Download or read book Irish Trout and Salmon Flies written by E.J. Malone and published by COCH Y BONDDU BOOKS. This book was released on 1999-03 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "...essentially a dictionary of over 800 traditional and modern dressings from an Irish fly-tyer's notebook, filling a major gap in angling literature: there is information on hooks, fly-dressing materials and their preparation, with a guide to vegetable dyeing and the materials used to obtain the subtle colours beloved by the traditional fly tyers. Trout and salmon fly dressings each have their own section, and there are appendixes that provide information on where to fish throughout Ireland, and often on which flies are particularly effective in each area." This paperback edition, published in 1998 by Coch-y-Bonddu Books, Machynlleth, was intended as a less expensive re-issue of the "limited" second edition which was published in 1993 by The Flyfisher's Classic Library. Good colour photographs of flies tied by Frankie McPhilips. The first edition is out-of-print and already scarce and hard to find.

Download or read book Plu Stiniog written by Emrys Evans and published by Coch Y Bonddu Books. This book was released on 2010 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emrys Evans, Manod, was a well-known North Wales fisherman and a keen historian of Welsh angling. He formed a collection of 133 fly patterns used in the multitude of hill lakes in the area of Blaenau Ffestiniog, together with extensive manuscript notes. To add to this portfolio, his son-in-law, Gareth Tudor Jones, photographed each fly. After Emrys's death in 2008, at the age of 91 years, his family explored the possibility of publishing his work. With the support of the Cambrian Angling Association, Geraint Vaughan Jones of Llan Ffestiniog was able to edit and publish it. The book was written in Welsh, and the first edition was published in the Welsh language in quite a limited edition. This quickly sold out. This new edition in the English language has been translated by Coch-y-Bonddu Books staff member, Rev. Richard Lewis, and edited by Paul Morgan. Geraint Vaughan Jones who edited and was responsible for publishing the original edition has contributed a new Introduction in English. Superbly illustrated with Gareth's photographs, this forms a unique and valuable record of flies, most of them unique to the Ffestinog area of the Snowdonia National Park. "The tyings...are in every sense fishing flies - and there is no bull in the accompanying text. The flies show all the core skills to fine effect... Priceless!" (Terry Griffiths, Editor of Fly Dresser magazine).

Book excerpt: Directory of old and modern salmon flies Companion to Shrimp & Spey Flies for Salmon and Steelhead (0-8117-1428-4) and Hairwing & Tube Flies for Salmon and Steelhead (0-8117-3176-6) The tradition of tying salmon flies with feathers is a very old one, recorded in Ancient Greece, but the Victorians instilled artistry into salmon fly tying with their elaborate built-wing flies using feathers from a variety of exotic birds. After a period in which featherwing flies were eclipsed by those made from animal hairs and man-made materials, the popularity of these versatile feathers is resurging. This international guide features dressings from North America and Europe. The origins of patterns, precise dressings, and superb color illustrations will inspire fly tiers to attain new heights of achievement.
