Book excerpt: The Nobel Prize winner’s catalog of his Istanbul museum is like “wandering past the illuminated windows of an arcade. . . . This book spills over with pleasure”(The New York Times). The culmination of decades of omnivorous collecting, Orhan Pamuk’s Museum of Innocence in Istanbul uses his novel of lost love, The Museum of Innocence, as a departure point to explore the city of his youth. In The Innocence of Objects, Pamuk’s catalog of this remarkable museum, he writes about things that matter deeply to him: the psychology of the collector, the proper role of the museum, the photography of old Istanbul (illustrated with Pamuk’s superb collection of haunting photographs and movie stills), and of course the customs and traditions of his beloved city. The book’s imagery is equally evocative, ranging from the ephemera of everyday life to the superb photographs of Turkish photographer Ara Güler. Combining compelling visual images and writing, The Innocence of Objects is an original work of art and literature.

Triumph of Innocence examines the challenges faced by a Nigerian child within a same-sexed boarding school in Nigeria. This intriguing, striking and strongly moral book is a beautiful testimony of how much instilling values at the foundational stages of a childs life can help him weather the storms life throws at him. Ehis in this book grows up fast in wisdom and experience, beating the odds of a corrupt society to show that innocence of heart does not consist in just fighting evil, but also remaining true to ones core values. I recommend this literary piece for all who are besieged with internal struggles between good and evil inclinations at various moments in their lives. The message of this book inspires hope, because at the end, true innocence, affirmed by a good moral foundation, always triumphs. - Rev. Fr. Oji Robert

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this spiritual biography, Patricia de Menezes offers her witness to the revelations given her by Jesus over three decades. These centre on the name Divine Innocence, which Jesus revealed to be an attribute of the Holy Trinity manifested in himself. The Holy Family of Nazareth, home of Divine Innocence, is the true home of all people, and a school for holiness, especially for those who have become children of God through baptism. We are shown how precious in the sight of God is every human person that he has created in his image and likeness - a challenge to secular society which refuses to accept the validity of this Christian teaching. One consequence of this is that children are being killed before birth on a vast scale. Jesus requests the Catholic Church to recognise the innocent victims of abortion as companion martyrs of the Holy Innocents of Bethlehem, and therefore saints in heaven. A book of vital concern to Catholics, as well as those who are open to an encouraging message from Heaven.

Book excerpt: There was never a more terrible time for Jews in Europe than from 1938 to 1945. The Nazis had overrun a great deal of the continent, bent on the domination of the world and the annihilation of an entire people. The death camps, unknown to most outside Europe, claimed more than six millions Jews during that time. Some endured -- and most have breathtaking stories of survival. Why they survived when so many perished is a matter of coincidence, luck, the will to live and the courage and sacrifice of many others. The full scope of that sacrifice will never be completely chronicled, it is just too vast. "Good-bye for Always, The Triumph of the Innocents" is the story of the youngest members of the Widerman family, who moved to Paris from Poland, only to be caught up in the horror of the Nazi occupation. In 1942, Cecile and Betty Widerman began a journey into the belly of the worst beast mankind has to offer. For two years they were literally one step ahead of death, as Nazi cruelty sought to envelop them as it had millions of others. How they survived, why they survived and who nearly gave their own lives to protect them is a story of inspiration and will that is sure to live forever.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geoffrey Chaucer has long been considered by the critics as the father of English poetry. However, this notion not only tends to forget a huge part of the history of Anglo-Saxon literature but also to ignore the specificities of Chaucer’s style. Indeed, Chaucer’s decision to write in Middle English, in a time when the hegemony of Latin and Old French was undisputed (especially at the court of Edward III and Richard II), was consistent with an intellectual movement that was trying to give back to European vernaculars the prestige necessary to a genuine cultural production, which eventually led to the emergence of romance and of the modern novel. As a result, if Chaucer cannot be thought of as the father of English poetry, he is, however, the father of English prose and one of the main artisans of what Mikhail Bakhtin called the polyphonic novel.
