Book excerpt: Troubled Souls is a story about frustrations, hopelessness, ignorance, injustice and the inability to be heard most of my life, no one would take the time to even listen. It's a story about pain and suffering and my quest for some sort of relief, as well as some sense of peace and understanding. This is about a family that was dysfunctional not only because of the social conditions but also because of the emotional poverty, selfishness and resentment. Most importantly a hopelessness that would run throughout the souls of each and everyone of my siblings as well as my environment. We would all become a product of our environment, an impoverished world of racism, violence, drugs, etc. A division that not only divided black and white but rich and poor. A plague that would reach all of America in one way or another. Troubled Souls is about lost values and dreams, a need to become numb to the injustice and unfairness, and to escape from within. I would turn to drugs and alcohol for many years, unable to live in my own skin, ashamed and afraid of reality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David A. Williams Jr. has always had a creative and entrepreneurial mind, and growing up, he became more attached to writing. His relationship with God shows in his work, not neglecting the fact that we are all human. In “Words of a Troubled Soul,” David mirrors his feelings and takes on life through his work. This book starts like David’s life: rough, dark, and hopeless. You’ll notice some helpful sayings and quotes as you continue to read. As you reach the book’s climax, you’ll see his writings become brighter and more hopeful. David wanted this introduction of the series to show that it’s okay to think and feel how you do. So for him, he kept God in the midst of the light and the dark times. The last thing he mentioned was that there are many troubled souls in this world, and he wants to put the brave ones in this series.

Book excerpt: “All Souls is the written equivalent of an Irish wake, where revelers dance and sing the dead person’s praises. In that same style, the book leavens tragedy with dashes of humor but preserves the heartbreaking details.”—The New York Times Book Review A 25th anniversary edition of the National Bestselling memoir, with a new afterword from Michael Patrick MacDonald, takes us deep into the South Boston housing projects during one of the city's most tumultuous times in history and tells the story of his family struggling the overcome the poverty, crime, addiction, and incarceration that overtook the neighborhood. A breakaway bestseller since its first printing, All Souls takes us deep into Michael Patrick MacDonald’s Southie, the proudly insular neighborhood with the highest concentration of white poverty in America. Rocked by Whitey Bulger’s crime schemes and busing riots, MacDonald’s Southie is populated by sharply hewn characters. We meet Ma, Michael’s mini-skirted, accordian-playing, single mother who endures the deaths of four of her eleven children. And there are Michael’s older siblings Davey, sweet artist-dreamer; Kevin, child genius of scam; and Frankie, Golden Gloves boxer and neighborhood hero whose lives are high-wire acts played out in a world of poverty and pride. Nearly suffocated by his grief and his community’s code of silence, MacDonald tells his family story here with gritty but moving honesty. All Souls is heartbreaking testimony to lives lost too early, and the story of how a place so filled with pain could still be “the best place in the world.”

Wherever Jesus went, he was surrounded by a multitude of hurting peoplefolks that needed someone to care about and for them. He saw them as harassed, scattered sheep in desperate need of a shepherd. To each of us, he has brought hope for deliverance, healing from our sorrows, and forgiveness for our sins. Whether we investigate the heartbeat of the Psalmists, the trials of the patriarchs, or the pains of the apostles, we find people who faced the abuse life arbitrarily hurls our way. These saints found healing through their relationship with their God. They wrote fearlessly of their experiences so we might learn from them. Secrets of the Blessed takes us on a journey of faith through our pain. There is truly hope for a blessed, happy life when we learn to believe God even when he seems unfair to us. There really are no secrets, but there are nuggets of wisdom we can mine from Gods Word.

Book excerpt: Broken Spirits Lost Souls provides a rare, valuable look at a silent yet potentially deadly problem plaguing families today, Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). Children born into crisis or ambivalence are vulnerable to attachment disturbances because the roots of this horrendous disorder occur when basic life enhancing needs of newborns and infants go unnoticed or unmet. Consequently, children who are victims of early neglect or trauma are at grave risk. The candid stories in Broken Spirits Lost Souls, told by parents of disturbed youngsters, paint a clear picture of their chilling, dangerous behavior. Attachment disorder may be demonstrated by out-of-control children as young as three years old. By their teens, these kids predictably defy authority and challenge every accepted familial and societal norm. At their best, individuals with RAD represent the embryonic stages of an antisocial personality, at their worst they are full-blown psychopaths consumed by the search for another victim. RAD is not a rare phenomenon and is primarily preventable through early identification and by employing simple, sound parenting skills.

Book excerpt: Book of Souls picks up the action a year after the conclusion of the international sensation Library of the Dead. Will Piper’s life has been forever changed by the astonishing secret he discovered hidden at the government’s clandestine installation deep under the Nevada desert. His uneasy retirement from the FBI is interrupted when a long-missing book surfaces at an auction house in London. A group of ex-Area 51 employees recruits Will to assist them in obtaining the book and in helping them solve a mystery that will affect the fate of all mankind. As government operatives try to stop him, Will discovers the ancient missing volume has had a profound effect on history. Remarkably, a newly found puzzle sonnet by a young William Shakespeare seems to have been inspired by the book. As Will peels back the onion to solve a series of clues hidden in the poem, he finds the book has influenced not only Shakespeare but also the religious philosophy of John Calvin, the father of predestination, and the prophesies of the seer Nostradamus. When the final clue yields the ultimate secret, Will is forced to confront a truth which humanity may not be prepared to accept.

Accompanied by his new friend Magnus Muldoon, professional problem solver Matthew Corbett is in the Carolina colony, where three enslaved people have managed to flee their captors—one of them accused of killing the daughter of a plantation owner. [McCammon] nicely evokes America’s colonial past and deftly straddles the boundary between the explicable and the supernatural.” —Publishers Weekly Praise for the Matthew Corbett Novels “The Corbett novels are rich, atmospheric stories, the kind of historical mystery that makes the reader feel as though he really has stepped back in time.” —Booklist “[An] extraordinary series.” —Horrornews
