Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you feel that life is propelling you along like a twig in a strong river current? Or that it is taking you far too close to dangerous hazards, risking your very existence and causing you immense anxiety? That river current lives within you; it’s your ego, and it is not wise, kind or benevolent. Left to its own devices it’s a tyrant, and it will always be the same. It’s invariably your ego that creates and maintains the threats to your happiness, your peace, and your very survival; and it’s an ever-present powerful threat. In this book, Kevin Staffa identifies and examines three key manifestations of your ego: your “Proto” ego (that is, your source or ancestral ego), that’s not only paranoid about survival but can be the greatest threat to your survival; your intellectual ego and your spiritual ego. They’re unmasked and revealed for what they are: untruthful, devious and out of control. In this exposé, the author closely examines David Hawkins’ map of consciousness and reveals its dangerous flaws. If you want to take back your life, this book is for you. It decodes and dismantles your ego; and shows you how to transform this inner despot into a calm and useful ally.

Book excerpt: In Fault Line, Sarah Andrews' seventh absorbing mystery, forensic geologist Emily Hansen finds herself in a heavenly situation-for a geologist, anyway. Here, Salt Lake City, on the verge of hosting the Olympics, is hit with a major earthquake, Em's first; she's delighted to see her science at work live and in color instead of in a lab like usual. Not that it's all fun and games-the quake is minor in terms of damage, but the specter of the possibility of a much larger disaster looms. And the geological event brings her a job. For the past few months while trying to move forward in her relationship with her boyfriend, Ray, a cop in Salt Lake, Em has been consulting for and training with the FBI as an unofficial investigator; when a state-employed geologist is murdered hours after the quake, the Feds ask Em to put her special brand of detection skills to work on the case. The disaster already has the local government types edgy, and a murder at the height of the emergency gets even the governor's attention. Em must use all the investigatory tools in her arsenal to uncover what in the dead geologist's life-earthquake related or not, professional or personal-could have made her the target of a killer. Action-packed and tensely written, Fault Line is as much about the very real effects of an earthquake on our modern lives as it is about the science of finding a killer.

This book was released on 2018-04-22 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GEOLOGY IS THE SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF THE EARTH, its composition, its processes, and the forces that act upon it. It is a broad subject that covers very specific aspects from glaciers and volcanoes, to gem stones and energy resources, to changing land formations and mass extinctions. It includes every area - the earth's core, ocean floor, deep canyons, mountaintops, and even the atmosphere. Geologists spend most of their time outdoors, often in remote areas. They dig up fossils, take soil samples, create maps, and gather lots of photographic evidence. They study the weather and investigate potential geological activity in order to predict natural disasters and potentially save people from the ravages of tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, or volcanic eruptions. There are dozens of different jobs that a geologist can hold. Each utilizes the knowledge and skills acquired from the same basic training and education. What any one geologist does depends on the job title or area of specialization. For example, environmental geologists are concerned with the safe use of natural resources. They test soil and water for signs of toxins after accidents, help create plans for cleanup, and make sure areas are safe for residents. Hydrogeologists work primarily with water. They study how water moves, how and where it becomes available to communities, ways to increase water supplies, and how to minimize possible pollution. Petroleum geologists search for sources of oil and gas, and develop methods for safe extraction. The minimum educational requirement to become a geologist is a bachelor's degree in geology, though many employers prefer a master's degree. In either case, those entering the field can expect to find jobs waiting for them. In fact, industry leaders predict that some areas will experience shortages of trained professionals as the demand for renewable and safe energy, more accurate hazard weather plans, global environmental safety, and answers to the threat of climate change grows in importance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why the social character of scientific knowledge makes it trustworthy Are doctors right when they tell us vaccines are safe? Should we take climate experts at their word when they warn us about the perils of global warming? Why should we trust science when so many of our political leaders don't? Naomi Oreskes offers a bold and compelling defense of science, revealing why the social character of scientific knowledge is its greatest strength—and the greatest reason we can trust it. Tracing the history and philosophy of science from the late nineteenth century to today, this timely and provocative book features a new preface by Oreskes and critical responses by climate experts Ottmar Edenhofer and Martin Kowarsch, political scientist Jon Krosnick, philosopher of science Marc Lange, and science historian Susan Lindee, as well as a foreword by political theorist Stephen Macedo.

Book excerpt: Acclaimed Canadian poet Steven Price has conjured a stunning debut novel that explores what we ask from each other, and how much we are prepared to give. Set in the city of Victoria, British Columbia, Into That Darkness opens at the moment when a massive earthquake hits the entire west coast with devastating results. Amid the destruction of the city, survivors are left to negotiate a calamity in which bonds of civility are pushed to their limits and often broken. When Arthur Lear hears a voice crying in the rubble, he finds himself descending deep under a collapsed building in a desperate attempt to save a young boy and his mother. But what he discovers there will change him forever — as circumstances lead him across the city’s broken landscape, through the chaos of its hospitals and streets, in a harrowing search for the mother’s lost daughter. Over the days that follow, Lear’s very sense of humanness will be tested and compromised, as he faces the limits of himself and his fellow survivors, in his long journey home. A novel for our age of anxiety and fear, Steven Price delivers a powerful story about the physical manifestation of the darker things lurking in our culture, in ourselves.

Book excerpt: Under Different Skies takes the reader to several countries in Africa and the Middle East during the 1950s and 60s at a time when many changes were happening. World War Two had caused a huge awakening in this region. All-terrain vehicles and transistor radios were changing the expectations of people in many countries and revolution was always in the air. The book gives a glimpse of conditions in these countries as they were then, and how geological exploration parties had to cope with them. We are given a brief glimpse of Rons early life in New Zealand, then the book becomes a compilation of fascinating anecdotes, presented chronologically, that trace the adventures, encounters and experiences that shaped his life. In working as an exploration geologist one is never far from the world of animals and they too feature strongly in his stories.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You have so much more to learn and obey from God's word than I have written. As you read this book, you will read the word TRUTH 602 times. I do not know anyone who doesn't want the TRUTH. In this book, I cover the past, present, and even some of our future. As you read this book, I believe you too will be able to see the past, present, and future, as the Lord opens the eyes of your understanding. Most likely, you will learn a lot more than you already know, and you and your family will be blessed. My only request is that as you read and learn, I ask that you live what you learn and share this book (knowledge) with others. Again, may the Lord bless you and your family with the TRUTH. In Matthew 7:13""14, Jesus said, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."
