Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of IFIPTM 2010, the 4th IFIP WG 11.11 International Conference on Trust Management, held in Morioka, Iwate, Japan during June 16-18, 2010. IFIPTM 2010 provided a truly global platform for the reporting of research, development, policy, and practice in the interdependent arrears of privacy, se- rity, and trust. Building on the traditions inherited from the highly succe- ful iTrust conference series, the IFIPTM 2007 conference in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, the IFIPTM 2008 conference in Trondheim, Norway, and the IFIPTM 2009 conference at Purdue University in Indiana, USA, IFIPTM 2010 focused on trust, privacy and security from multidisciplinary persp- tives. The conference is an arena for discussion on relevant problems from both research and practice in the areas of academia, business, and government. IFIPTM 2010 was an open IFIP conference. The program of the conference featured both theoretical research papers and reports of real-world case studies. IFIPTM 2010 received 61 submissions from 25 di?erent countries: Japan (10), UK (6), USA (6), Canada (5), Germany (5), China (3), Denmark (2), India (2), Italy (2), Luxembourg (2), The Netherlands (2), Switzerland (2), Taiwan (2), Austria, Estonia, Finland, France, Ireland, Israel, Korea,Malaysia, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Turkey. The Program Committee selected 18 full papers for presentation and inclusion in the proceedings. In addition, the program and the proceedings include two invited papers by academic experts in the ?elds of trust management, privacy and security, namely, Toshio Yamagishi and Pamela Briggs.

Book excerpt: Web services and service oriented environments are key enablers for the migration of entertainment, business, sociability, science and health-care from the physical world to the virtual world. The result of this on-going migration is a new place very much different from the physical world, one where interconnected services interact with human users, sensors and embedded devices. Yet for this vision to become reality, trust needs to be addressed as members of the global e-society r- ularly today deal with the question whether they can trust other, unknown parties. Trust is a vital component of internet-based interactions and service-oriented en- ronment, but all too often it is assumed to be an implicit property that exists in the background rather than being an explicit property that is well-de ned and quant- able. While providing trust is challenging in existing computing systems, providing trust in service oriented environments is much more complex due to the dynamic and adaptable nature of these environment which are often large scale and across domains. To date the problem of trust for service oriented environments has been largely unexplored. This book represents the rst comprehensivecoverageof the principles, methods and systems for trust management and evaluation in service oriented environments.

Book excerpt: This volume constitutes the proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Trust Management, held in Paris, France, during 23–26 May 2005. The conf- ence follows successful International Conferences in Crete in 2003 and Oxford in 2004. All conferences were organized by iTrust, which is a working group funded as a thematic network by the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) unit of the Information Society Technologies (IST) program of the European Union. The purpose of the iTrust working group is to provide a forum for cro- disciplinary investigation of the applications of trust as a means of increasing security, building con?dence and facilitating collaboration in dynamic open s- tems. The notion of trust has been studied independently by di?erent academic disciplines, which has helped us to identify and understand di?erent aspects of trust. Theaimofthisconferencewastoprovideacommonforum, bringingtogether researchers from di?erent academic branches, such as the technology-oriented disciplines, law, social sciences and philosophy, in order to develop a deeper and more fundamental understanding of the issues and challenges in the area of trust management in dynamic open systems. The response to this conference was excellent; from the 71 papers submitted to the conference, we selected 21 full papers and 4 short papers for presentation. The program also included two keynote addresses, given by Steve Marsh from National Research Centre Canada, Institute for Information Technology, and Steve Kimbrough from the University of Pennsylvania; an industrial panel; 7 technology demonstrations; and a full day of tutorials.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design of complex artifacts and systems requires the cooperation of multidisciplinary design teams using multiple sophisticated commercial and non-commercial engine- ing tools such as CAD tools, modeling, simulation and optimization software, en- neering databases, and knowledge-based systems. Individuals or individual groups of multidisciplinary design teams usually work in parallel and independently with various engineering tools, which are located on different sites, often for quite a long period of time. At any moment, individual members may be working on different versions of a design or viewing the design from various perspectives, at different levels of details. In order to meet these requirements, it is necessary to have efficient comput- supported collaborative design systems. These systems should not only automate in- vidual tasks, in the manner of traditional computer-aided engineering tools, but also enable individual members to share information, collaborate, and coordinate their activities within the context of a design project. Based on close international collaboration between the University of Technology of Compiègne in France and the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Ac- emy of Sciences in the early 1990s, a series of international workshops on CSCW in Design started in 1996. In order to facilitate the organization of these workshops, an International Working Group on CSCW in Design (CSCWD) was established and an International Steering Committee was formed in 1998. The series was converted to int- national conferences in 2000 building on the success of the four previous workshops.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive revision of the edition published in 1984, Corporate Trust Administration and Management, Fourth Edition is a completely up-to-date reference on the current practices and processes in the corporate trust function of financial service institutions, and on the emergent trends in trustee and related agency activities and responsibilities. Robert Landau thoroughly examines and analyzes the duties and responsibilities of the indenture trustee in connection with debt financing instruments of corporate and municipal entities, the administration of the indenture contract or other agreement under which the securities are issued, and the procedures and practices incident to the servicing of the debt securities. This edition incorporates the major developments and dramatic changes in capital markets that have occurred since 1984, including enactment of the Trust Indenture Reform Act of 1990 and SEC Rule 144A. Detailed in this volume are the dramatic increases in the securitization of assets and the use of asset-backed collateral and credit-enhanced financings, and the potential effect of significantly increased secondary market disclosure on trustees. Landau also discusses the emergent problems surrounding the payment of indenture trustee's fees in bankruptcy proceedings, as well as the increasing trend toward the immobilization of securities certificates and the relevant judicial decisions significantly affecting the liability of corporate trustees. Covered in this book are the three principle areas of account administration: indenture contracts, indenture defaults, and all subsequent actions, difficulties, and resolutions. This edition also addresses the management function of a corporate trust department including planning, organization and structure, training and development, and performance planning and evaluation. A separate reference section includes the complete text of the Trust Indenture Act of 1939, as amended by the Trust Indenture Reform Act of 1990, an expanded set of useful forms, check sheets and sample documents, a bibliography of selected reading and reference material, and an extensive glossary of securities industry words and terms. Corporate Trust Administration and Management is not only an excellent study of corporate trust matters but a very useful reference guide, as it deals on a highly practical basis with the problems a financial services institution acting in a trustee or agency capacity is likely to face, and clearly outlines the rights and responsibilities of the trustee, the agent, and the issuer and holder of debt securities. This essential book continues to be the basic textbook and reference work for practitioners in the corporate trust field and those involved in securities industry matters.
