Book excerpt: Using both a practical and a humanistic approach, Zip Dobyns guides the reader through the proven techniques used to rectify a birth chart. The precise methods she outlines to find the correct birth time are easy to follow, and include the use of various methods of planetary and angle progression, solar arc directions, local house cusps, transits, and more. She also discusses less dependable techniques. About destiny, Zip wrote: "Materialistic science assumes that destiny (experience) creates character. Materialistic astrology assumes that the planets create both character and destiny. Humanistic astrology assumes that our attitudes and actions (including unconscious desires and habit patterns) create our destiny, that we are born when our character-destiny matches the state of the cosmos, and that the planets offer a useful blueprint of the cosmic order, but do not create it. All approaches agree that internal nature and external circumstances match, so that we can understand one more clearly in the light of the other. They differ in where they place the power: in chance and matter (science), in the planets (materialistic astrology), or in the mind (humanistic astrology)."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Astrological terms, the prenatal epoch starts at the moment of conception. According to the author, "the prenatal epoch is a certain moment of time, occurring approximately at the commencement of the gestative period... when the degree ascending on the eastern horizon, and the longitude of the moon thereat, interchange with the longitude of the moon and the degree ascending at birth, or their respective opposite points." (pg. 19) What this means is that your prenatal moon was your birth ascendant, and your prenatal ascendant is your birth moon, or the opposite points in the zodiac. There are four possibilities: If the natal moon is above or below the horizon at birth, and if it is increasing or decreasing in light. So what good is this? For one thing, it helps explain infant abnormalities, as well as infant mortality, in cases where there are no other astrological factors. It also aids in reading charts for multiple births: Twins, triplets, quads and quints. Closely allied to the Prenatal Epoch is the Law of Polarity, or sex. Properly calculated, the Prenatal Epoch will not only confirm the sex of the individual, it will also serve to rectify the birth-time itself. Unlike other methods of rectification, where absurdly large time changes can result, Prenatal Epoch calculations correct minor errors in clock-time, thus enabling greater precision in forecasting.

Book excerpt: [T]here is a system of interpretation in numerology which is supported by experience, but has its origin beyond the realm of the phenomenal worlds. If no such system existed, it would be impossible to prove the geometrical relations of thought. But this is done daily by those who make use of numbers for purposes of divination.-from "Chapter II: Geometrical Relations of Thought"Originally published in two volumes in 1913, this classic of the art of numerology builds upon the work of the ancient Greeks, Aryans, and Egyptians to describe the dramatic effect that numbers exert upon the world all around us. Part I introduces numerological theories and practices, including how to read others' thoughts through numbers, predict and influence success and failure, and understand "chance" events. Part II explores the geometry of nature and how it affects us, numbers that sway human will, and much more. For practitioners of the paranormal arts and those interested in the history of science and pseudoscience, this is a fascinating and essential book."Sepharial" was the pseudonym of British mystic WALTER GORN-OLD (1864-1929), one of the most prolific writers on and teachers of astrology in modern times. Among his many works are Astrology Explained, Cosmic Symbolism, Science of Foreknowledge, and The Silver Key.

Book excerpt: This book explores an area of contemporary religion, spirituality and popular culture which has not so far been investigated in depth, the phenomenon of astrology in the modern west. Locating modern astrology historically and sociologically in its religious, New Age and millenarian contexts, Nicholas Campion considers astrology's relation to modernity and draws on extensive fieldwork and interviews with leading modern astrologers to present an invaluable contribution to our understanding of the origins and nature of New Age ideology. This book challenges the notion that astrology is either 'marginal' or a feature of postmodernism. Concluding that astrology is more popular than the usual figures suggest, Campion argues that modern astrology is largely shaped by New Age thought, influenced by the European Millenarian tradition, that it can be seen as an heir to classical Gnosticism and is part of the vernacular religion of the modern west.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A richly detailed, in-depth look at fixed stars and their role in affecting astrological predictions. Since prehistory, humanity has been held in thrall by the night sky, captivated by the mystery of the stars. Seeking to make sense of such a magical overhead landscape, people used the stars to relate beliefs, creation stories, and mythologies. And just as the fixed stars have ancient origins in human life, their astrological interpretations get right to the heart of our lives. Celebrated astrologer Bernadette Brady melds modern astrological techniques with Egyptian and early Greek mythology to bring astrologers to a deeper understanding of the horoscope and provides delineations for using fixed stars in chart interpretation. Her methods open a window on the fixed stars, revealing how a major star in a person’s chart indicates the stage of life in which it is active and how it affirms the person’s life journey through the mythology that the star represents. Though the fixed stars have been watched and studied for all of human history, Brady’s Book of Fixed Stars continues to be the astrological bible for how to use them in practice. This is an essential resource that should be on every astrologer’s bookshelf. The book includes Paran maps, star maps, star phases, and mythologies for over sixty stars, New insights into the natal use of fixed stars, as well as their use in mundane astrology, Extensive appendices of graphs and tables to help astrologers find rising or setting dates for any given location, And a listing of 176 stars with their 21st-century positions. Originally published by Weiser Books in 1999, this Weiser Classics edition includes a new foreword by Chloe Margherita.
