Book excerpt: THERE YOU ARE By Lenard Davis Illustrated by Lynn Brown Translated by Jaime Somme Livia is a bored and frustrated Burmese cat living in a New York City high rise apartment. Her entire world consists of two humans who are loving and kind but are usually gone all day, leaving Livia to gaze wistfully from the balcony. She has a only one fellow feline friend across the way for company and her only other pastime is to look down to the buzzing life many stories below. She thinks the cars whizzing about are mice and wants to chase them. One day she has her chance! A plumber comes to fix a problem under the sink and, when he leaves, she manages to get out the door with him and eventually reaches her goal and ends up on the street below. There she finds a terrifying world of huge rushing automobiles, insensitive people hurrying about and, in a dark alley, very large rats and even meaner stray cat. Upon discovering how rough the world outside can be, Livia wants only to get back to the security of her apartment but has no idea how to do that. This book is geared at ages eight through twelve. It is fully illustrated with hand-painted pictures and is also translated into Spanish which the reader can see by flipping the book over and upside down.

Book excerpt: Would you like to read with your children a story that fosters the emotional bond between parents and children, adjusted self-esteem, quality time, sincerity, guidelines to achieve their dreams until they come true, and the value of friendship? Then you must read the story of Jasmine. Jasmine met a very special and very popular friend, who taught her that if she went very fast in life, she would have to walk alone with no one else, but if she wanted to go far and achieve her dreams, actually, she had to be accompanied by people with the same vision and approach that she wanted to show, making real teams. This friend was named Edwardo. Throughout her life, Jasmine met many friends with whom to talk, play, and go for a walk. But it was the mentoring of her mother and the support of Edwardo that Jasmine made her dreams come true, living happily in the Pacific Ocean with her beloved mother and with her great friends, the friends of the sea.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis People, Care and Work in the Home by : Mohamed Gamal Abdelmonem
Download or read book People, Care and Work in the Home written by Mohamed Gamal Abdelmonem and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-05-18 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introducing novel theoretical, empirical and practical investigations with case studies from UK, Europe, South America and South East Asia, the book offers a novel global outlook on how contemporary homes are facing genuine challenges from operational, economic, spatial, social and wellbeing perspectives. The changing demographics of our modern society have inevitably impacted the dynamics and relationships within the home from being personal and private to that of multiple work relationships; domestic work, care for older people, or supporting people with special needs. Whilst the home is a concept universally experienced, permeating every aspect of our lives, it remains an entity whose influence on health and wellbeing is poorly understood. This book brings together 17 different contributions from scholars, researchers and practitioners from different disciplinary and professional backgrounds including three feature articles by leading figures, such as Lord Best and Baroness Hollins. The chapters are organised within three parts that look at the triangle of people + work + care in the home. At a time when homes are increasingly becoming local hubs for care and wellbeing, this volume is a critical and useful addition to current literature in the social sciences, humanities, economics, culture, care and wellbeing in the domestic sphere.

Book Synopsis Theory of Experience in Architecture and Urban Design by : Adolfo Benito Narváez Tijerina
Download or read book Theory of Experience in Architecture and Urban Design written by Adolfo Benito Narváez Tijerina and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-07-05 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique volume presents the practical tools for architects and urban designers to improve the work processes of architectural design—from conception to construction, taking into consideration the personalized world of users, architects, and urban designers. The volume starts from the conception of architectural space as a continuum that goes from the subjective depth of the mind to the objective reality, taking into consideration the perspective of building experiences for users. It is based on the idea that at the heart of that continuum is the experience of architecture and the city as the element that unites them and gives them meaning. The volume first defines what the architectural experience is from the processes of perception, cognition, and evaluation that users and architects make about workplaces and programs. It goes on to consider the knowledge and tools needed for the evaluation of users and places, providing the methods that will help to understand the architectural experience desired by the main users of both the architectural object and an urban design, providing a series of techniques that have proven effective. Key features: Describes the theoretical approaches, methods, and tools necessary for architectural and urban design for creating experiences for users Provides a deep understanding of the nature of built environments and what they express Discusses specific methods for in-depth research on users’ subjective space through making meaningful contact with them and through appropriate technological means, such as research on their expressions and communications on virtual social networks This book will help to make urban architects and designers aware of their importance for the implementation of public policies that will work in the very long term, with the expectation that by becoming aware of this role, they can act in accordance with an ethic based on values of protection of life, human solidarity, compassion, vitality, freedom, equality between people and social justice.
