Achieving this objective will require improving educational attainment and reducing skill mismatches in the East, scaling up public infrastructure to attract investment to less productive regions, and facilitating labor mobility. This paper also discusses female labor participation in Poland and the potential impact on bank profitability of the recently implemented bank asset tax. Poland’s population is aging, yet it has an important underused source of qualified labor—its women. For Poland to unleash its full economic potential, it needs to embrace the vital contribution that women can make to its economy.

Book Synopsis The Report: Tunisia 2017 by : Oxford Business Group
Download or read book The Report: Tunisia 2017 written by Oxford Business Group and published by Oxford Business Group. This book was released on with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tunisia’s GDP totalled TD84.3bn (€36.2bn) in 2015, expanding at a rate of 0.8%, down from growth of 2.3% the year before. The fall was due to a variety of external factors, including two terrorist incidents that negatively affected the tourism sector in particular and shook business confidence more generally. However, growth picked up somewhat in 2016, standing at 1%, 1.4% and 1.3% in the first, second and third quarters of the year, respectively, and is expected to maintain this upward trend in 2017, supported by greater export competitiveness. Moves to bolster the economy through reforms, such as the new investment law and plans to tackle wider structural issues, are likely to help to raise growth to higher levels than those witnessed in recent years, as should the improvement in security since the 2015 attacks, though the extent of this will depend in part on whether or not the economy of the country’s main export destination and tourism source market – the eurozone – can emerge from its own recent slowdown.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With Tunisia’s young population and well-maintained infrastructure, there is the opportunity for strong economic development. The establishment of democratic rule in the country should also be a major boon in terms of creating a positive business environment characterized by the strong rule of law. Tunisia has a deserved reputation for stability and moderation, and while the political dialogue will undoubtedly be trying and the security environment a challenge, recent months have shown the propensity of key actors to focus on consensual policies – which bodes well for Tunisia’s long-term outlook.
