Book Synopsis Rautavaara's Journey in Music by : Barbara Blanchard Hong
Download or read book Rautavaara's Journey in Music written by Barbara Blanchard Hong and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-07-12 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Einojuhani Rautavaara (1928–2016) has been called Finland’s most notable musical export after Sibelius. His prolific output includes eleven operas; eight symphonies; eleven concertos; choral works for the Orthodox, Lutheran, and Roman Catholic churches; secular choral works; chamber music; vocal solos; and keyboard works. Many of these works were commissioned by internationally known performers and ensembles including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Richard Stoltzman, Hilary Hahn, Anne Akiko Meiers, Gerald Finley, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Juilliard School of Music Orchestra. Perhaps most frequently performed are his Cantus Arcticus, a concerto for recorded arctic birds and orchestra, Angel of Light, his seventh symphony, and the Lorca choral suite depicting Death as a stalker in a Spanish village. Rautavaara’s Journey in Music is divided into two sections; the first a biography and discussion of works that show his various style changes, from neoclassical, to twelve-tone, to neoromantic, and finally to a personal expressive style combining elements of twelve-tone and tonality. The second part divides his works by genre and gives more detailed information of stylistic analysis, libretto, provenance, and, often, reception.

Book Synopsis Complementary Medicine, Beauty and Modelling by : A. Listowska
Download or read book Complementary Medicine, Beauty and Modelling written by A. Listowska and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complementary Medicine, Beauty and Modelling offers readers the knowledge to naturally improve their appearance, slow the ageing process, and experience increased physical and emotional security. By understanding and applying some basic principles of complementary medicine, readers should be able to strengthen their physical bodies, improving upon the individual qualities that they appreciate most, whilst also improving upon those that they feel they might be lacking. Beauty is often considered a commodity reserved for the young and slim, and modelling the domain of the impossibly attractive. As a result, the majority of both men and women may never envisage themselves possessing the physical criteria for a career spent posing in front of cameras or strutting the worlds catwalks. However, it is important to remember that each person possesses individual characteristics and personal attributes that make them unique. Addressing these attributes will improve their appearance, and often result in improved temperament and appreciation of individual strengths. The beauty that a woman expresses in her daily life is a declaration of herself and the person she wishes to present to the world, whether it is while caring for children and family, managing a business, studying, or spending time with friends and family. This is no less so for men, who often see physical appearance and strength as a means to establish their relationship with their body and declare their presence. This book offers an insight into concepts of physical beauty and photographic modelling, and encourages the reader to view the body from a different perspective. Physical features aside, the book delves into the body/mind relationship, and draws upon the wisdom of philosophies such as naturopathy, nutrition, traditional Chinese medicine, Bach flower remedies, acupuncture, mineral therapy, iridology, yoga, meditation, and natural remedies, without ignoring skin care, cosmetics, perfume, and paramedical tattooing. With even a basic knowledge of the principles of complementary medicine, readers can begin to understand and improve upon perceived flaws in their physical features, and gain the confidence to recognise the personal attributes that make them each individuals. We encourage readers to appreciate the unique beauty that is within each of us, and recognise that a nutritious diet, healthy lifestyle, and positive view of themselves are the keys to maintain emotional stability and emphasise their appearance.

Book Synopsis Oxford Studies in Ancient Philosophy, Volume 46 by : Brad Inwood
Download or read book Oxford Studies in Ancient Philosophy, Volume 46 written by Brad Inwood and published by Oxford Studies in Ancient Phil. This book was released on 2014-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oxford Studies in Ancient Philosophy is a volume of original articles on all aspects of ancient philosophy. The articles may be of substantial length, and include critical notices of major books. OSAP is now published twice yearly, in both hardback and paperback. 'The serial Oxford Studies in Ancient Philosophy (OSAP) is fairly regarded as the leading venue for publication in ancient philosophy. It is where one looks to find the state-of-the-art. That the serial, which presents itself more as an anthology than as a journal, has traditionally allowed space for lengthier studies, has tended only to add to its prestige; it is as if OSAP thus declares that, since it allows as much space as the merits of the subject require, it can be more entirely devoted to the best and most serious scholarship.' Download or read book Data Mining with Python written by Di Wu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-04-10 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data is everywhere and it’s growing at an unprecedented rate. But making sense of all that data is a challenge. Data Mining is the process of discovering patterns and knowledge from large data sets, and Data Mining with Python focuses on the hands-on approach to learning Data Mining. It showcases how to use Python Packages to fulfill the Data Mining pipeline, which is to collect, integrate, manipulate, clean, process, organize, and analyze data for knowledge. The contents are organized based on the Data Mining pipeline, so readers can naturally progress step by step through the process. Topics, methods, and tools are explained in three aspects: “What it is” as a theoretical background, “why we need it” as an application orientation, and “how we do it” as a case study. This book is designed to give students, data scientists, and business analysts an understanding of Data Mining concepts in an applicable way. Through interactive tutorials that can be run, modified, and used for a more comprehensive learning experience, this book will help its readers to gain practical skills to implement Data Mining techniques in their work.
