to be accessible to readers from a variety of backgrounds. Other chapters address fundamental areas of more specialized interest, such as critical phenomena and molecular-level solution structure. Several chapters are more application-oriented, addressing areas such as power-cycle chemistry and hydrothermal synthesis. As befits the variety of interests addressed, some chapters provide more theoretical guidance while others, such as those on acid/base equilibria and the solubilities of metal oxides and hydroxides, emphasize experimental techniques and data analysis.- Covers both the theory and applications of all Hydrothermal solutions - Provides an accessible, up-to-date overview of important aspects of the physical chemistry of aqueous systems at high temperatures and pressures- The presentation of the book is understandable to readers from a variety of backgrounds

Book Synopsis Selected Topics in High Temperature Chemistry by : Ø. Johannesen
Download or read book Selected Topics in High Temperature Chemistry written by Ø. Johannesen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The properties of materials at high temperature play a vital role in their processing and practical use. The real properties of materials at elevated temperatures are very often governed by defects in their structure. Lattice defects may consist of point defects like vacancies, interstitial atoms or substituted atoms. These classes are discussed in general and specifically for oxides, nitrides, carbides and sulfides. Defect aggregates, shear structures and adaptive structures are also described. Special attention is paid to hydrogen defects which seem to play an important role in several materials.Defects in solids lead to transport properties such as diffusion and conductivity. These themes are thoroughly treated in this book, with examples from various materials being provided. Special attention is paid to the transport properties of grain boundaries. In high temperature corrosion and other types of oxidation, the diffusion of atoms through the reaction products is often the rate limiting step of the reaction. This book takes the reader from the theoretical treatment of defects to applications in high temperature corrosion. Reactions between metals and pure oxygen lead to the formation of oxides on the surface, and the reaction rates may often be related to the diffusion coefficients of the oxide. However, in practical use alloys are subjected to other severe gaseous atmospheres which may often lead to accelerated attack on the material. The severest condition, namely where a salt deposit is combined with oxidizing gases, is called hot corrosion. This and other types of corrosion are also covered. Finally, a chapter is devoted to the prevention of corrosive attack on materials by the addition of rare earth metals. The book has been published in honour of Professor Per Kofstad on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Professor Kofstad has for many years been active in the field of high temperature chemistry in all its aspects, from basic and theoretical work to its application in high temperature corrosion of metals and alloys. The various chapters have been contributed by his friends and colleagues, all of whom are international experts in the field.
